Phillip Alexander
Guys, I was out watching the Australian ladies women's open. Couldn't help but look in most of the bags, and in particular the Japanese players bags. Finally got to see a set of G-Field NC1s in the flesh. These clubs are simply beautiful. The interesting thing for me was the head size is just a tad smaller than my current MP 11s. .....now I know everybody else on the site plays off scratch or better, and certainly 30 years ago Jack could nuke his 1 iron, however at 47 years of age I'm thinking mid sized could be a good option. Certainly there are many beautiful mid sized irons on the site, however they may have taken a bit of a back seat to the players clubs. Just my 2 cents worth. shoe295
Ah Jack I couldn't agree with you more. The older I get, and I'm rapidly approaching eligibility for the US Senior Am., the more I think I need to go to a more forgiving clubhead style. But for some reason my ego, or is it testosterone, gets in the way and I tell myself "pshaw, I don't need no stinking cavity backs" even tho I know I would play better with those on my off days. And I have off days more now than ever because regardless of my mental state their are days my body will not do what I want it to do because it can't anymore. I think this may be the year I switch just to see if my game gets better, or at least more consistant. And their are a heck of a lot of nice mid-sized CBs on the market today that are both attractive and exceptionally playable. But then again, this could just be the ramblings of a tired old man living in the glory days of years gone by.
acrazygolfer
Gentlemen ... could it simply be that the bifocal is playing tricks on us as we get older and therefore the clubhead appears smaller. I'm holding in my left hand the NC-1 3 iron and up close and personal, that thing is huge. Just kidding, Jack! You are indeed correct, the NC-1s are a tad compact and it's "butter" when hit on the sweet spot.
sfgolfer
I'm at the same place Jacky boy - except for me it's more about frequency of play. I just can't make it out enough to hit the ball the way I want to from the get go. If I'm going to be finding my swing for the first 4 holes, then my trusty blades are not the best choice. I almost need to bring two sets on a golf binge - big cavities for for day 1-3, blades for the final rounds! Wait a minute, that's not a bad idea... Hmmmm...an idea worth pursuing since I can no longer remember what I did yesterday the change in head size wouldn't even be noticeable as I will have forgotten what the previous day's club head looked like at address. And if my bifocals play tricks on me all the better. This idea bears the aroma of "genius".
Phillip Alexander
Seems to be a common thread through the thread. We are all old and don't play as much as we should. Youth is definetly wasted on the young. When I was 17...... ......played EVERY DAY including Christmas and expected to nuke the 1 iron. (4 iron is the least lofted in the bag now and that's looking shakie)
