Sgt_Slaughter
ok, i have trouble hitting a 3-iron and sometimes a 4-iron. with these two clubs, my swing needs to be round than upright, correct? i can hit them solidly, but with a cut, i would like have more of a fade or straight ball flight with these clubs. any help would be greatly appreciated
jeffy
Could be an outside-to-in swingpath with the left-to-right spin being accentuated with the lower lofted clubs. I read this article (recommended by hue) http://d4358519.s74.snitz.net/forum/topic.....asp?TOPIC_ID=4 and found it helpful when hitting balls over the weekend. You might also look at a book that is very good at identifying flaws and prescribing cures: "Understanding the Golf Swing" by Manuel de la Torre. Why not see a teacher and get some drills and advise from him?

scratchgolfnut69
I haven't used a 3 or 4 iron in a few years. My 7 wood is as easy to hit as a wedge so why bother struggling to hit a 3 or 4 iron :o
HipCheck
With my TourStage FUT utilities, I have no reason to hit a 3 or 4 iron. They can be hit from ANYWHERE and chip like no club I've ever had. No reason to hit long irons anymore.
garth
I agree with Hipcheck and scratch. Long irons are best used as gardening utensils. Stick 'em in the dirt and tie your tomato plants to them so that they grow tall and straight. Put more woods or hybrids in your bag.

DoubleAA
I love my long irons, really keeps me in check with my ball contact. If I hit them well then I am on plane ands swinging well. I swing them as I would my 5 iron, down on top of the ball. Ball placement and swing tempo are both big factors in how successful you are with these clubs.. No tomatoes on my 2, 3, and 4. jboy
Could be you are coming over the top, thus cutting it. You may also have the reverse pivot, trying to lift the shot with your swing than letting the club loft do the work I hit my long irons real solid, key is to hit down on the ball, have faith in the club doing the work and make a complete follow through. I bet if you did a poll, the swingers and sweepers have issues hititng the long irons and carry utils. Hitters tend to keep the long sticks in the bag. Utils are more forgiving, but as someone pointed out long iron play is usually first to go and creeps into the rest of your game... if you're hitting your 3 iron strong off the turf you're game can't be that wide of the mark. :tired:
Sgt_Slaughter
arent u supposed to sweep the ball with ur long-irons, utilitys and driver? and hit down on ur short irons and wedges? i read it somwhere
DoubleAA
When ever I tried to sweep the ball I hit worm burners or skull crushers. If I treated the long irons like the 5 I, it gave me great shots. Know If I was hitting the long I of the tee, I would tee it up real low and perform the same stroke, good traj, easy to work as normal. kre8ivetl
Hit the range, and try to hit a hook. Every ball, hook it. start with bring the club more inside and attack the inside quarter of the ball. try to engrain some feel and not think about mechanics. Sgt_Slaughter
and that will give me the feeling of coming from the inside like i should normally do?
kre8ivetl
Thats the plan. I'm working on the same thing myself though, i spent time at the range today and concentrated on not letting my hands get any farther from my body than at address (at the club parrallel to the groun position) and rounding it off at the top. Good luck
