rymorrison
I noticed that a majority of touring professionals use True Temper X shafts on their irons... does anyone know why this may be? Are Nippon Shafts of equal quality and usage by pro's. Also, since pro's have everything custom, how much better are shafts used by pro's as compared to retail sale (does it really make a huge difference?) Thanks, Ryan aka *rygolf06
DUBBED
This is my attempt at answering your last question. I don't think that the steel shafts that pros get are necessarily better than retail, just that the flexs all across their set are more consistent and true to flex. For example if you ordered 5 X100 from golfsmith youd probably get 2 actual x flexs, a weak x, and 2 stiffs. An X100 from the tour van is actually an x100. DUBBED
I honestly don't know, I've never fiddled with Nippons before. If you purchase them through a local clubmaker he could probably tweak them around for you so that the flex is consistent.

littleprov1x
It's more of a consistency thing. In my RAC CB Miura's all of the s-300's were right on the money flexing at like 5.5, except for my 9 iron, which flexed at somewhere near women's flex. This would never happen to a pro, what is on the shaft is what they get. A lot use TT, but PX is also very popular. Nippon shafts are pretty light, so they don't get as much tour usuage. Lowpro
true temper x-100,s-300, rifle, rifle project x, nippon 1050, and graphite irons> aldila nv 130's, mfs 115's,ust harmon tour designs.. seen these in all profiles of pro's bags.. true temper makes a great priduct and just may be better known out on the us market.. all shafts mentioned are very well made.. just a factor of what works etc.. :atsg_smilie_bomb1:
taylorguy
to answer your question, there is a new shaft from true temper called the dg tour. it is in some of the biggest names on tour with quick swing speeds. very stiff butt and very stiff tip (promotes boring flight). problem is that it is only for the tour right now not general public. tour van only !! dorkman53
The more fundamental question is, "Should I be playing what the pros are playing?" If you are a scratch or plus index player, it might be worth knowing what they are playing. For the other 99% of us, playing what the pros play is more likely to cost us strokes than improve our games. They play on such a different level than mere mortals like myself that knowing what they are playing should be an exercise in curiosity and little else for most of us. the1stunner
Holy crap Dubbed- what is your SS? X300 shafts? :tsg_smilie_confused: Isn't that a little soft, I would try the XX800 if those feel a little sloppy. :tsg_smilie_cool: Anyways, If you guys want to play a shaft that is as consistent as those on tour check out these: Tour shafts
