+TourSpecGolfer
Taken from http://www.tmaginsider.com/?p=157%20It In little more than a year-and-a-half, TaylorMade’s r7 quad driver has been used to win more than 50 professional tournaments around the world. An amazing accomplishment. The 50th win, coincidentally, was achieved by TaylorMade-adidas Tour Staff pro Ron Streck. A coincidence because Ron was the first player to win a professional tournament – the 1981 Houston Open – while using a TaylorMade metalwood. To commemorate the 50th victory, TaylorMade-adidas president and CEO Mark King presented Streck with a specially made gold-colored r7 quad in a ceremony at TaylorMade-adidas headquarters in Carlsbad, Calif. Streck called his connection with TaylorMade “emotional” because of the many people he knows who were with the company during its early years and who are still with the company, including King, executive vice president Sean Toulon and senior director of media relations John Steinbach. Reminiscing, Streck recalled his introduction to TaylorMade, when company founder Gary Adams approached him on a practice range in 1978. “I was sitting on the end of my bag, which had the logo of a famous golf equipment company on the side. Gary asked me how much they paid me to carry their bag and I told him nothing. He said, if I match that, will you carry mine?” A year later the first TaylorMade drivers were ready for play, and Streck tried one at the 1979 Tournament of Champions. Concerned it would stand out too much he painted it black and wrapped the ferrule with whipping, to “disguise” it as a persimmon wood. Yet there was no hiding the superior performance. With his first swing he bounced a ball off the back fence of the range, and that from poor lie. “The compact head shape and smooth sole made it look like a great fairway club to me,” said Streck, “so I dropped in a divot hole to see what it could do. I was amazed.” He put it in his bag as a 3-wood, but eventually started using it from the tee because he hit it longer than his driver. Lance99
I know a TM rep I am going to ask him about this driver. It is interesting to see how and where golf clubs have advanced over time, and also what has stayed the same. Thanks Chris.

JHilg
That thing NEEDS to be shafted with the new Speeder 555. That would be amazing. Not that anyone would actually play it, but that would be a sweet looking combo. Gold R7 with a gold Speeder. Nice Hilg
