MikeyO
Am thinking about switching my irons but am after a bit of guidance. At the moment I’ve got some Mizuno T-Zoid pros which I’ve had for about 10 years. Am wanting to switch from to some slightly stiffer (S300) shafts so am thinking about just going for a wholesale change. I’m a big Mizuno fan so am keen to stick with their clubs. Currently playing off index of 5 and have been working hard in flattening out my ball flight. Seem to change my mind on a daily basis as to what clubs I want. Was thinking about some mp33’s, until I hit a set yesterday – found they hit the ball much higher than my Zoids. So have turned to the mp32’s or alternatively am thinking about the mx23’s for that extra forgiveness as I’m not yet at the stage where I can middle everything. Another possibility is a custom set - saw some pics of a set of satin finish 27’s and they looked sweet. If anybody has any hit both the 23’s / 32’s and can compare that would be great. Also as I’m new to this site if somebody could explain how you go about getting your hands on a ‘custom finished’ set that would be cool. I’m assuming they cost a small fortune?! Thanks, Mike
MikeyO
After some futher searching found out about the custom mizunos - very nice indeed although not sure can justify expenditure. Still looking for thoughts on ball flight/forgiveness comparisons though. Thanks, Mike
MGB
As you can see from my sig, I'm still using T-Zoids (True Forged blades). I suffered from the same ball flight problems you do, but the T-Zoids fixed that. I have TT DG S300 Sensicore shafts in them have had since the beginning. The MP-37s have the same lofts as my Zoids and have flight patterns with the same shaft. MP-32s are nice too, similar lofts and lies as my Zoids and the 37s but haven't hit them enough to tell for sure, but in range sessions they felt very close. Retail MP-37 or 32 should be fine for you. Key is the shaft. S300 will give lower ball flight than the other stock shafts. Hope this helps. bjp1
I've owned both the MX23 and MP32 irons. Both were installed with Rifle 5.5 shafts. MX-23 - more forgiving, higher ballflight, slightly firmer feel MP-32 - forgiving for a blade, slightly thicker topline than other blades, mid-high ballflight MX-23's are very underrated, but a very solid performing forged cavity back design. If I could do it again, I'd go back to the MX-23's. They seemed to keep the sloppy rounds away. bp
MikeyO
Thanks BP that was exactly what i was looking for. I love the look of the 32's, but at the end of the day golf is about putting together a score, and i suspect the 23's might be better for that. I'll sacrifice the slightly higher flight for a touch more forgiveness. Thanks, Mike
SwingMan
Haven't played the 32s but have read many posts on them - supposedly a bit more forgiving than the 33 with a lower ball flight. I have played the MX-23s for 1.5 years -- forgiving, soft feel when you contact the ball spot on, higher ball flight. I use Nippon 1050s but you can lower the ball flight a tad with your shaft choice. While I think the long irons are forgiving, I just go 5-PW and have the new CLK for the 20 and 23 club. The Exsar shafts in the CLK are not bad -- they seem stout enough and keep the ball flight in a high mid penetrating flight. Just a thought in case you are custom ordering and don't want the whole 3-PW package.
docman
Great combination. Did not have any trouble with MP37 3 and 4 irons, but I have not really missed a shot with the MX 23's. All are shafted with project X 6.5. Excellent trajectory. Much lower ballflight than when they came with DG S300. Before this set, I played MP33's. Excellent forgiving blade but I hit them way to high. They have a much lower COG than the MP37's.
