DC003
As much as I love the look on the pictures posted in this board, I just can't pull the trigger when it comes to investing in wedges I have never tried before. Call me crazy if you will but wedges and putter are the most personal items in my bag. Here's my story. I am a weekend golfer (not by choice) for half a year. On average, I drive 275-280 yards, my 6 iron is only about 180 yards. Distance most of the time is not a great concern of mine (well I only play the blue tees). An inexperienced golfer, with no mental game and has a natural draw. When it's all said and done though, my inconsistency killed me this past season. A clear example is one day I shot 104 at Copper Creek and the next day I shot an 81 at Angus Glen (south course). Well I have shot in the 70s as well but those were more or less flukes. I am like a guy who can spin back a 6 iron or stop it to the dime and also be able to scuff 10% of my shots due to tardiness. The only clubs I relied on are my wedges. I carry 3 wedges in my bag right now. I know my GIR isn't all that high mostly due to mental mistakes, misaligning myself or misjudging the wind. Wedges are what I need to get up and down with. I would really want something soft. I practice my 60 degree wedge on a daily basis for at least half hr. I wouldn't say my wedges fit me perfectly. I just got used to the 3 vokeys I have but definately looking for a change. My 56 degree wedge has 14 bounce on it. Heck. I only use that club when i am in the bunker. A complete waste due to my noobness at the time of purchase. I am around the Greater Toronto Area. Unless I can try wedges out and actually hit them, I just can't purchase one in the dark. Asthetics is one thing, but the feel is so important. I really need to try them out. Last thing I want to do is to make adjustments for the club instead of having equipment fit for my liking. Most people think hitting it dead straight 300 yards is a great feeling. Not for me. For me, it's hitting a full gap wedge from about 85 yards and spin it back to pin high. I can seriously remember all the wedge shots that I hit within 5 feet to the cup. I can't explain the feeling but I bet you guys can relate. I am not too knowledgable about clubs or the game. I used to just buy what golfdigest tells me. As I suddenly got really into it this year, I am looking for the absolute best. I am in the right place right? I get all confused when you guys talk about the type of material the clubs are made of. It's strange for me. I need to hit it and know that...hmm...you know what? This is it. Help! idrive
First off... WELCOME!!!!! How far is Gocchin from you??? Getting properly fit is #1 IMO. The Lie in particular. Are you a digger or a sweeper? What are the course conditions of the courses you play the most, hard/soft sand, hard/soft fairways, deep/light rough, etc. Many other factors... but I agree it's hard to make a decision with out hitting the club. So... we need to know everything about your playing conditions, swing and game to try and help. Edited December 6, 2007 by idrive
jacksonlui
i don't know but striping a 300 yard drive is pretty tops in my book. definitely would need to cater your bounce to your swing tendencies and course conditions. I'd get fitted from someone in Toronto, that's probably the best way. Other than that, people on forums can just speculate and make suggestions. Everyone is so different, you really need to know your own specs and then come to this forum and go crazy with purchases. Or if you have the money, just buy a bunch of wedges and see what works. That's just my opinion. I remember days where I spent lots of time reading and think that what I buy next will be the be all and end all. Not true, the only way is to buy and try. I believe that's what everyone does here. Some brands I'd look at are Epon, Miura, Chikara, Gauge Design, Yururi, MTI if you're into Japanese. There's so much. I'd look at TSG's pro shop, they basically carry all good stuff, made it easy for you. If you're okay with US stuff, vokeys, sonartech, yCutters, cleveland zip grooves are all good and save choices. like you said it's personal, you'd have to keep your buying decision personal as well. good luck
Duffer19
Jack: I think his point is that he wants to try different wedges before he takes plunge. It is not about getting fitted, it is about having a chance to demo all the exotic wedges first. I dont have this problem as I am a risk taker when it come to golf clubs. Hell, if it doesnt work out, we would just sell it right? Most here do not keep clubs longer enough to see it works anyway. jacksonlui
Duffer, you probably have a billion wedges at home, why don't you hook him up since you live in the same city.
xchangmanx
Yeah smashing a 300+ is pretty dam sweet and would for sure make my day... Anyway, I think that all of the stuff in the tourspecgolf proshop is pretty much "top of the line/high end" so expect to pay top dollar. Moreover, IMO check the buy sell and trade if you don't want to spend that much first. Alot of times, the guys here are looking to just make room in their closet and who knows, you might get lucky w/a really good deal. If you have really specific questions Gocchin is the man to ask. For me my wedges are also my fav clubs, and was in love w/vokey until I met SEIDA. Just a fantastic feel and precise.

Jack: You are talking to the wrong guy. I am a driver person, not a wedge man. R
