JPX E500 vs 2007 VIQ iron

I have the Mizzy JPX (with NS Pro 1150)and my friend has the 2007 ViQ (with NS Pro 900). We have not had time to A/B them yet.

Before I got my Mizzy, I was thinking about '07 ViQ forged. Really cant go wrong with either.

I bomb the ball high. I think ViQ is easier to hit. JPX and ViQ foreged about the same.

I am considering to switch to a new set of irons from X20 tour mainly looking for more forgiveness and feel. Can anyone please compare the two sets of irons? I have no problem getting the ball up so please also comment on their trajectory too. Thanks.

I've been testing out the JPX and quite happy with the feel and forgiveness. Trajectory with the NS Pro 950's were too high for my taste, even with the stronger lofts, so reshafted to Dynamic Gold SL's which did lower it quite a bit to suit my taste. Can't comment on the VIQ's as I have had no experience with them. I did have a set of X-18 Pros with DG S300's and trajectory of the JPX's with the SLs is a bit higher for me but not significantly. Like Forte says, can't go wrong with them- just get the right shaft for you.

I got ViQ Irons..

Tried it back and forth with the ViQ Forged and the ViQ is way way way easier to hit..

The feel is quite solid.. It does not feel like a typical cast iron (probably due to the rubber inside)

The ViQ iron is a game improvement iron but it does not look bulky at all.. it hides it quite well and the top line is reasonably thin for a game improvement iron (not as thin as my miura, similar to a Ping I3+)

As for ViQ forged, at address, it looks similar to a ViQ.. I was set on purchasing ViQ Forged but at the end purchased ViQ because i hit them better..

My friend, Forte, has just gotten JPXE500.. their size is very similar to my ViQ at address as well.. have to go to range and try them back to back..

Like the guys before you said.. can't really go wrong with either one.. just make sure the shaft is to you liking.. I think shafts play a big role in the flight of the ball..

Looking at the ViQ's online it is difficult to tell how thick they are. Could you compare it to a club from thr U.S. in terms of thickness or even send the measurement of the sole? Overall what do you think of the irons? I am looking to purchase my first set from Japan, but need a club that is forgiving. I looked at the JPX E500, but your post has me interested in the ViQ now.

chinkwan's ViQ's are the cast game improvement ones. While they are definitely forgiving and nice irons I would consider the 2007 ViQ Forged over these especially if they can be had cheaper... Premium Endo forged.

I did have some pics in this thread but they were compared to Tourstage Z-101's: http://forum.tourspecgolf.com/index.php?showtopic=24429

Hi Gocchin

I know alot has been posted about the Jpx e500 and the Viq forged irons.I am considering both these clubs

but which one would you consider more suitablefor a 18-20 hcp? Or are these clubs beyond me?

Thanks for any help or advice you can give to help me with my decision.

Hi swingit, welcome to the forum!

My handicap is actually similar to yours. Bottom line is we all golf for enjoyment and to hopefully get better so investing in a good set of irons that not only suits your current game, but can also take you to another level is always the right way of thinking. In this case, both irons could do the job for you. That said, the ViQ Forged is probably slightly more forgiving than the E500's. Both are forged by Endo and have good feel and playability. Both have pretty strong lofts which are the norm these days for many JDM sets. A lot of how they perform will be based on your shaft selection too.

Are you a good irons player? Do you strike the ball well? Either way you could play either of these irons for sure. It may just come down to your personal preference. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply! Think I might strongly consider the VIQs. Btw I see that you reside in Toronto,I used to live there for a couple of years. great city!

Hi, I really love the JPX look as well, and was wondering if they'll be too advanced for a 30 handicapper?

Hi there, welcome to the forums. They may be a little on the tough side for a 30 handicap. What are you currently using now and what else are you considering besides the JPX?

I'm currently playing an old set of Callaway Hawkeye with graphite regular flex. I'm pretty new to the japanese iron market, but have read that the epon type x is quite comparable to the jpx, perhaps a little bigger face? I was originally looking into the mx-25 irons before I found the jpx on this site, but have also read on other forums that the mx-25 might be too demanding for my current handicap. Do you have any other iron suggestions that I should look at? thank you for your help!

Hello,

I too was looking at the MX 25 when I was referred to this sight and became hooked on japan forged/made clubs. Goochin is a genius on clubs. You can always ask him and expect good solid advice. You may look at the Epon X or S types along with the Tourstage clubs. I just got a set of Tourstage 202's and love them. Softer, more forgiving, and better distance than my Titleist 804's. Probably won't ever go back to American made clubs unless some major revisions are made.
