bogeydog
Ok today received the new 09 4.6V rpm driver from Yamaha. Fresh from release on Nov. 29th. Ordered with stock Fujikura Rombax 6Y09 stiff shaft. From what I can find, this is a profile built for this club which is characterized as mid launching with low spin and good roll out. The stock stats have this face at 0.5 degrees open. This particular model is the 10*. Looking at the club, I am amazed at the use of so many different surfaces. There is shiny metal, matt black, gloss black, satin black. I can't imagine what the finishing time was as this type of scheme normally takes quite a few steps. The finish in the pics looks less than perfect, but I am taking inside pics with overhead lights. I assure you that lights are reflecting everywhere. The overhead profile of the club is pure pear shape to me. The face is dead square however my stellar picture taken ability makes it look slightly closed. To me, the head looks on the smaller side which I prefer. The face depth is substantial and I would approximate it to that of the Epon AF1-101. The shaft color is black with the matrix hexagon design on the butt end. Tomorrow I hope to hit a few balls with it and have some initial feedback. If it plays as good as it looks, we have a winner here. PS - My new 2009 Yamaha Inpres XV Forged irons should be here Tuesday with newly installed KB Tour black nickel shafts. Thanks Goodsie. (More on his services then)
idrive
Looking at the face of the Driver has me feeling sorry for the Golf balls that are going to be pounded by it. Great look at set up.
gocchin
Definitely a very nice looking driver. Yamaha has done great in the last few years with their driver designs. They usually do perform as good as they look!
TBone
It appears that you now have the 2009 Yamaha driver and irons.....you have to add the fairway woods!!! The 2008 Yamaha i.f.f. Tour model fairway wood was the best fairway wood I hit!

I need something flatter and Yamaha doesn't offer it. I am concerned that bending titanium won't work or will break the club.

bogeydog
I reshafted this with a Ozik XCON5 stiff flex. The raw shaft CPM'd at 251. Goodsie installed it for me at 45". This shaft really woke up this head. What a nice difference. I have labored for some time over finding a use for the XCON5. Now this club really kicks. The kick is really noticeable. It seems as though the clubhead comes around hard at the last moment and stays on the ball for some time. It is very smooth. This is my first swings in more than 2 months so I had to work hard to get my swing sequence back. A good swing was rewarded very nicely. I especially was liking the great rollout with a nice high launch. Haven't been out on the course yet, but I am eager.
gocchin
B or Goodsie, do you recall what the hosel diameter was for the Inpres? Was it 0335 or 0350? Thanks, T
Goodsie
B or Goodsie, do you recall what the hosel diameter was for the Inpres? Was it 0335 or 0350? Thanks,T T, .335 hosel, 37mm deep, which is partially countersunk down in the head. Very stable setup and great use of the shaft of choice. bogeydog
I have had some course time with a new Ozik XCON5 installed. This shaft had a CPM sticker of 251 and was installed by Goodsie at length of 45", swing weight of D2.5 I think he said. Well let me tell you that this shaft has woken up a monster. The stock shaft was a Rombax 6Y09 stiff also at 45" and D2 SW. It felt somewhat dead to me and it launched too low. It was advertised as a mid kick shaft which I believe as true. The Ozik requires a good swing. It doesn't like out of sinc swings and doesn't reward over the top moves. I was quick to see low pulls. Being the first swings of the year, I was not surprised. After a few range sessions and actual course play, let me tell you that it is an accurate and long mofo. I came from a Epon EMB 45" with a stock stiff GD AD for EMB shaft. The EMB launch higher however had little run out. This combo launches slightly lower however carries as far yet runs out more. It is a great setup for wind play also. My natural shot is a slight draw and this shaft complies well. My miss is a push. Being the first time in an Ozik, I can say this was a calculated move that had great results. It kicks more than any shaft I have ever had and feels as thought the ball is sucked into the clubhead and shot forward. Cool stuff.
MHLY99
The Xcon 5 is a great shaft. I had it in a FT5. people are scared because it is in the 50s range but it holds up well. I played a stiff tipped .5 and my SS is 108-110. I have played many Oziks, TP7, X, Code 6, 7, Altus, Infra, etc. I really like the F6m2 and F7m2 I have right now. Solid and stable.
