RomaRo i-Brid Chapter 2 Review
TourSpecGolfer replied to TourSpecGolfer's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
Yes I'm gaming this as my #3+ it's longer than a #3 iron for me. -
It all started with a used and abused Miura Giken Japan putter... One of our top clients sent in 9 or so used putters a few beaten up and asked us to mod them to our vision one per month or so, with only 3 putters remaining and 6 completed already in the clients hands I decided to go all out and produce something "special" for him. This client is extremely discerning he wants things a particular way and with all the options we could pull from and a no concern for price it could have been very easy to produce a tacky overly optioned putter that he wouldn't of liked. Good news is he and I share similar tastes, first it must be a heavy head, second it's gotta have class with an understated approach to it's design. I started with a drawing then a design and sent it to the master "Masayuki Sasaya-san" of Gold's Factory who worked on this putter personally as if it was a M.A.C series and while this putter is still in the air on it's way to the clients hands I still feel nervous that there is something he won't like about it as it is my design and vision completed by Gold's Factory to appeal to another persons preference, I guess those nerves are a good thing. Looks pretty simple doesn't it? Nothing too wild? Let me tell you this one was not a simple build and it cost a pretty penny in modifications alone. Let's talk mods, below is a picture of how the putter arrived to Gold's Factory, it was dinged up, rusting in some areas and worn in a good amount, somehow I needed to figure out a way to add some heft to it while still keeping it's class, we went for overlap tungsten weighting on the sole with a nice touch of orichulum 12mm tungsten for the inner weight, subtle upgrade but I felt it added a little something, we needed 2 weights because a lot of weight was to be removed to get rid of the writing on the sole, re mill the face, engrave logos and the removal of a Miura Giken badge located in the back cavity not to mention cutting the neck down a serious amount. When the specs were checked before the work started this thing was warped the angle of the extra long neck, the loft, the specs were off and not from use but that's how it was manufactured. Each logo was made special for the client, Craig's Factory is a play on the Gold's Factory logo which I thought added a nice touch, on the heel of the face another play on what Scotty and GF use and then out on the toe a custom made reverse engraved CC logo for his initials. Reverse engraved.. another subtle upgrade that add's an understated enhancement where instead of cutting out the dual C's we cut around it so they would have the lighter custom PZ milling engraving on it. Next up is where a good portion of the money was spent, in a "Japanese Kyoto made Damascus insert" and you may not notice but it was hand polished first then milled very lightly then hand polished again. All I can say is wow ... Now the specs are spot on but I would have liked to have made it reach 370 grams yet with all the removal of metal and starting with an already light weight head 360 was a big victory, this putter is made of mild carbon so it will feel soft the milling adds to that but really it's the Damascus insert that will give it the most unique feel and the light milling on top of it only add's to it. A copper under layer was added on top of a Japanese NiCR Satin Plated finish and the specs are now tuned to a 70* lie angle 3* loft measured from the sole, Face Angle: 6°open / Shaft Angle: 2°open. Those specs may mean little to some because manufactures measure in a more generic fashion so these numbers may seem odd but they are perfectly optimal like all Gold's Factory putters.

RomaRo 2014 Chapter 2 Driving Iron
TourSpecGolfer replied to TourSpecGolfer's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
Sorry for the delay, finally got the review up: http://forum.tourspecgolf.com/topic/37699-romaro-i-brid-chapter-2-review/ Next stop is over to RLL for his take on it :) -
Back in February of 2014 at the Japan Golf Fair RomaRo showed off it's new iBrid Chapter 2 driving iron, many months went by with no official release and customers began asking when it will become available. Good news is it's now at TSG head only or with custom shaft options. Better yet I've fallen heads over heels with it's performance, looks, and feel. let's dive a little deeper into the good stuff. Not many driving irons have a forged cup face, for those not familiar with a cup face it's basically a higher rebounding softer feeling design where the face is not welded at the edges but more cup like wrapping around the edges before it's welded making the face more flexible. It's evident that the Chapter 2 iBrid has a forged cup face because it feels so much better than any other driving iron I've tried it's a more springy more spongy launch you will notice immediately at impact. RomaRo Sports tell us they have worked long and hard at getting this specialty club right, usually I would consider this a driving iron because of it's size but but with it's cupped face and it's rounded almost mini hybrid design it's really the better parts of both. I've had this in play for 2 rounds and a couple of short range sessions and put it against the Epon AF-903 and the Honma TW-U both I consider true driving irons and not only was the Chapter 2 iBrid longer, better feeling, higher launching and easier to hit it also inspires a lot more confidence when looking down at it. Epon and Honma were both slightly more accurate but also harder to hit and get into the air, their faces did not have the forgiveness the Chapter 2 had similar to the difference between hitting a long iron vs a hybrid. Comparing it to my Modart MA01H hybrid which is my favorite hybrid of all time the Chapter 2 get's closer to meeting it's match and in an up and up battle it's too close to call, the MA01H is what I consider a feel/workable/accuracy gifted hybrid while the Chapter 2 iBrid by RomaRo had a slightly lower launch, didn't get up in the air quite as easy but it also did better from the rough yet not the bunker. So really both have their purposes and fit a particular need. Back to trajectory I'm loving the ATTAS EZ/HY shaft that is a standard option .370 tip 75g in stiff flex, it's designed to bring control and a stable feel, I'm glad I chose this over the NS950 steel I usually choose for hybrids but I'm itching to try the new TRPX UT shaft or my go to Crazy Black UT.

pics can be deceiving at times, 5005 is slightly shorter heel to toe with a touch less offset.

that new bike is dangerous! but yes I've been following it. We have a member here who has a one of a kind 1199 ducatti R modded by moto rapido which is extremely rare and special. -
RomaRo 2014 Chapter 2 Driving Iron
TourSpecGolfer replied to TourSpecGolfer's topic in Japanese Golf Clubs
Yes pardon the delay, had round 2 with this thing, outstanding! will be posting tomorrow in the blog and updating with a thread in the forum :) -
They are made at the same place Endo Thailand but there is a lot of word play going on with the term "Made in Japan", that could mean finished, assembled, or even paint fill. The difference for Srixon gear is release date is earlier in Japan and the shaft options better in some cases.

+1 this is what my first thought was.
-
Ryoma is sold out of fairway wood heads, or shall i say phased out. Jan-march 2015 expect something new, more based on the UT than the D1 series FW's.
-
You won't notice much with the thin face, the key attribute is head weight and with the recommended shaft total weight/balance so in other words its pretty much the same as any 460HX just lighter and as RS said helps swing the club faster. Like the Quelot Ariel.
-
Yup 6* on ute 3* on the FW, it's in the design I tell ya because I'm not one who sould be playing 3 or 6* open nor are some of our customers who have these and are love them rounding out their sets on Nabla RS woods because they hit these well. Something must counteract the effects of the open face but this is PRGR,.. we have seen this before 7.5* driver that plays like a 9.5-10 extremely stable.
-
Actually let me edit my comments a bit as RomaRo has let me know it's actually conforming but shaved to the edge of conformity, limited edition for example only 50pcs will be made this month but other than that it's just a lighter head. the 460HX was always a good head a touch longer than thte 455LX but not nearly as straight with low spin.

Excellent Excellent Sticks these arre.. "PB"

I will be posting the CB version sometime this week, that is more like the 2012/2013 CB. -
Yamaha 2015 RMX Tour Model PB Forged Irons Every year Yamaha makes some slick looking irons under the "Tour Model" moniker and this year is no different, in the past Yamaha has released an MB and CB, this year it's two different CB's one with a thin undercut cavity and pocket while the other is 1 piece forged, the reason why their is no MB this year is because none of Yamaha's JPGA tour players put an MB in the bag and these "Tour Model" irons are exactly that, iron collaborations with their tour pros based on their needs and wants then Yamaha produces extras and offers them to the public in limited amounts. Forged of S20C by Endo like previous versions these are precision instruments and while most of our clients will opt for the thinner more compact CB version in about 95%+ of those cases they really should have gone with the PB which is what we have here, btw PB = Pocket Blade and it's really a thin undercut to keep with feel. I've got the chance to give these a whack with some good quality balls. Here is a close up shot of the undercut, so usually an undercut cavity has a more "tinky" high pitch tone at impact but do keep in mind this is still a 1 piece forged head made of S20 so it's just the slightest bit of tink compared to it's CB counterpart. Feel is what I considered softer with just a touch of hollow and the feedback was actually excellent considering it's design and while I enjoy a 1 piece head there is something different about this that I actually more than expected and a lot more than other undercut cavity backs. I hit this side by side with the CB and it's more forgiving for sure with less feedback, so if you are in it for the feedback go for the CB but I'm pretty sure unless you require to work the ball frequently this is the better choice for your score and it's only slightly bigger so your friends won't laugh. The image above shows just how think that undercut is and it also highlights just how deep that cavity structure was designed and gets deeper toward the center of the club face which I'm certain only helped in the feel department. This year the PB actually has less offset and a thinner overall profile than last years more meaty tour model CB, forgiveness is about equal as well except in the size of the face, I was still able to work this PB with ease, my test shot is a low draw out of the rough as it's what I need when I leak balls right and under tree's so I know this shot well and know what many irons do and this is a very workable iron and considering the forgiveness it packs hard to beat. Now for distance it's only a hair longer than it's smaller CB brother, I don't think that's what you get these for, you get it for forgiveness combined with compactness then after feedback and workability, It's got a hex pattern on the face to help with spin and dew or wetness and while it's not the mini version I still think this is what a single digit to pro should be using, just because it's got an undercut do not think a high to mid capper would have an ideal time with these, when they mean Tour I get it. Compared to the ONOFF KURO which doesn't even have an undercut the ONOFF is for sure more forgiving and soft but that segment isn't all too critical on feedback so by design Yamaha built these a bit firmer. The hex is light and can't be seen from all angles, subtle to say the least but the shape is sexy no doubt, can't think of a way to better it, of course if it were a blade a higher sharper toe would be ideal but this fits just right for what it is. Ah yes and big deal I suggest the smaller version CB players use the #3 and #4 in PB, big help and you will notice the difference in forgiveness between the two by doing this. It's overall short heel to toe, got some meat and subtle relief on both the leading and trailing edge, Yamaha did a very good job in keeping the mass concentrated rather than spreading it out, offset is perfect if you got a problem with the amount you got a problem with the eyes or ego as decreasing it would seriously affect the performance of this club. I've got less words to say now, because that pretty much sums it up, compact and designed for the better player, undercut adds a touch of rebound and forgiveness launchyness off the face, the setup, the setup, just all around near perfect for a pro to 10hcp or excellent strikers of the ball. Good stuff

PRGR just always charts their own path imo, The open face allows player to after it with less fear of hooking or pulling the ball left. It's very common on UT's to require open but FW's not as much as even players woods are square. Hit them also have clients who are not strong players with a slice issue hit this FW smooth and aggressively and we can only see the spec helps, now is that in combo with something else they designed into this head to counter it? maybe.
-
It's kinda sorta new in a specs way but not from a new design stand point. Same head as the 460HX just lighter weight combined with slightly different specs and a 40g range shaft. Will have it in the store soon but guys don't ever wait for items to hit the store we can get almost everything at anytime. Head only 579 + shipping Shafted with the new Acro Fiber shaft + 500 more!!
-
Yup, It's a lighter head weight, longer length and new lighter shaft, lofts rounded down to 9* and 10* and it's non conforming like the gold. Many brands are doing something similar after Geotech had great success with the Quelot Ariel with Fujikura Air shaft.
-
Softer and more forgiving with less feedback. The Yamaha CB's are more pure with more feedback and not as rounded in shape.

Yamaha 2015 RMX Tour Model Limited Driver Pics

Ok Yamahas going to MP and new iBrid going to RLL tomorrow! -
so haven't these yet, but in hand the woods "TT prototype" look excellent the face depth isn't so deep not is it shallow so a little taller than say RC woods and head volumes are compact 160cc on the 3 wood. They TT proto UT looks very similar to Romaro Type-R. Overall I'm more impressed by their woods than irons or wedges.
