I'm looking to reshaft my Epon Type J's. What do you guys think are the shafts to choose when the objective is to preserve the natural feel of the clubhead as best you can? I know installing different shafts produce different results so you could argue there is no neautral shaft, but what shaft do you guys feel is least likely to rob one of feel. Nippons? Black Golds? Tour Concepts? Dynamic Golds? Project X? The Type J's are arguably the best feeling irons out there so i want to make sure i don't mess that up.

well thats a tough question and can be subjective at times. ae you talking about feel alone or ballflight? for me i cannot separate the two and at times one can influence the other. feelwise imho i would say the best feeling shaft for the type j would be the nspro 1150. i have at one point had the js shafted in 1150, 950 and Bg. the nspros feel the best but wasnt to happy about the ballflight. now the black golds are the perfect combination and compromise of both.

your opinion of the shafts i mentioned could be different though. now if they could make a shaft that could feel like the nspro 1150 yet had the ballflight of the BG that would be my ultimate shaft.

My friend 5iron speed 95 mph. He favor ns.pro.1050 X very much. He change from DG x100. Anyway NS.PRO1050 feel lower balance than DG SL.

the nippons had a very high ballflight. too high for my liking but the feel was superb. as buttery as you can get. both were the same flex Stiff. if your looking at something similar to graphites you cannot beat the 1050

The Scratch guys, who are OBSESSED with feel, use the Aerotech Steelfiber shafts. You may want to try one out in a club or two :) HTH.

Of the heavier steel shafts I think the 1150's will give you the smoothest feel... it is the lowest ball flight of all NS Pro shafts. Another option is the Nippon Super Peening Blue... around 130g each and a high kick point for lower ball flight. If you want to go all out then get graphite like Graphite Design Tour AD 115 or Pro's... I am discovering that Graphite rocks with Epon... it's a monster combination and I have never felt anything smoother and people who demo my irons agree. With the technology these days in graphite you even see lower handicappers putting graphite in blades. Minibon (one of Japan's top golf equipment bloggers) just put Graphite Design Tour AD 105's his new Miura MV-5003 blades and said it was the best feel he had experienced in years....

any reviews on the super peening blue shafts? i currently play the 1150's but was looking to bring my ball flight down some...looks like they might be worth a try.

I'm still stuck on the Black Golds.

Medium ball flight, NO ballooning. I get great feel from the club head. not the shaft.

I think what I like the most is the consistency. When I'm swinging a good smooth tempo swing it seems

the ball travels the same distance every time.

I strongly suggest you try or look into the Super Peening (Blue) from Nippon. I just had them installed in the Muira CB-202 and could not be happier. Feels like butter. I have has the 1150 GH Tour and they feel nothing like the Super Peening (blue). However, they are not as light but they do produce a lower ball flight. I have a super high ball flight and I am just simply amazed how much these shafts have dramatically lowered my ball flight. These shafts weigh about 125 grams. You can look into them and their specs in thier website. wwwnipponshafts.com. I am not really sure if that is their website.

In conclusion, one of the best shafts I have ever had. My handicap index is 1.4 and I am very picky about my golf equipment. I would never recommend anything that I do not feel strong about. You can also look into the Shimada AC steel but they do not produce a lower ball flight than the super peening (blue) by Nippon and they are lighter in weight.
