Just got fitted. Need help choosing irons.

After great deliberation, I decided to break the bank and drive 4 hours south to Bethesda, Maryland for a fitting with Wade at the Golf Care center.

Long story short, I need some member's expertise. The most pressing matter is that I need clubs almost an inch over standard. At the present time I am playing the PING G2 irons, having stupidly sold my X-300 FCI's.

Can anyone think of an iron in between the Tm's and G2's in terms of forgiveness? My number one concern is to get a head light enough so as a set can be built to approximately D-2 swingweight.

I am thinking of the Miura MC-101 because I know they can deliver lightweight heads. I would love to get the MP-27 but I dont think they come heads only. And I really get psyched out by BLADE looking cavity backs. I am probably the only guy on this board who prefers a thicker top line.

Thanks for any input.

thanks for the prompt reply. I did actually look at your irons due to the service provided. My concern was that it just did not have the level of forgiveness and look for me. Most of the stuff looks like player's irons, where as I was thinking of something thicker looking and alittle more forgiving.

Thanks

You might check out Tom Wishon's stuff. He has a complete line of clubheads if you're bent on going the component route. Or you might try Scratch Golf, they'll basically make the set to order for you, but I'm not sure they'll be as forgiving a club as you're looking for.

Well are cavity backs especially the TC-2 are very eay tio hit and are very inexpensive as well. You can order a set of 3-PW for $599 or even get them with the new Tour Concept shafts(which are awesome) for under $800

your old TM's were the original prototypes for the irons i play, the TM 300 forged...try those, but they have a thin topline. you can find many nice sets on ebay or at a used store, and id imagine on here as well. mine are at a D-2 SW.

also, the titleist 690 CB's have a slightly thicker topline...give those a shot if you like the forged feeling. if not, the 704's are wonderful as well, and are a tad more forgiving.

Just a thought, I was under the impression that if you add wieght to the grip end of the shaft (ie Balance golf gadget) you can counter-act the increased swing weight that the longer shaft brings. Of course the overall static wieght of the club will increase but this can be worked out in different weighted shafts.

In any event, I've switched from the Ping I3 Osize to Mizuno MP30's and found that while they took a little getting used to (I also switched from JZstiff shafts to DGx100) they are pretty forgiving. I also liked the looks of the Titleist 704's maybe look into the 804 as they are a little larger thus more forgiving.

My .02 is that you don't need larger iron heads for forgiveness. I've found that the smaller, thinner top line heads like the Mizuno's or the Tourstage Z's are as forgiving and easy to hit as the Pings or Cally's. You just need to adjust a little. Well worth it in the long run. No more shovels as you look down at your ball.
