Posted March 27, 200519 yr I need to know what length an 869 should be tipped in order to have it play correct to flex in a 217 gram 3 wood. Is 1 inch to much? Thanks, G
April 2, 200519 yr at the most i would tip it half inch.. very strong shaft and sometimes i have not even tipped them for 3wds and they work fine at 43'' length.. for a 5wd an inch is fine.. inch for a 3wd would be great for a high swing speed> 110+ on a driver.. point and swing effect.. my thoughts..
April 3, 200519 yr Author I am inserting an 869 that has been trimmed 1/2 inch into a TM 200 smoothie 3 wood and was just curious how it will play. The head seems to weigh about 217 grams and I just floed the shaft and added a 2 gram lead tip weight, so Im excited to hit it. The weight limits the insertion depth about an 1/8th of an inch less, not sure if that matters. I glued it up and now Im going to try it tomorrow. I have been playing a retail V-steel with a regular shaft and have been playing it quite well. I have about a 115 SS and just prefer a soft shaft. Im just hoping the 869 isnt to stout. Its an (S) flex. Anyone here play this combo? Thanks, Grant
April 4, 200519 yr I have the 869 in a SS-03 and its a quality shaft, no doubt! But it is hookable, I would recommend going with an X
April 4, 200519 yr The last 869 I had in a 3 wood I tipped it 1 1/2". Most recommend tipping it 1" for a 3 wood.
