I fought with this problem in the past and tried a Royal Precision Rifle shaft with good results. The problem is towards the end of the round I had problems keeping my tempo due to fatigue. It was even worse when I played 36. How about going to a heavy Fujikura graphite shaft (Pro 95) or something comparable? Just a thought....

I love using steel in my FW's. It keeps me in the fairway much more than any graphite shaft can. I use lighter softer steel shafts like the NS850 or NS950. You will lose a touch of distance but if it keeps you in the FW its a score saver.

i wasn't a graphite shaft guy until a few years ago, geez i was still playing a x100 shaft in my R510 TP until just before Sergio made the switch, i play my driver almost the same length as the steel, @44" its a hald inch longer. I could never go back to a steel shaft in my driver, nor the 3wood, to me it seems to be a big change in in flight, kick, weight, ect. i have a heavy 100gram shafts in my 3woods, but the one in the bag now is only about 89grams b/c i have to have the pink shaft! although you are going to sacrifice atleast 15-20, thats about what i lost when comparing, you will certainly be able to keep it in the fw more. just my .02 cents

I just got a Nak 3w that I've shafted with a True Temper Crossfire shaft. It's a regular flex that I tipped an to play a little stiffer. Had great success with this shaft in my Nickent 3dX 20° ironwood and had to give it a shot!

Uncut, this 44" shaft weighs in at 96g.

I'll have to give that shaft a try -- sounds pretty light :). My favorite "heavier" shaft in a 3 wood is the Graphite Design YS9.1. For me it performs better than steel (distance and feel). O.K., accuracy is an entirely different question :tsg_smiley_embarrassed:

Ditto for me. :tsg_smilie_cool:

I have been using nothing but Nippon NS950's in my 3 woods for a while now. I tried all the high end graphites, but these simply work better. I notice very little loss of distance but the accuracy is of charts!

i like steel in my utilities so i put a 950 in my 3 wood for added consistency. When i tried it out i really didn't like it. It seemed harder to hit, esp off the fairway and there was a loss in distance, which is expected. If anything i suggest a heavier graphite shaft. But that's just my opinion, some people actucally like steel.

its a cost issue-- there are many good graphite shafts that are in the 90-100gram range now and will work as good or better than steel.. they just cost alot.. rifles, x-100 & nippon work great and accuracy monsters.. pro 95, ys-9, vp-90, tour trac 100,icon heavy weight, ul-680..... all great fwy shafts and offer better feel i think-- just more $$$$$ :tsg_smiley_ninja:
