Posted March 9, 200519 yr comment_83650 I am consistently making contact towards the heel of the club. I have tried standing farther away from the ball, etc but nothing helps. This is getting very frustrating. fyi I'm 6'4" and a 6 hdcp. Suggestions Please!!!!
March 9, 200519 yr comment_83655 i know the feeling man i've done the same thing ever since i picked up a golf club. i have a tendency to come to much from the inside, you might be doing the same thing. i just line up with the ball a little more towards the toe it seems to have helped me, especially with my driver
March 9, 200519 yr comment_83656 Were these clubs fitted for you? How is your stance at address, are your hands hanging straight down, extended, or inset(close to the body)?
March 9, 200519 yr Author comment_83677 I was fitted for the clubs. 3* upright and 1.5" over. I think my arms are pretty much hanging straight down. I have been addressing the ball towards the toe of the club as a temporary fix, but I would like to get to the point that I don't have to manipulate my address position. The driver and long irons don't seem to be much of a problem, but my pitching wedge has a real tight wear pattern right on the heel!! Any suggestions would be aprreciated.
March 9, 200519 yr comment_83683 If it is in your swing, you may be leaning into the shot a little too much. Your head could be moving out toward the ball and/or you could be up on your toes at impact. You may try to hit off your heels for a while and see if that makes a difference. Have you checked your measurements by Ping's static chart? If your swing is sound, you may have clubs that are slightly too long and/or slightly too upright. I have been taught several ways to fit players, but over the years I have come to realize that unless you have a really odd swing, you should be pretty close to Ping's chart. I have seen too many people get fit into clubs that are too long. Of course, it is hard to say without seeing you. You may need to go to another fitter for a second opinion if your swing is sound. Good luck, Paul

You must have short arms. I'm 6' 3", wrist to floor 36". My 5 iron length 38.5", Driver 44", 3 wood 42", wedges are all 36"
March 17, 200519 yr comment_85583 I am 6' 5" and am also a 6 hdcp. I fight the same tendency. My irons are 3º upright and + 1". I have have been working with my pro (who is also one of my pals), and we finally got in a game simulator and set it on driving range. It was the kind that gives all the feedback: images of your club path, face open, closed or square - stats on swing speed, ball speed, # of degrees inside or outside, # degrees clubface open or closed, impact location on clubface, tempo #s - the works. It was great for my pro because it is hard for these guys to be sure of what the are actually seeing, even with video. The stats were very helpful to him. Also, if you have a non-standard size (tall in particular) it is a little harder to visually read what is really happening in a swing. It was a great experience, and an extremely productive session. The bottom line for me was that I can come from the inside too much at times. It does make sense after all - if your clubhead is traveling in that direction, it makes sense that it could get too far outside at impact. Now I KNOW what is going on here, and I can confidently adjust when necessary. It makes all the difference in the world. I hope this helps some. Good Luck.
March 19, 200519 yr comment_86121 definately sounds like clubs are too upright. i am short ie 5'8 and i know when my clubs arent flattened i start to strike the ball in the heel area! thats a scarey thought because i dont want the ball goin anywere near the hossel!

I'm 6'3" and 2 degree's upright with standard length.... and i do the EXACT same thing but it only happens on my wedges. The rest of my clubs i have absolutely no problem with it. I would love to find a solution because like other's here...i really don't want to solve the problem by setting the club up with the ball on the toe.
March 22, 200519 yr comment_86702 Clubs are too long, and your swing is coming too far from the inside.

March 26, 200519 yr comment_87969 No worries, this is a common problem. What happens when you strike the ball on the hosel, the ball actually richochets off the hosel then bounces onto the club face and the ball usually flies 20 yards towards the right hand side. Very nasty shot to pull on a golf course. This problem has little to do with being too tall, too short or having your clubs at the wrong length. If you could get a shot of yourself doing this on camera. Put a black marker line right in front of your forehead at address. Now, as you complete your backswing and when you are on your way down, you will notice your forehead point moving forward right over the marker, natural tendency during the downswing to exert power on the ball. You need to exert a more 'around the body' power rather than down towards the ball. When the forehead goes over the line on the downswing, automatically the shoulders and the hands move forward. If the forehead stays in place on camera the shoulders and arms can only extend the distance you prepared for it at address. Keep the forehead from moving forward, exert more power sideways rather than downwards and it should fix the problem Hope this helps. cheers.
March 26, 200519 yr comment_88057 The best ball strikers all hit the ball on the heel. I hit the ball closer to the heel myself, it doesn't bother me. Just means I'm coming from the inside, which I like. As long as you're making solid contact and not hitting a repulsive amount of shanks I wouldn't worry about it.
March 29, 200717 yr comment_131945 Chromium is absolutely right, I suffer from this because I lunge at the ball causing me to move my hips towards the ball. I don't know how to fix it yet, I'm still working on it. The cause is heel hits and occasional shanks. It's a swing problem , not a fitting problem. Lots of good players hit closer to the heel because many blades have their sweet spot there. Modern day cavity backs have their sweet spot dead center from heel to toe. I think it's probably better to hit center and not the heel. It's probably a swing issue.
