Posted October 27, 200420 yr comment_62093 I have received many questions about the look and durability of the Mizuno Flat Black, Black Ox, & Oil Can finishes. I have seen them all in person but only own Satin & Flat Black mizzy's. Here are some pics of an MP33 8 Iron M stamp black custom made. I really liked the new T-Series wedges by Mizuno. I highly recommend the OTR U.S version or the Japan Customs. The T head is my ideal perfect wedge, Mizuno has the most talented grinders IMO. The finish is smooth with no flaws, They will wear just as any other black finish does. Wear does give it a really nice style, If you use Iron head covers the entire back & Top remains black, only its face and sole will see normal wear. If your a good ball striker you will only see silver on the sweet spot like ZIP1111 and his 690's, If you hit the ball like me the entire face will eventually turn silver
October 27, 200420 yr comment_62110 very nice pics! indeed. I hear the finish wears well and lasts a couple of golf seasons....
October 27, 200420 yr comment_62117 Very sweet pictures! I must say Chris, you make it hard not to buy clubs from you! Thanks again for sharing!
October 28, 200420 yr comment_62163 Those are seriously some sweet pics. I would love to see some pics of some custom CB's done in black.. Is there no love for black MP30's?
October 28, 200420 yr comment_62214 Chris, How much are the Mizuno wedges with that finish? Those look amazing.
October 28, 200420 yr comment_62217 I also second that - we need a price list for those wedges. Also, what lofts and bounces are available
October 28, 200420 yr comment_62262 I was just looking at the new issue of Japanese Golf Digest and there was an ad for a Mizuno combo set in black finish that included 3 & 4 irons MP-27, 5 6 7 MP-30 and 8 9 PW MP-33. It looked beautiful and I was wondering if the pic that Chris has shown is part of this set.

Yeah i saw that also, The combo set your talking about should be a limited edition thing coming to Japan. I'm not for the 3 tier combo 27/30/33 unless they grind the sole to match each other and adjust the top line as well. Several TSG'ers have bought 3 tier combos and have mentioned even with the same lofts & Lie the distances are not consistant and the trajectory's are very different. 2 tier is cool but like 27's in 3 & 4 but anything more becomes a feel/distance/consistency issue. Each model has a different location for its Center of Gravity.
October 30, 200420 yr comment_62452 ... is that first wedge picture the 58*? ... is that a special sole grind (looks good)?

November 1, 200420 yr comment_62708 Chris, Does the black finish change the feel of the irons, like it does with TM(which has a more of click off the face, as opposed to the satins which feel pretty smooth)?? I am really debating over the black and satin finishes(I don't mind the wear patterns of the black, but I'd be really bummed if it made it feel harder than the satins...... thanks Josh

The Chrome layer is much harder than the raw steel which provides that slightly harder feel. Black Oxide is a chemical treatment to turn the metal to a black color not a plating.

Makes sense, what is the difference between the flat black and black ox? The flat looks to be more of aplating or coating than a Ox. Josh
