EPON type-s or G-Field NC1

Hi Guys

I currently use callaway x-tours and find them very forgiving. I was just wondering out of the 2 irons mentioned above which would be best for a 12 HCP golfer. My handicap would of been a lot lower by now i would of hoped but i have had some serious sh@nkin problems for a while now so its not dropped.

I have hit the type-s but only a 3-iron unfortunately. It was shafted with a nippon 1150 tour which felt lovely and seemed forgiving enough especially for a 3-iron. Got the chance for a reduced cost set of nc1's so would like to know you guys thoughts

Thanks in advance.

I doubt the shanking is a function of your irons. 99% of the time it is a swing fault.

The NC- will be less forgiving than the X-Tours.

Yes mate i am the first to admit the shanking is totally my fault with a dodgy swing. i was just saying that if i didnt have these periods where i get the shanks my handicap would be lower than it is. High single figures i would guess. I am not blaming the equipment at all just wanted to know which of the 2 sets i mentioned would be best for a 12 hcp player.

Well, I have not hit the Epons, but have hit the NC1s. I'll be honest; the NC1s are nice, but I would put them squarely behind my backup set of Z101s and not even in the conversation w/ what I now play, Bridgestone FCBs. I found the feel to be very muted. Soft, yes, but clunky at the same time. No feedback. Given that, I suspect the Epons are a better choice.

i think i am right in saying that your bridgestone irons are endo forged in which case the epons should be similar if not nicer as i am told endo save their best steel and processing for their own epon brand. You do have some serious shaft combinations though which can obviously make a huge difference to feel dont you think?

Well, I bought the NC1s and had them shafted on satin Tour Concepts by Joe Kwok. As I was not enamored with them I had the identical shafts put into the Bridgestones to the exact same specs.

I don't care where they are made, who made them, what kind of steel was used; the Bridgestones w/ the same exact shaft and setup is in an entirely different league. I would bet if you hit them side by side as I did you would agree. Then again, if you shank a lot you are pretty far from the sweetspot so it may be tough for you to tell. I am a consistent ball striker w/ my irons and the differences are very obvious in terms of feel.

Just to add I am not sure if the Bridgestones are Endo forged, I just know they are superbly made and feel great. As for the shafts the key is of course finding what suits your swing. For me, the TCs are perfect, and I would agree that the shaft can obviously change the feel of the club.

The Z101 or any Tourstage iron for that matter feels better and is made better than any iron G-field has produced in recent.

Reason is Endo vs Dynamix.

When Gauge used Kyoei they were one step up, but when that ended they are now 2 steps down.

What you don't seem to have considered is the head weight. The NC-1 were designed with nippon 950's in mind, when you put a 130g shaft in them they are going to perform very differently. The USA Bridgestones were designed with the Dynamic Gold, for the US market, that shaft is a lot closer in weight to a tour concept than a nippon 950.

If you don't mind me saying it was a bit harsh on the comment about him being a long way from the sweetspot, if he's playing to around nine he's obviously not walking straight right after every shot he hits?
