Mjr. D
Have a GD UT-85 in a Bridgestone J33 hybrid (18*) and i have a Matrix Ozik Altus Hybrid installed in a G-Field GFT 22* hybrid (bridgestone is nicer feeling by the way). Wanted to give you my thoughts on the shafts. Matrix is much harsher feeling compared to the GD. GD is buttery smooth. Both are very accurate. In my opinion, the Matrix appears to have tighter dispersity but that is definitely up for debate. I find the Matrix very very straight but very harsh feeling. You might want to weigh in your mind, how much feel you're willing to sacrifice for accuracy. I'll personally take the harsh feel for accuracy but this is obviously a personal opinion. It's extremely straight so i think it's worth it. I highly reccommend both shafts.
zeke-out
Just curious, what flex shaft is the UT and what flex is the Ozik? Thanks, Zeke

bjp1
I'm having the UT-85's installed in my Idea Pro hybrids today. Having hit the Altus HB extensively last season, I'm anxious to see how I fare in comparing the two shafts. Brian
Mjr. D
Ya i'm very interested in your thoughts as well. Please share them. I'm new to Matrix shafts and so far i really like the accuracy i'm seeing with them. In my opinion, you might like the Matrix hybrid more in a a 18* and the GD in a 22*.......it's a little softer and smoother in my opnion. I'm just debating whether to buy a F8M2 matrix shaft or a Diamana in a new component driver i'm making. Always fun, always worrysome. Haha. Let me know. daamartin
I use the UT95 (x) in two prgr driving irons and the results have been remarkable. Love these shafts.

What makes these "remarkable" in comparison with other hybrid shafts? Thanks!
Spoon
im in the same boat i have a gft 18* and 20* with GD ys-h 85 regular. is this the same shaft as the UT-85? my shafts cpmd at about 269 so it is playing more like a SR. i am getting an additional #4 and #5 GFT since i love them so much. Mjr. Diarrhea can you confirm if the 22*s loft is true to spec? im also considering what shafts to get for my hybrids but will try the graman ul540 hybrid shafts. those that have em swear they are exactly like the oziks at $40 a pop you cant go wrong. I put the Idea Pro/UT-85 S 18* and 20* through the paces, and have the following comparison to offer. Feel: UT-85 has more kick through impact, while the Altus HB is more one-piece in feel. Both are equally smooth in my opinion. However, the Altus did not mate well with the Idea Pro when I played it before. The UT feels better in this head. Trajectory: UT gets up quicker and spins more. The Altus HB got up, but flattened out. I'll hold more greens with the UT, but was longer with the Altus HB by about 5 yards carry. The UT-85 is providing what I needed, which was a higher trajectory with comparable carry to the VS Proto they replaced. I'll have to adjust to the distance loss, which is also about 5 yards carry vs the VS Proto. Overall I'm pleased with the purchase and they provide more confidence than the VS Proto. I will say that depending upon your needs, the Altus is a very fine hybrid shaft. I moved the shaft in/out of 4 hybrid heads, and excluding the Idea Pro, it was consistent in performance from one head to the next. I do recommend the Altus shaft, and the price is comparable to the UT-85. Regarding the other Ozik shafts, choose your flex wisely. They are sensitive shafts, and are excellent performers when they fit your swing. I've not been able to replace the distance gains I received from a Mizuno MX500/Ozik F-7m combination I played two seasons ago. The accuracy wasn't as consistent as I had hoped, but I could not overlook the 12 yard average carry distance increase. It was good to go from last to 2nd in driving distance in my regular foursome. Haven't been able to find those distance gains lately. Brian
Spoon
this is a very very helpful post as i have been experimenting with all sorts of hybrid shafts as of late. i too am debating weither to get the Ozik altus or the UT-85. i have 4 hybrids on the block now all gfield 18/20/22/24. i will take 2 at most at any one time maybe even 3 depending on what course i am playing but my money clubs are the 20 and 22. the 18 and 20 are shafted with the YS SERIES hybrid shafts 85g. they have a nice buttery soft feel to them, it is mid launch and has a distinct feel at impact. on my 22 is a cut fw speeder 759 that has been tip trimmed 1/4" to bump up the cpm to 270. this by far is my favorite hybrid shaft. nice kick to it and best feeling overall. id like these on all my hybrids if i had the chance. on the 24 is a mizuno exar tourspec shaft that is extremely harsh yet one of the straightest and most consistent shafts i have hit. looking at the ozik altus or/and UT-85 to play around with. daamartin
What makes these "remarkable" in comparison with other hybrid shafts? Thanks! Sorry for the late reply. Have changed from rifle steel 6.5s to the UT-95s and they are great wrt those because they feel great and still don't balloon into the wind - nice high strong flight. Just what I was looking for.
