  1. Wow, Paul; I thought you'd be trying them with the SteelFibers. I can vouch for condition and finish on these - very nice.
  2. Bestgrips (leather) microperf, while maybe not spongy, are pretty soft to me. They also do what they call a pro taper, which amounts to a thicker bottom hand. You can get a sample pack of three different grips for the price of two ($32 or so). Liking them on FB gets you a discount too, I believe.
  3. Late to the thread, but a few things came to mind reading this: - Cool Clubs is first rate. I've been to their CT location and found them great. There was definitely no jacking of distances in my case. I still don't think there is a perfect fitting process, but it's hard to find better. - I played a high level of youth baseball before I gave up the game. I never possessed the explosiveness discussed here (was more of a defensive player - wiry middle infielder), but I witnessed it. One kid on my team grew early and was explosive. He was jacking 400ft bombs at age 11, and I still have mental images of a 450ft shot he hit into Iowa corn fields when we were 15 (stood out to us boys from Brooklyn). When I was in that age range, I'd be lucky to hit one 310ft. Night and day difference. - Reading Rob's story reminds me how unlikely it is to become a professional athlete. The same team referenced above had at least four guys I would have wagered at the time would go pro; none of them did. One guy from my high school team who had no full-on stand out abilities did and had a reasonably long major league career. There are just so many factors that have to come together; so many are out of control of the athlete. - We're all jealous. The type of explosiveness you possess, rare as it is, does exist. Harness it and you'll be awesome.
  4. Pretty sure there's an exact one on wrx right now. If the seller won't ship to Australia, have it sent to me and I'll send it.
  5. Recent range sessions suggest the Yururi blades aren't leaving soon, but let's go ahead and try to move this Akira 3W. BTW, the picture makes it look very closed. I'll have to try to get a different pic because it's not so aggressive.
  6. Some price updates. Also, whoever recently mentioned about liking soft, center-shafted mallets, that Proto is for you! Was that MBBG?
  7. Not much to say here. Great shoes as you know, but went with something else. New in box, with tags. Size 42. $100 OBO shipped and PP to US. Will ship internationally.
  8. Hey, guys. Still deciding whether or not to part with my Yururi Flat Back (raw) blades, but for now, here's a nice Akira 3W I picked up a while back and never got around to using (still hitting my old Titleist 975F really well). This one still has plastic on the grip. I think it sets up quite a bit like a Royal Collection, and it has a nice versatile sole. Specs: 15* Akira, made in Japan, 67 gm shaft X flex, but feels like S to me. 42.75" It was $300 new. Let's go with $175 OBO $125 shipped and PP to US. Will do international shipping. Also will do head only or pull the shaft for anybody Down Under.
  9. Steve, you should try Best Grips. They are a little thicker, especially under the bottom hand. I think they call it "pro taper" or something because a lot of pros build up the bottom hand. I believe a sample pack (regular, microperf, and pigskin) is $32. It's like getting one grip free, and it's a great way to try out their offering.
  10. I also like Best Grips...bestgrips.com...leather and a whole lot cheaper than Gripmaster for the most part. My favorites are the microperf, but the pigskin are pretty nice, too.
  11. Seriously...driving me crazy, too!...so, about those Maru blades, Stew...
  12. Thanks, guys. I totally agree on the 3 most important elements comment. Growing up, I always loved the feel of Hogans more than anything else - from waggle to contact. Only recently did I learn that they used lighter weight shafts (115gm). After lots of testing lately, I've learned my sweet spot is 110-115gm shafts.
  13. A few years ago, I started playing ice hockey again after about 20 years off. Naturally, I needed new equipment (especially since things that were once foam were now dust), and the gear head in me was excited. I tried tons of stuff, looking for just the right gear. Generally, I focused on one piece of equipment at a time - skates, elbow pads, shoulder pads, gloves, etc. - until I found just what I wanted. My filter was, I wanted it to function effectively and I didn't want to be conscious of it on the ice. As time went by, I got my bag set - everything just how I wanted it. A funny thing happened, though. I started tinkering a bit - a different curve or flex for my stick, another color of the same gloves, multiple pairs of the just-right elbow pads. At the time, I wondered why I needed different sticks, more than one color pair of gloves, etc. The reality was, I didn't REALLY need them, I just kind of wanted them. Finally, in full-on justification mode, I realized, if my wife can have an over-price pair of shoes and pocket book for every mood and outfit, why shouldn't I have different sticks and gloves for how I'm feeling on a particular day. Well, let's just say the same thing is happening with golf now that I've picked the game up again. I've always been a research-to-death-to-find-the-perfect-thing kind of guy. But, there's definitely a freedom in coming to grips with experimentation. Do I need a set of Hogan Apex, MacGregor VIPs, Kenneth Smith Royal Signets, Yonex Ezone, Yururi Flat Back, Miura 5002, and maybe a forth coming set of Baby Blades. No, but on those days I'm feeling a little raw, strong, refined, traditional, or masochistic, I'll be glad I have them. I can't quite see myself with your collection, Stew, but I'm starting to understand the method to your madness just a bit. And, my golf closet might just get its own revolving door. I don't look good in red pumps, so I gotta do something. ;)
  14. Man, have I been getting an education lately! I picked up a set of Yururi Flat Back irons, got them shafted in "my shaft" and took them to the range last week. I was having the hardest time hitting them; just couldn't find the center (even found the hosel) and was starting to wonder about all the hype. I was seriously ready to put them up for sale after a small number of swings. I knew they were upright a bit, but I didn't realize that I was setting up too close to the ball as a result. Finally, I moved the ball out nea the toe and took a swing. Ahh, that's what people are talking about with these clubs! So, I had them all bent a couple degrees flat (about 60* 6 iron) and took them to the range today. Everything was right on the sweet spot - shredded ball cover right in the middle...lovely! So, not only did I find that these sticks are totally the real deal, but a great lesson about the significance of lie angle was emphasized. I shutter to think how many times I fiddled with my swing in my youth simply because my lie angles were off. Now that I'm back playing, I'm learning lots of things I wish I new way back when!
  15. Agree with the above posts...love mine
  16. What does that mean? Is there another way to sell other than BST that I'm not aware of? Please excuse my ignorance.
  17. I have both the Yonex and Yururi, and, perhaps I need time to decide, but I'm having a hard time choosing one over the other right now. I just find them different, but both immensely satisfying. The Yonex a little on the clicky side, similar to Miura.
