I know this is a sin to talk about GD US in here...

But if someone were selling me a brand new (actually shop worn) GD USA putter GAA3 for $155 would it be worth it? Without discussing all the troubles that GD US and Japan are going through is the workmanship on the GAA3 US worth $155. If you don't want to discuss in the open PM me.

IMHO, no it would not be worth it unless you stumbled on THE PUTTER that works magic for you. If that was the case, it would be a bargain. For a little more you could have a Gauge Japan putter that is head and shoulders above the USA one.

Personally I wouldn't buy it, When I was with Dave I would sell brand new GAA3's for 100.00 bucks each+ free hat to the small golf shops in Japan, as a dealer of course. If its new 150.00 is a good price, used 9/10 125.00.

On the other hand if you buy one, then get the Japanese version you will see what we are all talking about.

I am trying my best to mediate the situation between U.S and Japan, both sides are stubborn both sides have different angles on the truth.

Actually upon recomputation of exchange rate it is $145 new.

Chris, I plan to get the US GD for now and then get one of yours for my birthday in 7 weeks. I told the guy who owns the store your story. He wants to sell GD Japan instead but unfortunately they will only sell direct to HK. If I point him you way is there anything you can do?

I am going have to agree with FAQ. I really didn't have a clue until recently.

Earlier this year, I bought a Gauge US ETBW prototype directly from David Whitlam. It was pretty expensive, $340 shipped. At that time I did not know there where 2 Gauge entities. When I first got it, I really liked it, I even posted some pics here and a few poked some fun at my new putter. Later, after a few rounds, I found the putter to be too inconsistent. I sold it only after a month. I thought to myself, what was all the Gauge hype about? Shortly thereafter I found out there was a Gauge Japan.

I recently got a Japan Gauge Shingo proto from Swunk, the differences are night and day. No comparison in quality and workmanship. The feel and consistency of my new Shingo is far superior than the US ETBW that I had. I remember the Gauge US ETBW had some pretty inconsistent glue around the tungsten inserts (wonder if they were even tungsten?).

US gauge putters are not bad, but when compared to Japan Gauge, there is no comparison

My 2 cents :smile2:

Ok I broke down and "sinned". I got 2 (YES TWO) GD USA putters. 1 GAA1 and 1 GAA3. No customization. Stock retail. $255 in my hands total for both. New. I figured I could at least get rid of them at what I got them for if I didn't like them. Hopefully when all my hospital bills are paid I can get a GD Japan. Eyeing the Tour Zero Black and the Tour 3 Black for X'mas.

At that price I probably would have bought them too.
