I think Warren is correct that what has happened has happened. It is very unfortunate that the shaft broke and Robb40 you have lost your investment and are now hesitant to go with a shaft that has worked well for you. Please don't let this sour you on a combo that works well for you.

Any graphite shaft that breaks from pulling of the shaft will result in a break along the ferrule and usually in a horizontal direction. Splintering of graphite shafts most often occurs when the shaft is tipped improperly. In this case it does not appear the shaft was tipped. The only conclusion is that damage occurred during transport. If the shaft was weighted down at the site of the splinter the shaft would then break during the next time pressure was applied to the site.

I recently got the S-Yard XV fairway wood and the older Romaro UT 18. I have about 2 rounds with each so far and find them to be good alternates to my Egg. I was also looking to get on in two on most Par 5's. The Romaro is excellent off the ground forgiving and long. The Syard is great when hitting off a tee. I have had trouble getting the XV up from a grassy lie. So far neither is perfect but I will continue to work them out until one is the clear winner. Will post again after the 4 rounds i have coming up this week.

The stock shaft is again a Rombax from Fujikura specially made for the XV series. The Rombax FW is 3.2* of torque and around 65g with a mid/high kick. Overall clubweight with the Rombax is very healthy at over 335g. Which creates stabilty.

I believe this is what makes these boards so great. You can get a lot of info before making a decision for your particular game. If the review is done well you can translate the reviewers observations and find what works for you.

The XV will be in my bag for the near future. After 1 round and 2 range sessions I am very pleased. The T.388 is my current gamer and I feel the XV fairway will complement it very nicely. Hopefully my impressions about this club will continue as they are now.

Received the XV Fairway wood this week. Was ordered with stock stiff shaft. Used it today for a quick 18. My first few drives off the tee were dead straight stingers. The ball had a decent amount of roll. I continued to use the XV off the tee even on the par 5's. I was getting between 220 to 245 yards from the tee. Every drive found the middle of the fairway. So far so good.

True abou the roll on high speeds. But for every other situation the car is a monster, lots of power and great tech to give a high end feel.

DW40 also will work out the rust. Use a toothbrush and work it into the areas that are rusted. Be careful not to cover the entire club as the oil does leave a slight residue and can effect play.
