CurtR
I am thinking of adding 1 inch of shaft length over standard to a DG S-300 shaft that is in a Tourstage TS-202 irons. That is 38.75 inch shaft on a 5 iron. Short of installing a new shaft to spec is it acceptable to add a butt extension to bring it to the desired length? kpcw
If done correctly, one should never add more than 1" for an extension on a shaft (imo). I believe one inch is looked upon as the maximum amount one can add. A customer at my friend's shop insisted and demanded a 1 and 1/2" extension on his driver. He was told 1" was max. They did it for him and it snapped in one of his first rounds. The shop did it again for him, the same thing happened. It will affect swing weight and you'll have to consider the lie angles as well. There are several professional club makers on this site who can offer you the specs of the change of swingweight etc. Me? They are TTDGS300, right? I'd consider a new set of shafts. I'd want to make sure of swingweight etc and the shafts are rather inexpensive. Labor? You'll spend how much time extending the shafts and just maybe, in the back of your mind, you'll have some doubt in the clubs. Your call, Good luck. DUBBED
I extended mine once and it threw the frequency off so bad, I'm not good enough to notice the difference but it drove me crazy psycologically. I ended replacing the shafts pretty quick. I think for every 1 inch of length the lie changes 3*. I could be wrong though.
NickBooras
I don't see any problem extending the club by one inch with an extension. It will mess with the frequency a bit, but I would suggest trying one or two with an extension first, before you invest more money on a new set of DG shafts. As far as length on an extension, I have had luck going out to 1.5" or 2" with very snug fitting steel extensions, however, I will not do it for my average customer. 1" is the maximum I am comfortable with. As far as how it will change the specs of the club, a 1" extension will increase the swing weight by 6 points, and make it play 2 more degrees upright. junior_golfer
My dad competes in numerous long drive competitions and has added over 2 inches to his shafts before. With a swing speed excess of 125 mph. he has yet to break even 1 of his shafts. But these are steel and may respond differently (breaking wise). yeah right! :-)
