teb92
Hello, I am hoping that somebody might be able to point me in the right direction. I have been playing with 2 SCRATCH custom wedges for about a year and a half. I ordered them from Ari with NS Pro 1050 shafts. After some experimenting with my other irons and the advice of an expert clubmaker, I swithched everything to DGX100's. 2 main reason's: the heavier shaft weight and the reduced spin. My iron game has never been better, since the shaft switch (the irons are MIZUNO MP-11's)and I have retained the soft but crisp feel of my Mizuno's. The problem I have with the wedges, is the lack of feel; full shots and around the green. With the NS Pro 1050's these thing's were SUPER SOFT, but I was hitting them way too high and they had load's of spin. The clubmaker suggested PX's, stating they would have better feel with the reduced height and spin I need, plus they would have the heavier shaft weight. I have heard that MIURA's also feel better with PX's. If anyone has had similar experience's and could offer some advice, I would really appreciate some suggestions. Thanks, Tommy

Thanks, Tommy I would never consider X100's in any forged head wedge; especially 1018 forging from Scratch. I had my 2 scratch wedges built with PX 6.0 shafts @D5 SW providing with plenty of feel and trajectory control.
+TourSpecGolfer
There is nothing wrong with X100 shafts, Main thing is that its the optimal shaft for your swing. S400 across the board is the most popular wedge shaft around. I suggest giving them a try.

I suggest giving them a try. Thanks for the replies! I will go ahead and give them both a shot. I initially scoffed at the idea of the X100's, but gave them a shot anyway. So far, I have increased consistency/accuracy and gained about 8-9 yards with every iron. I remember reading some post's, stating PX cpm inconsistencies i.e; shaft playing more stiff than the flex suggested. When ordering the PX, should I order say the 5.5 as opposed to 6.0? 6.0 instead of 6.5? I do hit mainly full shots with my 54* and delicate shots with the 60*, so maybe the 60* could be tipped soft etc. One more question for tourspecgolfer though. Currently playing and loving my 905S: 9.5* @ 44" long, D2-3SW coupled with a Fujikura 757 tourspec X-flex(7.2 on rifle scale), but it is getting worn out. Have a few suggestions? From the TSG Pro Shop? Thanks again, Tommy
Blader-X
True Temper Black Gold is by far THE best shaft to go in a wedge I've ever used. More feel than any of the above choices put together. Yes, I feel that strongly about them. I used to have nothing but X100's in my wedges. Have tried the S400's and Nippon 1150's in wedges as well. Black Gold beats them all hands down. Oh, and the trajectory is just optimal. On the lower side with great spin to keep down out of the wind. No balloon shots. mike72clark
I would suggest that you remember that with wedges you don't tend to hit them full the vast majority of the time. As a result i would always recommend that you play a softer and slightly heavier shaft in your wedges for feel purposes. I always played 6.5 rifles in all my clubs, now i have 6.5 in my irons and 5.5 spinner's in my wedges and these give the feel/feedback i'm looking for in my wedges. I If you are going well with the X100's in the irons i would go S300 in the wedges, if i was you.
teb92
Thank's once again! I will go ahead and add the black gold's to the order. Blader-x, do you have the BG's in your iron's as well? If so, have you been equally happy with them? I just happen to have a set of Hiro Matsumoto's on the way and will be looking for some x-stiff shafts to put in them. If anyone has a favorite shaft for that brand, please let me know. Tommy No, I have Nippon 1150's (x-stiff) in the irons which I like very much. However, back when I changed out my wedge shafts to 1150's as well, I found I didn't like them in the wedges. I did go down in flex to stiff, but I found the trajectory not to my liking. Later on I decided to give the Black Golds a go and literally found nirvana with them as far as the wedge game is concerned. Trajectory was lower, dispersion tighter and distance control better. I have thought about making the entire set Black Gold's and even maybe just the 8 and 9 iron but have yet to act on it. The 1150's are doing just fine in the current set. I'm happy with them and if I did make a change it would be just to see. Who knows, they could be better for me? I willl say that I like my current set up very much and am hesitant to do any substantial changes at this time. B
