plus1
Guys i have carrying out a comprehensive test between a number of sets of irons for the last 2 weeks or so. Comparing Looks, Feel, Playability, Workability, distance and confidence. The following irons were in the line up - i will give them one more full session together and then tell you my thoughts! enjoy

Bat
Any update so far? Also, how would you compare type S or type X to the mix? Thx Bat
Phillip Alexander
Hey plus 1, could you take a photo of the 3 Gauge clubs at address side by side and say the Scratch. As I explained in another post I saw the G-Field NC1s at the Ladies Aussie Open on the weekend. Beautiful clubs, just a little too small in the head for me. I'm actually starting to move towards the mid sized models.

plus1
Not a joke no - My intentions were only but good at the time i made this post - However with poor weather in ireland and a very hefty work load, which i am committed to - I have been playing no golf. From a few short sessions at the range i would list the irons in this order for overall feel / forgiveness and performance 1. Handmades 2. FCB 3. Scratch 4. Tourstage VIQ 5. G Field NC1 6. Miura
ranghips
I know how you feel Plus 1, but cheer up the weather will improve soon and I for one am really looking forward to your full evaluation! Nick
sfgolfer
I've got to tell you - even against that company those Scratch AR-1s look fantastic. Keep us updated +1.

Miura 301 Wow - thanks for finally coming up with some results I'm somewhat surprised of your test results so far though. The two irons sets I would have thought would be number 1 and 2 are dead last Looking forward to the final conclusion when the weather in Ireland gets better - here in Denmark we are slowly approaching the two digit temps (in celcius) I've been playing twice a week in golf simulator every week since November and have had red scores the last 12 times I've played (no mulligans and gimmies from 1 meter, putting sucks on indoor simulators)- so my expectations for the upcoming season are HIGH ! I know golf simulators are not the real thing - but it helps me feel like I'm playing golf all year round - and my scores on the real course benfits a great deal from this - and I think it's good fun to play in golf simulators, because I'm also a computer geek Will probably start playing outside for the first time this year in two weeks time..... These are the results that i have come up with, and what suits me and my eye and remember that my acquired taste may be totally different from what you look for! However i do strongly believe that with the smallest amount of research and reading of previous posts these results should have been apparent from a range of members! Blader-X
Thanks plus1. Your input on this forum is always appreciated especially since many of us know just how many different clubs and shafts you've hit over time. Always a pleasure to read your posts. I feel for most of you where weather doesn't permit golf to always be played. I consider myself very lucky to only experience frost delays of an hour or two and not of weeks or months due to snow/ice. Hope the weather improves soon in Ireland and your work schedule calms down so you can get back at it on the links. I hope one day I'll get see your beautiful country. The two irons sets I would have thought would be number 1 and 2 are dead last Scratch are made from 1018 (the softest steel used to make irons) - why are these results a surprise
+TourSpecGolfer
1018 is soft but it goes way way softer than that, there are even castings softer than 1018 in regards to hardness rating. The reason why more brands do not use 1018 is because it produces less spin than harder metals and it bends quite easy, In my last visit to Japan i was able to hit a 05C steel which was very soft but it felt like it bent at impact with the ball. I guess there is balance that has to be made between the playability and hardness rating. You guys may not be aware of this but there are many versions of the AR-1 style head not only from scratch as they have the 3 custom grind models, but Geo Tech Japan and Nano Power Japan also have similar models, not sure if those are done up in 1018. If there is a metal expert here let me know if FE99.9% is the same as saying 10.01C???

This sounds correct and logical, Chris. Soft carbon steel is nice and smooth - but it can also be too much of the soft stuff. We all have to make up our mind whether we want super silky soft irons that will bend too easily or somewhat harder, but still soft, carbon steel, that will feel a bit harder when struck. It's all a matter of sacrifice......
acrazygolfer
Talking about softness, I don't what composition of steel is in the Milled MBs but them irons are soft. I don't think I can go any softer.
