J-Spec Shaft Reference Guide

I've put together some useful info on how different J-Spec shafts perform.

This chart can be used as a generic guide to give you an idea on each shaft's characteristics.

People always ask about finished CPM and spin and so on so here's some info.

The data is from earlier this year so it's missing a few newer shafts, but I'll try and update it as I get more info.

Great info....must've been tough to keep regripping...."using the same 51 gram grip" :)

I was looking to pick up the PT7 X after experiencing that the PT6 stiff is too soft. Looks like it's a good thing I didn't get it.

Why do you say that? The PT-7 X CPM is 15 higher than the PT-6 S and with a bit less torque would definitely feel stiffer. Is it the lower launch angle? What did you end up going for? :tsg_smilie_smile:

I was looking for something around half a flex stiffer than the PT6 and maybe a tad less spin. I already have a lowish flight but spin the ball quite a bit, I tend to cast the club when I'm off.

The PT7X is still there in the proshop begging for me to buy it already. I was going to put it in a HS9 that I have been eyeing, but so far reshafts have not been good in that comp head.

I'll waiting for the Sumo to be out then. About 5 guys have played it and have said it is worth the wait.

Keep up the great posts. We need contibutors like you on this site.

Thanks for the compliment. I've come to the conclusion that when it comes to J-Spec gear like that it's all about education. We learn a lot on this site which is why we can make purchases a lot of the time without even seeing a product up front. Hopefully any info I post on this forum can help members make choices suited to their playing style and swing. :tsg_smilie_cool:

Thank You for the info,

I hope the members here can use it well.

We here about the mantra of High Launch and Low spin, but the PGA Tour is using alot of Radar based Launch Monitors to measure carry distance AND Angle of descent. It is this combination of maximum carry and optimum angle of descent that produces the maximum distance for any initial launch conditions,

ie Ball Speed+Launch Angle+Spin

People say "High launch, low spin" but don't know what it really means. For 90% of golfers, mid-launch and the right amount of spin will produce the longest drives.

Tom Wishon was quoted in the December issue of Golf Digest that the optimum range for angle of descent is 35* to 42*, with 40* being a good target. However, he tested on a tournament ready track, using a Trackman. I don't think most muni tracks are set up to roll like that track.

Could you explain this?

Graphite Design Tour AD PT-5___Stiff___53.4___49.9___5.8___254___15.4___2338___30.6

Graphite Design Tour AD PT-7___Stiff___72.3___67.5___3.4___267___15.2___2347___39.9

The shaft with more weight, lower torque, higher CPM and lower launch-Apex's almost TEN yards higher???

What swing speed was used for the test?

Cheers

ICE

Hehe typo! It's in fact 29.9. I thought I had made it through typing out all those numbers without making a mistake. Swing speed was between 95-100 mph.
