johnnypro
For a few years, the Tourstage J340 was one of the most sought after clubs out there. I saw heads alone selling for $600 - $700 on ebay (maybe here, too). Now the bottom seems to have completely fallen out. I have one I was thinking of selling or trading but from the way the market for this club looks now, I probably couldn't give it away. Is it because everyone's playing larger heads, was it all just BS to begin with or what??? :huh2: :huh2: Any thoughts?
hornyjuan
Great great club but just not long enough this day in age. Probably considered one of the best looking drivers of all time but again, the forgiveness cannot be compared to say a r5tp, r7tp, or any 400+cc driver. Don't get me wrong, the J340 was a great "players" driver as you could work the ball with ease but just give me 300yds down the line with super easy forgiveness and I'm sold. BostonHack
I think it was over $$$ to begin with(what is not?). You can buy a R5 DF cheap now, even some 510 TPs are going for small sums. I would say it's a great looking head and its charm may come back later, but for now, there are cheaper alternatives that do the work, in a more forgiving way, I may add, just find the right shaft and you are set to go.
+TourSpecGolfer
I wouldnt use the term "Holy Grail" on any club because what works for one man may not work for the other. That being said this club is IMO a 340cc X500 driver from bridgestone. The prices should have always been much lower than they have been, and it probobly all started out with one very convincing seller making the masses believe that this J340 like the 300Tour are the greatest thus making it his " Holy Grail ". siteseer2
The J340 was a beautifully classic head, that was very solid, and performed great... thats why it was in the bags of tour guys like Leonard, Petrovic and others... but that was some time ago-- when 340 ccs was considered a 'larger" head... remember the tour guys playing the TM 320 and 300s, and Titty JVS and Js... then along came the R510 at 390 ccs and suddenly 400 ccs was the vogue... now 460 ccs is the vogue... like anything, technology chages and the prices on these drops accordingly... hey, go buy a new car and bring in back in a year and see what they'll give you for it... no difference

No way... I had six J340s, at a time when finding even one was a solar-eclipse rarity... the X-500 was night and day different, and the J340 was superior in every way-- looks, feel, foregiveness, and performance... the X-500 was okay but never in the same league as the j340... Believe it or not! I still have one in my hand here 8.8* loft. Still up to now is one of the longest driver i've ever hit and solid feel. I can agree w/ chris about the "Holy grail" thing. If 70% of the players play w/ this club, then i would say "That's a holy grail". Joe

My opinion differs, the X-500 was not a night and day difference, same material, overall same classic pear shape tourstage is known for and same feel, just in a different size and other subtle differences but not many at all. Owning 6 of anything and having a hard time finding them doesn't make any club a holy grail or the greatest. I assume if you ask Tiger the X500 is better than the J340 thats why he requested his first original JDI driver based off of it. X-500 is a proven classic used by tens of thousands back in the day and even dozens on tour while the J340 had much less play even in its best moment. It honestly got most of its play in the forums  The J340 has had a lot of unnecessary hype as did the 300 Tour on Internet forums. Its just the majority of the forum members don't have the chance to hit much of it so they go based off of what everyone is saying on the web. If a few top posters say its the holy grail chances are hundreds to thousands will follow. IMO There is no Holy Grail.
hornyjuan
The X500 was an insanely good driver just like it's predecessor the X100. A majority of the Tourstage staff played that club and I remember 5-6 years ago that was the club to have.

Same with the J340, I agree its awesome no doubt.
johnnypro
All I know is that's what a lot of folks used to call it and now, less than a year later, they're selling like used Edsels. And now that I have one, to tell you the truth, I don't know what all the fuss was about in the first place. Yes, it's nice looking but it doesn't look, sound or feel any better than several others I've tried (and owned). Maybe I'll use it as a stake for holding up my tomato plants. Joe Agreed the term holy anything is blowing smoke... today's wonder club will be tomorrow's dud... that's the nature of technology... the X-500 was more like the Titleist E in shape, very deep faced and smallish pear shaped... the J340 was a great driver in its day... I actually thought the MR-23 (2d U.S. Version) was an improvement in looks and feel, too bad the 8.5 was the only conforming version, as its a low spin driver and hit a LOW ball... I was never a fan of the X-500... overall I think Bridgestone has had the best technology and the best looking driver line-up of any OEM... wish they had never trashed the brand with the second rate U.S. stuff they released...
