  1. Ah yes. The shape and matte black finish appeal to me far more. If the Scooner had the same face, it'd be perfect.
  2. Um, what heavily milled barque?
  3. Hi guys, anyone has first hand experience with this putter? The literature online is scarce and other than just the usual specs, I'm not able to find out anything more. Basically, I'm a nouveau mallet kinda guy. It all started with the Futura, found it too light so moved to the Red-X. After a while, felt that's too light as well and now on the Golo with added weights but thought it looks too chunky. Love the looks of the Scooner Type-2; its shape and shaft joint, matte black finish, 1 simple white sight line is exactly what I would order if I were to custom a putter. With an over 500g head, I feel like I've hit the jackpot! BUT BUT BUT the resin insert is a turn-off. I like milled face. Will accept inserts of the nickel variant. But TPU? How deflatingly limp. If it feels anything like the Odyssey, yuck (know people who love and putt like the devil with it, but not for me). I need the noticeable feedback of impact, like the positive club response I get when I hit a good shot. And also, how is it balanced? So, anyone with any additional info for me would be most gratefully welcomed. ?
  4. From what I'm told, woods are not 'bendable'. I'm assuming an ute has the same construction as a wood, not an iron.

Hey thanks guys, feel like I've hijacked this thread. I'm just going to bring em all to the fitter and let him make the call.

The Fujikura MCI is a steel-graphite composite. Not sure if it could be filed down; if yes, that would be ideal since I wouldn't want to alter the original condition of my copper 302s. Otherwise, I might just stick them in some other heads.

I would love to keep the hosel in its original size and shape. But the MCIs are .370 so I'd have to ream my 302s to fit, unless there is another way. I'm asking what if I switch back to .355 in the future, is it going to cause problems?

T, no, I meant going back to .355 after reaming the clubs to .370. Potential twisty or flying heads thereafter?

Thanks for the answers guys, but just how 'destructive' is shimming? What kind of repercussion would I face in future shaft changes back to .355?
  10. Haha, that'll work too but tough if you wanna use different gear every week like me. But then you've gotta know how to smuggle stuff between bags too.
  11. Do what I do, keep 2 sets at home and the rest in the office! Oh, and buy the same color bags. ;)
  12. Hey, if you're going to ho it, at least ho it right! ;)

Whoa, good question. So this reaming would permanently alter my 302? What if I choose a .355 tipped shaft later?
  14. Not sure how forgiving we want golf clubs to be, should golfers expect the ball fly straight and long no matter how you hack at it? Seriously, I think most reputable cavity backs these days, regardless of the brand and model, can get the job done amply well. Beyond that, it's golf lessons and not club forgiveness you'd need. Personally, I like the 502 over the 302 over the 551, though I've only hit the 551 at an indoor range. I do not think the 502s are as lacking in feel as I've often read. The more I play with it, the more I am enjoying it; I can clearly feel the satisfaction of a good shot off it, more than I can say of the 302, which is just way too soft for me -- I hope the MCI would spark a love affair between us. I also do not think the 302 is necessarily 'easier' to shape shots with, the 502 happen to be as workable when you get used to it. In the end, I do not think swapping the 502 for 551 or 501 to be a step forward. The OP's comparisons simply have too many variables like shaft, lie, etc, any of which could change the game completely, for anyone to make a pinpoint recommendation. If it was me, I'd just go to a good fitter and get the shaft, lie, loft all fixed on the 502. That is, if it was me. :)

    Good to know. :)

Hey thanks, wmclarenf1. There's hardly any info on the MCI online. Other than a one-page marketing piece in English and another supermarket-ad one in Japanese, I've not seen anything else.

Yup. Can't wait till my shafts arrive. Will be mounting them on my 302s, which brings me to the next question -- is the .370 tip going to be a problem?
  18. Thank you all for looking and interests. The balls are sold and the listing is closed. I hope that's how it's done haha!
  19. Pete, consider the deal done -- the 4 boxes are yours. You can pay me on collection, SGD preferred please. Let me know when you're in town and I'll either drop them off personally or have someone do that for me. I've drop you a message for my contact details.
  20. Hi Pete, I don't mind holding them for you as long as you can confirm you will surely be taking them. Let me know. :)
  21. Someone asked for photos of the Super Newing Brill; they're the latest version -- you can tell by the putting line. So, here it is and I forgot to mention that these balls are retailed at well over $100 a box. The Premium Brills cost even more.
  22. Got a bit carried away at a golf sale and bought a bunch of golf balls. Then realize these are not suitable for me. So here they are; if you like these balls, you'll like the prices. I have 4 boxes left and asking USD50 a box of 12. Shipping will be extra if you are not in Singapore. ps. I also have a few boxes of the Super Newing Brill and LS330 if anyone if interested. Those are at USD42 a box of 12. Oh, I am open to trades too. I'm not exactly hunting down anything but I'll listen to anything you have to offer.
  23. Great read! Other than the magic samurai oil, Gold's never up there in my list of consideration of anything. This could well change now. Nice job, T.

The Iomic 1.8 Sticky was my all-time favorite grip for a long time, by far, over everything else. Just received my order of Gripmaster JD Kangaroos; I knew I would like it -- soft, tacky and light (only 40g). Based on feel, they can't be beat, most amazing feel in the hands. I'm just unsure how they would hold up and play, over time, in the hot and humid weather. I've fitted one on the driver and, thought only after 1 round, I can say it's quite promising.

Played a round with the F4 this morning. Compared to my usual balls, I'd have to say the F4 is, at best, the same length as the ProV1x 2011 or later (don't think there's any upgrade since 2011) and shorter than the Super Newings. Last check, my swing speed is around 95mph. Ball launches higher for me, for sure. Overall distance off the driver, 3W and long irons, are all about the same as the V1x, sometimes maybe a bit shorter. Off the short irons and wedges, I'm losing about a half club distance. I'm also not getting noticeably more spin than the V1x, but needless to say, definitely more than the Newings. The feel is about the same as the V1x, maybe just a tad softer. Same good feel off the putter but on a few holes, the ball rolled way past the hole, probably my fault but I don't usually roll it past so much. Definitely more durable than the V1x and Newings; no cuts, scrapes or blemishes after bashing it about for a good 10 holes or so. Though it's just 1 round, I don't think the F4 would replace the V1x as my ball of choice. It's probably 3rd or 4th on my list after the V1x and Super Newing Brill or LS330, which is probably the longest ball for me to date that I can stand to play. That said, I'd happily play the F4 though; maybe I'll like it more after a few more rounds.
