Posted November 23, 200717 yr My favorite hybrids have been the a2ts and the idea pro, looking to try something new, especially in the JDM flavor. Any suggestions or experiences?
November 23, 200717 yr If you are looking for something that is more of an iron type hybrid, you should give consideration to the new, or fairly new, Tourstage x-blade UT. I got the #4 yesterday and only had a chance to play 18 holes total with it, but I really like it. Wonderful feel, medium-high trajectory and sets up great for me. I am going to get the #3 and see if they have a #5. Distance, same shaft, also seem to work well with the new Tourstage 2008 x-blade irons (5-PW) that I got at the same time. Randy
November 23, 200717 yr I seocnd the X-UT in NS Pro 950. I think the stock steel is too heavy and the graphite too light.
November 23, 200717 yr Tourstage X-UT is a popular one and I would also take a look at the OnOFF Fairway Wing; both are available in a 21* model. If you are looking for an iron like hybrid, a few different Fourteen clubs would fit the bill, as would the new Tourstage utility iron. EDIT: Randy I was talking about the X-UT earlier, I missed the X-BLADE utility bit. Edited November 23, 200717 yr by K2_2
November 23, 200717 yr Not JDM flavor, but the best hybrid for me has been the Bobby Jones hybrid. I think I tried most of the USDM hybrids + the Fourteen 858 and 660, the PRGR Zoom's and the Tourstage (not new model, previous model). The Bobby Jones performs best for me, very versatile....tee, fairway, and rough.
November 23, 200717 yr Thought I saw a #2 and #3 X-Blade UT in the shop I bought the #4 at. Checked the PRO SHOP and it looks like the #2 is 18, the #3 is 20.5. Might be I am not seeing something quite right though. Randy
November 23, 200717 yr A lot will depend on what kind of a ball striker you are. If you're a good lower handicap player, almost nothing beats the Royal Collection Td+, small compact head, iron like profile and long and workable... there is a reason why many tour pros carry it. It's like a more compact hotter version of the X-UT. Otherwise the X-UT is also a good choice, low piercing trajectory and takes the left side out...
November 23, 200717 yr i will second gocchin's recommendation..... i have tried them all.....nothing beats the td+ if you are a good ball striker........thats what stayed in my bag... the td.... (older version) is good too ...a bit more forgiving than the td+.....
November 23, 200717 yr Many people at TSG also like G-Field GFT Utility a lot. You should also consider it.
November 24, 200717 yr i echo the sentiments on the X-UT. I have the #2 and #4. The NSPRO utlility shaft was pretty good but wanted something better and installed Ozik Altus XCons in both. It's a very solid club from the fairway and off the tee. it does take out the left side but won't stop those deadly pull hooks I'm trying to fight. I have these Nippon shaft pulls if anyone is interested.
November 24, 200717 yr Author Thanks for the replies so far, how the TD+ seems similar to an idea pro hybrid. Is that a somewhat accurate assumption? if so, I'm very interested in trying it. Also looking at the X-UT. Excluding other factors, which head will hit higher, x-ut or td+? Thanks. I just realized I'm well on my way to a JDM spec bag, need to find a good replacement for a superquad.... heh heh... Edited November 24, 200717 yr by EdChoi
