Ah heck, who was I fooling? I could not wait until the weekend after yesterday's debacle w/ the rain.

So... left early again. Weather was great today.

I'll cut to the chase. The Epon logo 460 driver is on the PT6, same as my beloved XD435. I have to say they are equally as long. The Epon feels more solid to me, and the Tourstage has a less distinctive feel at impact. Trajectory again is about the same. Perhaps I could make more specific comparisons if I threw down a few dozen brand new balls. But I cannot declare one better than the other after only one range session. But it does reaffirm to me that I have never hit a "better" driver than the XD435.

As for the new AF-201 three wood, that is a different story. First off, big thanks to Ajaykkr for being the first to recommend to me to try the Quattro Tech. What a shaft. Finally, a three wood that I can hit with a great trajectory - shooting out low and climbing up with that nice little balloon at the end. Touches down soft. I rocked it off of a low tee, and after hitting one worm burner off the deck I dialed it in and crushed a few downtown. Every time I play and am needing a FW wood I pull the 5 as I am very consistent with it. But not anymore... at least when I need more distance. I was extremely straight with all of the shots, and for the first time I can see myself hitting the three off the teebox instead of driver, which I have never done before.

Money well spent, especially on the three wood. It will make a positive difference in my game. And I'll continue to work the drivers and certainly play the Epon to see how I do with it in real action. Thanks again Chris!

Remember too, the driver, having such a different feel sometimes needs an adjustment period. Good thing is you know that PT-6 inside out!

When I first got my Epon driver I too was hitting a TS driver. I am a big fan of TS in general and especially their drivers.

Seems I had the same feelings as you after one range session.. not sure if it was all that much better (Epon).

To make a long story short, I think you'll find the Epon a bit more forgiving out on the Golf Course where it really matters. Once dialed in, it will be hard to go back.

The 3 wood (or any Epon FW) with the QT shaft... no brainer. Best combination of club head and shaft on the planet. IMO.

I will second that..... after you have played several rounds, you will find the accuracy and the forgiveness of the Epon will have you keeping it in the bag when its crunch time..... thats when "better" is defined......

got to test the af 301, 501 and 701. the 301 is so darn beautiful. simply lovely. the 701 looks totally different it is bigger and has a more clicky feel. i can see the 701s being the perfect game improvement club. epon designed this well indeed cant wait to try the new drivers

Ajaykkr and IDrive I think you guys are definitely right. Playing w/ a club is very different than pounding it on the range for a while. The Epon is in the bag for the remainder of this year's rounds. I have only played 6 times this year but hope to get out as much as possible the next few months. Love autumn golf.

I surely am not at all disappointed w/ the Epon, and although I did not write it before I do sense more forgiveness. I hit one ball w/ it off the toe that just went dead straight. I think it will be a great performer for me in play.

As for that three wood... whoa, nellie. I can't wait to start hitting it during play. I have not for the longest time. It was like playing w/ 13 clubs but still carrying 14!

It has brother. And I do agree with your theory. That's why it was easiest to stick w/ the PT6... I knew exactly what I was getting in that regard.

All I want to add to this discussion is that I'm now very happy with my Epon 460 + Roddio set up. I was disgruntled after the first few rounds (4 or 5), but I've learned to now hit it much better, and with a slight draw that I'm accustomed to seeing. With having done one minor swing tweak, I've gained another 10 yards or so with this stick.

I can't imagine playing golf without it. I'm glad I weathered the initial storm.

I was disgruntled after the first few rounds (4 or 5), but I've learned to now hit it much better, and with a slight draw that I'm accustomed to seeing. I think perhaps I "broke in" the shaft. Anyway, I'm glad I stuck it out. I love it, and would change it. Being that the new Epon drivers are basically the same, I don't think I'll need to get a new model. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?

kawiks i am still weathering the storm. its a see/saw battle for me. i havent given up though as the driver is still in my sig.

Stick with it, and experiment with the other shafts as you've been diligently doing. You WILL find one that works for you.

thats my plan, iwill do a little experiment and put the roddio in an ercIII head. i have had my best driving with that head regardless of the shaft.

The biggest variable is always the swing.

With lessons i'm learning to hit any driver down the line 2* open with X flex or 2* closed with R flex. The key is sound fundamentals and the ability to diagnose and break down the swing's compensation and flaws or the necessary adjustments. Only when its physically or mentally impossible to for a player to make the proper move should they consider drastic equipment changes like face angle adjustments.

I would like to see our members focus on understanding the swing before ordering custom face angles. But the option is always on the table for those who would rather tweak gear than to put in blood, sweat, and tears on the course and range.
