MOI Matching!!! many of you are missing out on this technology
That is not true. If you cut your long irons to match the 7 iron without any weights you will have no loss in distance. In fact you probably will get more distance as you will find the center of the face more often. I've built enough sets to know. If you prefer the half inch increments yes you will need to alter the headweight or start by building your long irons to a certain moi and add weight as you go down to shorter irons. That is why I said from the beginning that the set will be approximately 3/8 increments instead of 1/2 inch. This is the easiest way to go about it.

To me, thats a plus to have shorter long irons. Hitting a 4 iron feels like a 6 or 5 and goes just as long and more accurate :)

SOLD Thankx TSG
Nob, you think this will be good for me? Every shaft from you has been good from you. CB 50 and the AAA. I'm messaging with Robbie and it seems to fit the bill.

MOI Matching!!! many of you are missing out on this technology
Overdose - there are several different ways to build an MOI set. One of the factors is if you are going to use new uncut shafts or reuse the existing shafts. I'm going to assume that you want to reuse your shafts. If so, here is my recommendation. Its likely that the MOI of your 7, 8, and 9 are similar. If you like them just the same, just get the average and that will be your target MOI. For the shorter clubs, you will need to add headweight. Unfortunately you will have to use lead tape here to get an exact MOI number for the shorter clubs. If you had new shafts, you can cut them a bit longer to achieve the MOI match. You can use lead weights, but its really hard to be precise since the shafts are precut. I highly recommend that you just use lead tape instead. For the longer clubs, you will need to pull the grips and cut them to match the correct MOI. My recommendation is to cut little by little so you get a sense of how much the MOI drops based on the cut you make. so try to cut 1/16 or 1/8 at a time until you get a good feel for it. I highly recommend an elec saw not the manual pipe cutters. The manual pipe cutters are not that precise and can ruin the process. Measuring the MOI after each cut can be done in two ways. You can cut a used grip, put it back on (without tape) and check MOI since grip tape hardly changes the MOI (only sw). Or what I like to do is measure the difference between having a grip and not. In my case I can measure the MOI without the grip and know that adding a grip would add 35 MOI to my club. So to summarize, in the end your longer clubs will no longer be .5 inch increments. They will be more likely 3/8 increments (approximately)

Jbeam Blackout or ZY11 for 7D shaft combo????!!!
Over the past two months, Ive been testing out the two heads to compare (Jbeam blackout, ZY11) with various shafts such as the AAA, Crazy CB 50 Black, TRPX X-Line, TRPX Aura, Kuro Kage XT, Kuro Kage Proto Tini. For sure, the AAA is a winner and a close second is the Crazy CB 50 Black. Boths shafts are super stable and tip stiff that brings a good trajectory. The best part is the piercing launch of the ball which is far stronger than any other shafts that I have tried. (P.S. - sorry this is a long response, but I thought it would benefit members that are in the market for Jbeam heads.) Back to the main topic of heads. I've been playing the blackout for several months now and man I always felt that this head was the ticket from the first swing I took with it. It sounds great, looks perfect, amazing details in the finish, face is super hot, tons of roll, and best of all low launch! I'm playing a 9 degree but to me it launches more like a 7 or 8 degree made by another manufacturer. I just could not imagine another head that could kick this driver out of the bag. After the Zy11 release, I started to get interested as I saw some members here including Chris move from the blackout to the Zy11. The things that concerned me was feel, sound, and launch. I play a 9 degree in the blackout but I got a Zy11 in 9.5. I shafted the head with the CB50 black which was my second fav shaft and honestly I wasnt so crazy about it the first day I tried it. Performance was very similar but the sound and feel was so muted compared to the blackout. I didnt mind so much the feel as much as the sound. Surprisingly, the launch I found to be very close to the blackout. I was worried that it might be too high, but I could not tell much of a difference. The one thing that I really liked about the Zy11 was the larger head size. I personally think the blackout looks better overall, but the ZY11 gave me a bit more confidence and it just looked better to my eye at address. So after my first day of trying the ZY11, I decided to stick with the blackout because of the sound and the zy11 has been sitting idle in my house for over a month. For over a month, I've been driving the ball crazy good (relative to before ) with the blackout 9 degree AAA setup. However, I ended up buying a backup blackout in 10 degree and got curious to try it. So I pulled the AAA and put in the 10 degree head just to experiment. One day of playing the setup proved that 10 degrees was too much loft for my swing. Just as I was about to put it back into my 9 degree, I thought of the ZY11. I felt that I never gave it a real chance by playing it for a single day. I wasn't about to shaft it with the AAA quite yet, so I took out the ZY11 with the CB50 shaft and it performed really nice. The biggest factor to me was that the size gave me far more confidence. There was zero hesitancy to drive the ball hard! I do also think that the head is a tad more forgiving. I still preffered the sound of the blackout but confidence alone was enough to say lets install the AAA on it! Over the weekend, I tested out the new ZY11 AAA combo on the range to configure the head weight setup (move COG around and overall weight) and the MOI that I like to play in my driver. Once I found my optimal setup, took it to the course next day praying this would be the last setup of the year! haha (actually my gf is the one praying) she thinks I'm crazy trying all these different things every week. Man from the very first tee I was in love. Boy did I prove her that it was all worth the experimenting. She commented that sometimes she couldnt even hear me hit the ball when she was a little distant from the tee box and then she would all of a sudden see a piercing drive. She called it the silent assasin. Overall distance on my pured shots were relatively the same distance as before with the blackout. No real distance gains there but maybe a little on the mis**ts. However, the big difference was that I hit all but one fairway and I believe its because the confidence it brings to me when I look down at address. I also started to prefer the feel and sound of the ZY11, as its really growing on me. I'm hoping that my round was not just a fluke of good driving and that it will carry me through the rest of the year until I get my 7d. :) Cheers

MOI Matching!!! many of you are missing out on this technology
Forgot to mention: Yes, in general 3/8 increments will be closer in MOI than 1/2 increments. Doesn't necessarily translate to matching but closer.

MOI Matching!!! many of you are missing out on this technology
neova - unfortunately cutting by 3/8" is only a rough estimate. In other words, its a starting point for me to do the fine tuning. There's a lot of variables such as the weight of the head and shaft so a static cut of 3/8 would not work universally. Only proper way is to use the audior machine. Yes, a good approach is to build off the your favorite 8 iron. If you have access to a machine, a simple test to see if you like MOI matching is to add lead tape to the shorter irons, in your case 9 and PW to match the 8. If you like those changes, its very likely you will do well with MOI. You would then need to cut the rest of your irons (7 iron and longer) to match the MOI of the 8.

Cfor - I respect your opinion, but never did I say that playing MOI sets will turn a bad swing into a good one. My opinion and experience with playing MOI sets has proven to me that its easier to play consistently throughout the entire set of clubs. Just as playing a GI iron is far more forgiving than playing a blade. Playing a GI does not make a bad swing into a good one, but it does improve the result. SW matched sets require a litte bit more energy as the club gets longer. This is not the case with MOI sets. I also believe that Dynamic Gold AMT shafts are going in this direction as matching the shafts in SW creates a set that is far closer in MOI than a standard weighted set of shafts. Chris - I agree with all your points. You are relying on the club maker and there's a lot of guys who don't know crap out there. That is why I ended up learning and doing all the work myself, so I can build to the detail I desire. Things such as loft and lie are done terribly by most shops and do not meet my standards. With your experience buidling MOI, I agree its very sensitive and time consuming. I also understand your comment about building too heavy as I have gone through that before and wasted a day's work building a set that was too high in MOI for my liking. However, once I found an optimal MOI for my swing currently, it is working really well for me. May not work for everyone, but there's a lot of feedback out there that MOI is working for many that have tried :) Cheers

MOI Matching!!! many of you are missing out on this technology
Nobu - no problem. Yea its definitley worth getting into if you like to work on your clubs. The moi machine is not that expensive. Its really more about investing your time as it takes a quite a bit of effort. You'll also probably like to invest into a good loft and lie machine if you dont have one already. Just remember that MOI matching is very sensitive and every time I cut a shaft by 1/8" MOI is impacted by 20 points. So cut little by little :)

MOI Matching!!! many of you are missing out on this technology
Unfortunately not. MOI matching a set is a custom and labor intensive job. In my opinion, the only sets that are closest in MOI are the new DG AMT shafts. Each shaft is different in weight by four grams. If you put the clubs on a moi machine, the set will be closer in MOI than other sets.

MOI Matching!!! many of you are missing out on this technology
Hey Nob! I'm loving the AAA, I'm thinking of trying it in the lower weights 60x or 60s just to compare. Tom Wishon is sort of the pioneer in this space. His website has a lot of good information: http://wishongolf.com/clubmakers/matching-golf-clubs-by-moi/ http://www.wishongolf.com/downloads/MOI101.pdf If you're really interested, send me an email and I can recommend how you can do a MOI build. I like the method of building based on your favorite club's MOI :) You take your entire set, pick out your favorite club or even look at two favorite. I can bet that your two favorite irons in the set or probably the same or very close. Then you match the rest of the set to that MOI. There's a few different ways to go about that. Rebuilding the entire set from scratch (new shafts) or reuse the existing shafts, but lengths become an issue and there are some trade offs.

MOI Matching!!! many of you are missing out on this technology
I think impact is from both, the shaft and moi. The epon set's moi could be too low, likely in the shorter irons. As the clubs get longer the moi gets up, so you may not be going as left in the longer. Higher moi helpls a lot with the hook as you need more energy to turn the club.
