The "sound" of your Driver

As we all know different drivers produce sound differently. Some have "tink", and some "thwock", some very high-pitched, and some muted. Of course is all down to personal preference of which you prefer. I am very interested knowing what TSG members like themselves and the results will be interesting.

So which driver you are currently using? And what sound does your driver produce?

The sound of the driver is definitely important and for many is one of the factors affecting their purchase. A lot lot of people connect sound and feel as well. Drivers of all different shapes and materials make all kinds of sounds... while for some sound can make or break a driver as a gamer... for me if it's long and sounds loud as hell (hint hint emb), then I'm okay with it (^_^) I was always a fan thougn of the old Technity 460ZR/460 Forged... a soft kinda muted thwock...

I just can't get away from the feel or sound of Epon drivers, AF101 is my favorite but I also love the ZR460 of past.

The GeoTech Black Driver head also has a very nice muted thwack that I like.

Putting performance aside I am a traditionalist and enjoy a mute foamed head like the old J340.

I recently got a really good deal on a 6 years old R510 (non-TP). And it has the best SOUND that I have ever heard.

Ting~

I don't want to say the sound of a driver would in any way affect my swing ability, but I just keep hitting it solid. Great driver.

My gamer now is an FT-5 Tour, if you hit it low on the face, people within 2miles will hear you. It's a really REALLY loud high thwock.

But if you wanna impress your friends, get an EMB.

I have read a lot about Epon, and no doubt about the feel and sound it is capable!!

Once thing that suprise/draw my interest is that Geotech black, I actually fancy having a few hit at this driver!

Thanks C for your comments

Thanks for your feedback LC

your FT-5 Tour must be the loudest I have ever heard of, (and nice looking driver too)!! Feels like a bomber nearby!!

My favorite is the Epon AF-101. To me it sounds like a rifle shot. Very powerful but not overly loud nor tingy metallic. Its a very full sound if you know what I'm trying to say.

Worst driver I've ever heard is the Cobra LD series. It sounds broken.

I always preferred a more muted sound but have gotten used to the "tink" of the newer drivers. I loved the sound and feel of the J33 460. The new Tourstage drivers, especially the ViQ 460 (2008 model) are kind of loud but not obnoxiously so.

The best sound I've ever experienced was the origional Mizuno 300S. It was muted but very responsive at the same time if that makes sense. I also like the FT-5 myself; kind of like a wooden baseball bat. For me it's all about "proper" feedback; the driver can have many sounds as long as I can relate it to the quality of the ball strike. I do not like when the driver has a consistant feel even on mis**ts, nothing is worse then thinking you just smacked one to find it fall out of the air like a wounded duck! The sound is relative to the performance such as the Callaway product. The Mizuno above had more of a crisp thwack versus a dead thud if that makes sense.

I can't seem to find a driver that sounds better than my old Cleveland Launcher 460

That driver always had a wonderful feel and sound; one of the better drivers produced in the past five or so years in my opinion.

Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to test Epon products myself. Buy by you feedback, it really sounds like something special!!

When you mentioned it sounded like "broken"... do you mean it sounds like there's a crack in the head? or just not very well made?

The wooden bat sort of sound is what I prefer.

You are so right here, the sound, feel and the outcome has to come as a complete package, lack any of the elements mentioned above, then I wouldnt classified it as a prefect driver!
