gocchin
Choice Japan magazine decided to do some really detailed measurements of current model drivers. One of the measurements was MOI using an Inertia Dynamics Moment of Inertia Measurement device (all 60 models were measured on the same device for consistency). There's been a lot of talk and hype about MOI and how it affects forgiveness and performance of drivers. Here is a breakdown of the measurements for your reference. Phillip Alexander
gocchin, what's good, high number or low number??
kwantfm
Some interesting results. I'm surprised that the 430P measures higher than the 460. I'm also amazed at how high the MOI of the TM Burner TP is given its relatively traditional shape.

It was also interesting to see that the ERC Hyper has a lower MOI than all of the US Callaway models, including the 460. I know that the contstruction of the face can also make a difference, but the numbers are surprising all of the same.

+TourSpecGolfer
Most people will say the higher number the better, but this tool measures from the bottom of the face to the top. You will see in next years high MOI drivers coming from Japan bottom - top numbers as well as heel to toe readings, currently only Mizuno JPN is doing this. The higher the number can equal less head twist which can be good or bad depending on the type of player you are. For example in Japan pro's complained the Sumo Square was difficult to work or that they hooked it to much so Nike Japan has created the JDI SFI Sumo which is almost the same thing with a lower MOI reading. I would say higher MOI numbers are best for the average golfer or someone who simply wants to send it straight down the middle.

gocchin
thanks a lot for your information. Is there anyone know the MOI of EPON 460??? Apparently over 4200+ but that's toe to heel readings unlike the list here which is top to bottom.

If I put a hard swing on the Hyper ERC, I will hook it. But for a driver that is in the middle of the pack, the Hyper ERC seems stable enough.
