gocchin
Yamaha just announced it's new 2009 lineup including all new drivers, fw's, utility, and V Forged irons. There will be 3 new drivers, 2 fw's, 1 utility and a limited Tour Model V Forged and the standard V Forged. The Limited Tour Model will sell out fast as this years did as it features a thin topline, minimal offset and a sharper toe. The new 4.6V r.p.m. is the Athlete version of their driver featuring a low center of gravity but a low spin design, what this creates is a driver that has a piecing trajectory with more roll out. Yamaha tests with a 100mph swing speed have shown a 5-6 yard gain over last years model. The new FW's look good too as does the utility. I'll post more info as I read up. I do have comparison pics of the V Forged topline and face but waiting for my scanner. (^_^)

Blader-X
Yamaha continues to impress w/ Inpres! Very cool looking irons but I think I prefer last years tour model to this years. Will need to see more pics before making that conclusion. . . T, Chris? Interesting design concept with the "FricOff" feature of the fairway woods. I take it this will help decrease "friction" with the ground therefore allowing for faster speed through the hitting area giving either more distance or preventing loss of such. gus
I want a set of tour irons too!!! Hell; I wanted last years set but they seemed to vanish before we ever had a shot at them...BB Edited November 5, 2008 by BigBen
Duffer19
T; I note that the new V forged (non tour) graphite is a GD tour AD 75 in blue now. Is this shaft the same as the old one and just a different color scheme? Edited November 5, 2008 by Duffer19
gocchin
Hi R, Yes same shaft, different color scheme. Last years v forged had the green Tour AD, this year the blue.
TBone
The best fairway woods I hit in 2008.....the Tour model, the regular model was very good too. I will be interested to see how they improved the 09 version.
TBone
I see that they introduced a new wedge also.
bogeydog
I see that they introduced a new wedge also. I need to try these also. Looks like the sole grind on the Epon KGX with less bounce.
gocchin
Here are some comparison pics of the V Forged (top) vs V Forged Tour. You can see the less offset, thinner topline and sharper toe of the Tour Model.
bogeydog
I noticed that the 2009 Inpres Forged Limited model is 2 grams lighter than the 2008 model yet appears to have more metal. I wonder of they changed the material somehow, or weighted them differently. Same shafts, grips and lengths. Any ideas?

Coming from you, this statement has me wanting to try one of the FW's. Does anyone know if it would be possible, at the factory preferably, to bend the lie about 2* flatter? J, I don't think the lie can be bent. I haven't seen Yamaha offer this option. Wow you play your FW's pretty flat! B, I'm not sure why the weight difference of 2g exists... I will research that. Wow you play your FW's pretty flat!B, I'm not sure why the weight difference of 2g exists... I will research that. ALMOST all of the 18* FW's have a Lie angle of 59*. Yamaha makes a 17* instead of 18* and the lie angle on that one is 58.75*. Again, almost without exception 59* is the Lie angle of most of the manufactures 18* FW. Fourteen's 18* (SF208) Lie angle is 57*, 2* flatter than everyone else. For me, this is perfect. They are pretty much 2* flatter on almost all of their FW's than everyone else. It is the reason I bought the SF208 3 wood a couple months back. I love the club and it sets up perfect. 2* may not seem like much but it's no different than someone that bends their irons 2* flat. (or up) I'd say just about as many of us bend or irons one way or the other, why not FW's? I'd like to try the new Yamaha but that extra 2* really does make a difference so will probably end up with the Fourteen.

I also wish more manufacturers would do lie on woods, 2* does really make a difference, you're right (I play my irons 2* flat) and I'd love all my woods flatter too. The lie can be the difference between making solid contact or not.
bogeydog
Jeff and G, I concur about woods, especially FW needing to be available in different lie angles. Being 5'-3" doesn't help me. The only extreme stock flat lie I have ever found is the PRGR M3 Hit Tour at 56.5. Perfect. If the FW is metal and not composite, likely it could be bent. Interesting that the JDM market demo tends to be shorter than the US demo however many makers aren't taking that into consideration. However, the Yamaha Inpres XV Forged Limited irons standard length (5I) is 37.5" which is 1/4" shorter than anything out there. The lie is still a little upright for me but I can bend with ho issue to 58.5 degrees. The new AF Tours could be an issue in that their starting lie angle is much higher.
