sam2011
whats up all! hope everything is going well with everyone... heres my issue... ive been playing my TM 300's for a few years now and for the first time in 3 or so years, i thought "is it time to change?" i have a set of 300's i got through my school's athletic dept. when i played in college, got them fit for my swing (1/4" short, X100, D2, +1 up)...nothing special or anything. just a set of regular 300's. im an observer for the most part on here, and have been reading what everyone has been saying for a couple months about the new sticks out there, and heres what im thinking. 1) i have been very satisfied with TM, and i technically do not "need" new irons, i hit these rather well. should i listen to the adage of "if it aint broke dont fix it"? 2) since im satisfied with TM, are the new RAC TP's worth the $ for me? how will they compare with my 300's? are they worth the switch? has technology came far enough for me to make a difference? others ive considered are the new nike pro combos, 690CB's, and an open to any other suggestion. i think id like to stay with a forged cavity. im happy with my shortened X100 shaft, i think, so i'll probably stick with that, unless anyone can offer any better suggestion... 3) im 23, play to anywhere from a 3 to a 6 (depending on which way the wind is blowing :o ) im 5'8", weigh 151lbs, swing speed with driver is about 113, 5 iron around 96....and try to practice every day... anyone who can compute the mindless BS of what i just typed into some advice, i thank them and salute them! thanks guys/gals... -sammy
TMJUNKIE
I have also played the 300's for the last few years and have loved them. I have unfortunately completely worn them out, and I'm also looking for new irons. IMO the 300's are the best irons TM ever made. IMO with all the other good choices out there I wouldn't choose anything TM unless it was another set of 300's or rac 2004 cb's which I have not hit. I would say give the new j33 combos a try in march.
kpcw
Well...nice irons and your story is one we all face, every season (at the least). Me, imo, you play between a +3 and a +6, you are young, 23 and with your irons -.25" you are probably around 5'7" (a guess). With X100 shafts, yep, you have a strong swing and since your irons are 2* upright, you are a little steep at impact. You have an awesome set, one of the most heralded set of irons of all time. But, like all men, you see hotter blondes at the end of the bar. I am surprised at your 7.5* driver. Pretty low, does this mean you are masking a flaw in your swing/lauch angle? Are you steep with your driver, do you hit fades or draws naturally? If you use a 9.0* driver, does the ball balloon? IMO, if the 300's are in great shape, polish them, re-grip them and stick em back in your bag. I have never had irons re-finished and I do not know how I would feel once I got them back. I might doubt them or not, dunno. Ever consider getting them re-finished? Yes, the 2004 and 2005 Rac TP is sweet. Also Mizuno, ever consider them? Work on your driver. I could see you with a new driver in 2005! Work on your wedge game, get closer to that pin to sink two more putts per round! Consider some Project X or TT Tour Concepts in a new Rac TP or Mizuno??? I also suspect you need a Valentine :chickblnd:

jeffy
My $0.02: Don't give up on the 300's until they are worn out. In the meantime, try to hit all the clubs that appeal to you and/or are played by people you respect. This year I'd focus on your driver, as kpcw suggests, and your scoring, which can always get better (unless you're Phil Mickelson!). Good luck! Guest
I just went from a set of 300 forged lehman box toes with S300's to a set of 2005 Rac TP's with TT TC S3's in them and love them......sweet set of irons as well......also went back to the original tour 510TP tour issue in a 10.5 with a Diamana shaft......our game soudns familiar and this has worked best for me.....its all about the shaft......but the 2005 Rac TP's are super sweet with the TC S3's in them......finally my bag is set for the season .....only changes may be a shaft change or two
glenwayputters
I agree, it is all about the shaft. I bought the box toes from xgator2bman (Jason) and I immediately changed the shafts to X-100s and that made all of the difference in the world to me. I have played TM 300s for a few years off and on and these irons feel completely different with the X-100s in them. jay
sam2011
gotcha...thanks all so far! work on the driver y'all say? to answer a question, yes if i hit a 9 degree driver it looks like i hit a sand wedge with a 150% swing :o a month or so ago, i tossed the idea around of getting a 510 DF in an 8.5, and shortening up the swing. thoughts? taylormadefan
Sounds like you're a high flight/spin player which is what I am as well. Changing to the 510TP DF will help since that's one of the lowest spin heads ever. But be careful with shaft selection, and make sure you get a low spin model like a tipped Accra 70, or the fuji 757. The 510 is like your 300's, the best product TM has put out. I was talking to a Titleist rep and he said that hte 510 is the hardest club to pry out of anyone's bag, professional or amateur. I bought a tour R7, and it's just gathering dust because it just doesn't feel as solid as my 510. Your current shaft is suited well to your high launch style, but may be taking away from your swing speed. If you're still hitting the ball too high, it may be a swing issue, possibly club ahead of hands at impact, maybe time to see your PGA pro.
