I think these look very nice but a little clunky. I like to minimal offset yet the CG looks very low and forgiving.

Funny you say that B because I agree the XCB08 looks forgiving, yet they are actually the opposite, its for sure a man's man type of iron. I agree with what Randy said in another post, not that forgiving, easy to work, and pretty darn close to a blade if ya ask me.

It's definitely for a specific crowd... low handicappers and great iron strikers... the compact size and minimal offset is definitely something certain players will like... like AJ or B (Blader-X).... (^_^)

Doesnt it remind you to the AF701 without the undercut? I am sure the forgiveness would be day and night.

Similar, but like you said, day and night in terms of forgiveness for sure. Looks like a nice blend of the 04 and 06 X-Blade CB with the trapezoid indent in the cavity for some forgiveness. I think the design makes sense. I gamed the 04 model for a season before switching to these Type S. The 04 irons had too much offset and the sole was a bit too wide for blade like cavity back. The mass in the trapezoid of the cavity didn't help it's forgiveness very much either. The 06 has a nicer address profile for a blade lover but not very forgiving at all. It's more like a muscle back with shallow cavity. You might as well use a blade IMO.

I haven't hit these but the 08 model looks like a winner. It has the offset and sole of the 06, top line similar to the 04, and a cavity design that looks as forgiving as it gets without compromising feel (deeper cavity than the 06, heel-toe weighted with some "meat" behind the sweet spot, and no undercut). I'm sure being forged by Endo doesn't hurt either. It's probably too much club for me, but I know these will keep popping back into my mind if my game ever get better. :tsg_smiley_heart:

I'm curious about the inner magnesium alloy though. How much lighter is it than carbon steel? Is it mainly for vibration dampening or for more forgiveness? I guess I'll have to try this when I get a chance.

According to Tourstage Bat, the magnesium is mostly for feel, impact absorption and soft feel on contact. I think it's a nice looking iron, satin would be pretty!

Chris,

How would you compare these in feel and playability to the Epon 301's and Miura 301's?

Do these have a higher ball-flight?

Do these have tungsten in the long irons like other Tourstage sets?

I like a blade or blade like CB with a really low CG for a higher ballflight.... and always have been a fan of Tourstage.

I want to order a set of one of these asap.

Thanks

There are no tungsten inserts in these irons but CG is placed really low instead to promote higher ball flight. Quite an increase in MOI over the 06' model according to TS, not that we could tell the difference! These may have slightly higher ball flight than the epons but a lot will depend on shaft choice as you know. Chris can probably confirm shot trajectory.

Pretty heads nice lines and also as some has said it would look good in satin finish. Interesting but they dont look to bad but it looks like you have to hit them pure. Good club
