acrazygolfer
Thanks for the post Rodfern. I think the sequence is opposite since I have a quick tempo, high trajectory and SS of 105/110 and the recommended shaft is the 6564H to low the trajectory. So I clicked 46m/s, then the top ( fast swing tempo) and bottom (low trajectory) and the result is: 6564H As such, it appears the correct sequences are: Swing tempo (top to bottom): fast, medium, slow. Trajectory (top to bottom): high, medium, low.

SwingMan
Before I pull the trigger, I want to ask how these shafts play in the larger heads (is there a certain weight I should look for) and whether they play slightly weaker in flex. I did the selection choice and it says 6564M. I selected M based on the feedback that the L is very low kick (produces a fairly high flight) My SS is 97-101 in an SQ Max Stiff and 1.3 second tempo (if that makes sense). SwingMan
Hopefully Sfgolfer and Fairwayfred can chime in since they both recently tested the Axiv. Thanks - from the posts, it seems the Axiv play a tad weaker. Having a 9.5 in an SQ, I wonder how the Axiv will do in the M launching shaft. I know Ari liked the dispersion but was wondering if it is still holding up. I was also wondering how it would compare to the 60g Rombax - since the Rombax is supposed to be stable for the bigger heads. Thanks for keeping up with this thread! I have mine in a 450cc head - FairwayFred has his in a 460/470cc head so no worries about bigger heads. I prefer heavier feeling heads but that's a personal choice and has nothing to do with the shaft. I would say 6060 or 6564 are the consideration set for you. With that SS, you can probably handle either. However, I think the heavier shaft will be more in line with your experience. Moreover, the Axiv loads unlike any other shaft I've played. I think this makes it FEEL softer than it plays (and you've already heard people discuss their views on the shaft playing soft to flex). So, I'd rec the 6564M (and go orange). Hope this helps. Thanks for keeping up with this thread! I would reccomend the 6564M untipped for you. I am still really likeing this shaft I just installed one in my 3 wood (7568M) I am doing another huge driver test now that we have our TrackMan I have the 671TE, Ozik TP-7 and Stulz 65g to try to unseat the Axiv. We will see what ends up being the best after the test. IMO the M launches a little higher than most mid flex shafts. No problem at all for the bigger heads. what do you like for 112-115, pretty smooth tempo, noticeably high flight ... i did the fitting it and it came out 7572H ... i like plenty of weight (currently play a pro95x)?? Mike, I think the 7572H would be the one for you to try. Just have Joe do the tipping and get it around where you need it. Unfortunetly they dont offer the shaft in any heavier than 75g. I think you would really like the shaft be sure to let me know how it is working for you if you do decide to try it. SwingMan
Thanks, Ari. At what point would you try tipping the 6564 in a 9.5 SQ -- After some speed training and working on the ole flexibility, the SS Radar showed my SS to be consistently in the 101-102 range, going up to 105 with tempo at 1.25-1.3. I'm also interested in that Stulz - so gear it up, please, we need some reviews here (lol).
acrazygolfer
Swingman, How much to tip is a pretty tough question to answer given the purpose of tipping is to optimize the trajectory, carry and total roll of the ball. This is where a good clubfitter earns his money ... the skills to match the shaft and club head to a particular player. For example, player A likes to play to about 260 cpm (cycles per minutes) and wants a Fuji shaft "X" in a TM r7 460cc with the following set up 2-2 & 10-10 and at 45". To achieve 260 cpm, the clubfitter must calculate the weight of the head plus the four weights to the general flex of shaft "X." Assuming that Shaft "X," installed 1 1/2" plays to 45" in this R7 frequencied out to 255 cpm, he now must tip trim the shaft to get to 260 cpm. How much to tip depends on the tip characteristic of the shaft (soft tip or firm tip, flex point, torque, weight, etc). Long story short, get to know at what CPM you're performing at yours best. For me, it is at about 255/258. Edited February 3, 2006 by acrazygolfer

Id be very interested to see what you thought of the 7572H. I know you want to go with the H for sure as the M launches it a little higher than you would want and is a little too spinney for you IMO. I have no experience with the H shaft only the M.

I have no experience with the H shaft only the M. Ari, It's one of the blue protos that came out a year or so I guess. First time I ever saw or hit it. It's 78 grams, 2.5* torque, high quick. Very robust, but smooth feeling ... explosive kick thought the ball ... penetrating (but not low) trajectory with very tight dispersion. performs like a shaft that should feel like a pipe, but it's very lively. very first hit wowed me ... and i rarely feel that way about anything. Absolutely no hint of any ballooning.

Rodfern
I have seen a lot of threads about selecting the right Axiv shaft. Stumbled on a link at http://www.axiv.jp where they recommend a matrix for selecting the right shaft. It is based on swing speed, tempo, desired ball flight and weight. The site is tough if you can't reach japanese, but the link off the home page clearly says MATRIX. Oncle clicked, there is a "start" button which leads to the actual selection matric. These steps are challenging because of lanuage but it is somewhat intuitive. The speed is easy; it is in m/sec but with the help of an online coverstion tool, (Convert M/sec to Mph: http://www.onlineconversion.com/speed_common.htm ) no prob to find MPH. For tempo, I guessed that the top is slow, middle is avg, bottom is quick. For trajectory, top is low, middle is mid, bottom is high. Weight is easy as it is in grams. Anyone out there who can read japanese, pls comment on what each tempo/traj selection box says. If you are thinking about Axiv. this may be the way to go to pick the right shaft for you. Will try it myself and re-post results. Regards, Rodfern Well, I used the tool to pick my AXIV and as promised reporting back. I was led to a 6568M and when this shaft was recieved and installed it performed very well for me. Tightens of dispersion and AXIV "kick" was there! However, I had replaced a UST V2 75 shaft and found myself missing that extra weight. Consequently the 6568M has been replaced with a 7568M and I could not be happier! Great shafts these AXIVs! I just posted the 6568M for resale is anyone is interested. Regards, Rodfern
matrick
That is exactly correct! I am trying to figure out what axiv shaft is right for me and i am very confused with the chart on line. assume a swing speed of 46 ms(=103mph), and i want a mid trajectory. if i click the top tempo button i get a shaft 6564M. if i click the midle button i get a 6568M. If i click the bottom tempo button i get a 6572M. the specs on each of these are 6564M=3.5 torque, and 268 cpm. 6568M=3.5 torque, and 279cpm 6572M=3.5 torque, and 291cpm. Intuitively I would equate the 268 with a SLOWER tempo and the 291 cpm with an FAST tempo. So i would think the top box is for slow, middle is for medium, and bottom box is for fast. ???? SwingMan
For all Avix users and interested parties, if you are on the cusp of a 6564 or 6568 (closer to 46 than 43 (45.7)) in speed on the Avix selector tool, is it better just to get the 6568 and not tip it or do the 6564 and tip? I wouldn't get to caught up on the numbers, The first two numbers equal the weight and the second equal flex. i.e 6064M = 60 gram 6.4 flex Mid kick. Pick your favorite weight, the closest flex possible and your kick point and give it a try.
