Scratch 58* 3x Black
FYI, this wedge has the tour box grooves, but will not sheer covers. It has a grind that allows you to open the blade and glide through sand or grass easily without hitting thin. This wedge retails for $185+; a true weapon.

Custom grind ???
I have similar course conditions due to the Tifton 419 Bermuda fairways. My experience is you need a rounded leading edge, moderate camber and bounce with up to a mid width sole; you do not want a sharpe leading edge to dig. As an example, I had a set of Titleist 680's which were perfect, despite their narrow sole. Due to the thin fairways in the off season, you do need a compromise and a more narrow sole helps. If you intend to order custom irons, the company should be able to incorporate the necessary grind specs after you explain your course /swing particulars. Otherwise, most retail sets are designed to accommodate a variety of turf conditions and are a reasonable compromise versus the extra cost of a specialized grind. Good luck, Warren

shaft length
Given your present situation, you probably do not want radical set up / equipment changes until your season is over. You seem to have adjusted well given your handicap and scoring...good hand-eye coordination. It sounds like you need longer clubs and probably a more upright lie; both changes will influence your swing plane, arc, trajectory and timing. Ultimamtely, you will play more consistantly, everything else being equal. Proper fitting is very important, especially at your level of play. Get with a knowledgeable instructor and club fitter and begin the process. It may take some time to adjust, but your game will be more solid / consistant. Good luck, Warren

1st Titleist 905T TOUR hits the BAY
The face of the 905 series is definitely new. I have it from very reliable sources, the Titleist 905 faces are the hottest of any of the new releases from the top manufacturers. The faces are designed to launch the ball at incredible speed using technology Titleist was aware, but previously refused to market. The proverbial "gloves are off" with the 905 series technology. They may look old school, but have stealth technology within. Davis and Ernie are are doing very well with them; wasn't Davis the distance leader at the Hope? As for the ridiculous prices on ebay, I am aware of $1,700 paid for a tour 905T on another web site. Supply and demand does work, especially for some who have more $'s than sense. But hey, it's their money! I intend to order a 905S (the "E" replacement) to my specs after all the hype and inflated prices subside. Knowing and liking Titleist, it may replace my R510 Tour?!

Help: Looking for specs on 2 Fujikura shafts
The 771TA is smoother through the hitting area and feels heavy like a Pro 95, supposedly due to its butt stiffness. I have played "true" 757's and though better than the OEM (Titleist / TM) 757's, they still have a harsh feel to them. Just received my first 771TA in a R510 TP Tour, after much research. Have had a limited range session due to the weather, but true to its reputation, it felt smooth as silk. Yet, the trajectory was good for me: medium high with a penetrating flight...no balloons. It gave the response like it was waiting for me to really test it. No deflection or break down when I put my rusty, go-for-it winter swing on it. Can't wait to really break it in. Worth the extra $'s! Good luck, Warren

scratch classic blades or mp-32s
I have put my custom MP 32's for sale in favor of my Scratch Classics. The MP 32's are quality forgings as were the MP14's and Mp29's I played. The Mp 32's ballooned the ball too much for me and looked too large behind the ball, especially the lofted clubs. Yes, the Scratch's will not have the resale value of the MP 32's; I purchased the Scratch's to play, not sell. They are superior in shot making and feel for me. Yes, the 1018 steel is very soft and probably subject to change; I check my specs routinely anyway. I do like their soft feel which I prefer to the MP 32's. Either club will provide very good shot making opportunity; it really is matter of personal preference...what works for me may not be the best for you. It sure is fun trying to find the solution though!

Irons
I have come very close to going with the Nike blades; they are similar to my Scratch Classics. With Miura forgings they must be outstanding! It may be difficult to improve that set. Good luck.

Irons
I understand very well your design & appearance preferences. I have played blades for virtually all my 40 years of golf...the early blades were demanding. I am currently playing a set of Scratch Classics which have the small head, little offset, thin topline I desire. I just placed a custom set of MP32's for sale. Despite the set up of the MP32's to my specs and delofts in the PW through the 6 to avoid the balloons, they still launched too high. Also, the head size is enormous compared to my Scratch Classics; I do not like the shape of the MP32 lofted clubs...too large and with thick top lines. I am giving serious thought to Blade Golf's offer with the Tour Concept shafts and getting my blade grind and head size. I am convinced off the rack clubs may partially satisfy your desires, but custom forging and grinding via Scratch or Blade Golf is the way to go for those of us who know and demand their desired specs and are willing to pay the price.

Looking for a hybrid.
Try the 19* 503H. It's twice as easy as your two iron! I got rid of my 2 iron for it...longer, good out of light rough, good off the tee and it looks like a golf club at address!

New MR-23 model
yes I was on the range this afternoon with my friend who was a former mini tour player and now is a Precept Rep. He has a set of the Tourstage MR23 blades and said a modified blade will be marketed in the states in 2005. Instead of the "V" shaped muscle, it will have a more traditional rounding of the top of the muscle similar to the MP33. He was uncertain of the exact graphics on the back.
