Separate topic on the same equipment: I am using a TaylorMade Burner 22deg Rescue but found it a bit to heavy. Preferring irons, I am thinking of the 901 utility. What would be the lightest shaft you could fit? Believe it or not I can hit my 3-iron better than my rescue club.
  2. I have been wondering if anyone compared the three sets of irons. I liked the 701 it has a better feel than the 702. The 703 is yet to be launched in Indonesia.
  3. Only Japanese brands have the top-end models like this: Maruman: Majesty line Mizuno: Monarch line Honma: the 5-star line Kasco: don't remember, but they have and many others. The prices are beyond this world and some senior wealthy people I met swore by them.
  4. Hi hbui Have you installed the shaft you wanted? My swing speed is about the same as yours. Please keep us updated.
  5. I just bought an x-wedge by TourStage as well, 60 deg loft, 8 deg bounce. There is a chain of Japanese owned golf shops. They are at PGA driving range, above Papaya supermarket at Blok M, on Radio Dalam and inside the MidPlaza office building. Right now they have a sale and the prices beat those Tourspecgolf ... I paid US$108 equivalent. Your quote US$159 after discount. I think Jakarta has the best prices in golf equipment.

I tried these on a range once and am very impressed. The description is correct, not a player CB but more challenging than GI ones. Something for high handicappers who want to grow into. In fact it is in my short list of favourites. Impressive distance for a steel shaft with the expected accuracy from it. The NS Pro V90 is constant weighted at exactly 90 grams. I haven't hit it but surely should feel more consistent.
  7. It probably is but what's your comment supposed to mean? We are happy discussing current findings on an old topic ..

    Anyone tried the Yonex line?
  9. It's the same as asking what is the best driver out there. The best should be the most fitting! Today's Golfer tested 48 balls from premium to budget. A very interesting read. Balls are tested by a pro, a high and a medium handicappers. Short game spins as well as long drive ones are measured. Over 4000rpm is considered good for short games around the green and just over 2000 rpm for long drives are preferred. Yet better is an article about ball fitting. There are four players who were analyzed to see whether the balls they are using match their playing characteristics. A high handicapper was told to switch out of the Pro V1 because it creates higher spin then necessary so his slices were exaggerated. A skilled golfer was recommended to change to Pro V1x from V1 to reduce the spin both on the long drive as well as the short games. Another test in blindfolded feel test on balls. Use putter without inserts and strike the ball blindfolded. Which has the best feel? Also cover the ears with earphones so the sound will not influence the feel. I learned something new.
  10. Thanks Richmond. I'll take note of your advice when talking to the club fitter. Another approach is that I would custom order direct from the manufacturer with my requirements. I'd be surprised if they don't take this issue into consideration when fitting the shafts.
  11. Maruman Exim Nano? Yeah, I got one. Pretty long for a slow swinger.
  12. Well don't despair, my friend. What I like seems also to be either fattening, sinful or illegal
  13. Sorry for my ignorance but what are the advantages of non-constant weighting? I recently found that the GS-75 is a bit sportier and more challenging than the NS Pro's. I think I should go with the True Temper, but now need to compare the Miura and the Mizuno. The Miura is crispier but the Mizuno is more buttery and weightier. The Mizuno is cheaper though
  14. I am thinking of a Miura CB-301 set or Mizuno MP-57 to be equipped with either the GS-75 or the 750GH. Anyone has experience with the above combinations? I am a slow swinger with high handicap but do not like graphite shaft and prefer the consistency of steel shaft.
  15. Which of the Miura Giken's line is most suitable for high-handicapper? Presumably the Passing Point?
  16. Definitely a useful reading. Thank you for translating it. It helps me narrow down my choices when I need a new conforming driver. I am surprised Beres was eliminated that early. Honma previously quite good at distances. Competition had caught up. What is Yamaha's stock shaft by the way?
  17. To make the test more robust statistically, the sample size should be at least 30. So 10 shots per driver did not suffice. The results are to me still within tight statistical tolerance so in fact we can conclude there is not much too choose between say the top 8. Say 2 yards difference for 270 yards average is negligible. But again this list does not take into account different swing styles of the testers.
  18. I notice that TSG no longer carries Miura line but Miura Giken. Is there any difference? Or is it like Honma that Honma Beres line is no longer designed by Hiro Honma?

What a putter! I know this is not Japanese but it the best putter I have tested. Quite sold really but at more than $350 equivalent in Indonesia: rather steep. Nice balance, nice feel, quality metal --- I holed in all on the test green from 3-10 feet. Definitely on the short list.
  20. How did you find the MG801? Not as good as the EPON that you sold them? Please shed us some light..
  21. I wonder what would be the recommended make for an irons set to have at most 380 grams at most for #7 iron but swing weight C9/D0. This is the spec of my current graphite set but I'd like to have another set of similar characteristics but with steel shafts. Could I custom order through TSG? Thanks.
  22. Yes, I think it's wise to leave a Honma clubs with their stock shafts. Unlike other makes they do take a good deal of care balancing theirs shafts in the clubs. Honma is known for precisely their graphite shafts which are of top quality and have been in the forefront of development, so if you decide not to use the shafts, why don't you find other makes that are better with steel shafts such as Mizuno, Titlest, etc. Don't ruin Honma shafts by taking them out of the heads. The TW901 is the tour professional line which a steel shaft option is available. I have a question, have you compared the MG701 vs the MG801? I find the former to be to forgiving and I need a bit of challenge but not too difficult, so I have been considering the MG801.
  23. I think Honma shows that forging or casting method is less of an issue rather than proper balancing between the shaft and the club inherent characteristics. Often clever engineering can defy logic if done right. Reminds of the Porsche which rear-engine basic design defies logic as they can produce perfect balanced ride on the bends.
  24. I notice that some wedges have swing weight around D8-D9 and weight in excess of 440 grams. When I tried a Vokey Design I thought it was very heavy almost like a putter. What would be the right swing weight and weight for wedges if your irons' swing weight is C-9?

I am looking for a new driver to replace my Maruman. I tried the Beres MG712 today with the ARMRQ B49 2-star shaft. Felt very controlled but I'm not sure about the distance and it lacked the oomph I was looking for. I also tried the Beres MG701 irons, with the same shafts, felt similarly controlled but trajectory too high for my taste. It confirms my suspicion that the Beres line is not the same as the Twin Marks. It does not stir your excitement as the latter. After the death of Hiro Honma, the company is not the same. I should try the EPON perhaps.
