Hello.

I am wondering what kind of iron the tourstage z-101 is.

It looks like a CB but I'm not 100% sure.

Is it aimed for low, mid, or high handicappers?

If anybody used them before, please share your thoughts on this irons.

I tried to look for info on tourstage website, but it wasn't on the website(I guess it's an old model).

Thanks!!

The Z101 is a FANTASTIC player's cavity. That is, it is a cavity back iron designed for people that like the profile of a blade. In comparison to other cavity back irons, the Zs have a relatively thin top line, a fairly narrow sole, and relatively little offset. In as much, they are designed for the low handicapper who desires the forgiveness of a cavity back and the feel and workability of a muscle back. Did I mention that they are forged by Endo and are seriously SOFT! One of the best irons ever made IMO. Patrick

S,

Please see page 40 and 41 of my flickr photo album for detailed pics of my set. Which I still have if you want to try them. They are soft indeed and practically play and look like a blade from up top. One of the best looking irons still but too advanced for me which is why they sit.

They were a while ago from what I remember, they are great looking and thin topline and look like a blade. But you have to be pure with them, they dont give you a huge margin for error with ball striking. With Mizzy the closest club I coulde compare to cavity the mp-30 but maybe a mp-33 or mp-14 maybe thats hard to compare. But they are a good club maybe someone can throw some more at you with info.

TS is for pro/lower handicappers. and ViQ for mid/high while Beam is for high and beginners.

Is the z101 about mp 57 or 60 level?? or harder??

Thanks

No familiar with the MP line. I am still playing the Mizuno T-Zoid Pro 1 from years ago.

I wouldn't say that. As a confessed club addict I've had just a few of the following in the bag the last several years. Of late mizz 23's ,30's,60's , gauge nc1's, tourstage cbs, precept forged cb, srixon 506's. And what always seems to end up back in the bag are the 101's. Yes looks at first sight they are a little scary but after that first contact with the ball WOW! A lot more solid and forgiving than you would think.I bet you can't hit them once without becoming a fan.

Have you ever tried Miura irons??

comment_145733

I have tried the North American Miura blade with a regular True Temper S300 shaft. I thought they were really soft but you got to hit it right on the sweet spot or it'll sting. (if I switch to the Miuras, definately not going with a shaft like True Temper)

I am really tempted to buy those Miura 2008 MB-5003 blades from 5 iron - PW. I am just thinking every day if I really do have the swing to be able to use those blades. I find myself too much of a feel player. I am also a bit hesitant cause I am in the process of changing my setup. The tinkering just never stops.

I can hit the X-Forged pretty pure but even that seems like it has a large cavity in comparison. I don't know about these tourstage z-101...they look good as well. I would definately love to try them out. Gocchin, if you are around the GTA, I might as well get the clubs straight from you somewhere rather than getting killed by shipping and handling. (I mean if that's okay with you).

Hehe I am in the GTA but even I cannot avoid shipping and handling charges.... we will figure something out though. (^_^)

I played 3 sets of Z101's with 3 different shafts, including a graphite shaft, from the year it was first produced. I wouldn't say they are that hard to hit. I would compare them with MP-60's, which is pretty forgiving. After those 3 years, I returned to the MP-33's, but would still love to hit them again sometime. I shot a couple under par scores with them. I would say one of the best feeling cavity back irons. I didn't like the finish and markings(colors), though.

The first set had Flighted Rifles (a hot shaft at that time), the second set had Penley Graphite 105g shaft (don't remember model name, a hot graphite shaft at that time also), and the last set had S300. The rifles were a disappointment. Both the Penley and S300 were great in my Z101's.

The Z101 is one of the best designed CB's. If I were to design a CB myself, it'll be very similar to the Z101 (with better finish and simple markings). :atsg_smilie_roll:
