Mjr. D
Hey guys, haven't been posting on here in almost a year. I've been reading a lot about the golf swing, as well as practicing a fair amount. Went from a two plane to a one plane guy. Anyway, just wondering, what wedge out there do you guys feel produces the most spin..... period. I've heard Epon, i've heard Gold's Factory, and a bunch of others. Thoughts please! Cheers. idrive
I'm sure you'll get a bunch of different responses on this one. IMO for flat out spin the Gold's Factory would be hard to beat followed by the Vokey JDM Spin Milled. Be prepared to have you ball ruined swinging harder than about 50% Welcome Back
Mjr. D
Vokey JDM more so than the Epon line? I'd love the Gold's but the price, at $500 a pop, is just outrageous in my opinion. Plus they only come in 52 and 58 degree lofts. And, ya, no doubt, i'll have to carry a few hundred extra balls! Haha. I'm sure you'll get a bunch of different responses on this one. +TourSpecGolfer
Yes some very good wedges came out in 08. The Vokey's are pretty sweet I must admit. Im talking about the JDM TVD's. The Cleveland Miura's were pretty awesome and if you like small the Tourstage Limited wedges were shaped awesomely.

Cool, how's the feel on the JDM TVD's compared to the Epons? I have the old Epon wedges. The feel of the X was outstanding, the only spin decent. The Technity spun it a ton but didn't feel as nice as the X. Where would you say the JDM TVD's stand when compared to the Epons? Thanks for the help! Mjr. D
Forgot to ask, as well, is there anything coming down the pipe that looks to be a superb wedge from Epon or any of the always good wedge manufactures?
idrive
Mjr. D If you're a fan of the Epon wedges you will love the new 208KGX Wedges. They are the next step up from the Technity and X wedges. They may not be the wedges with the absolute most spin, but still have more than enough and as much or more than any others. Thanks for the input. Not sure if you're familiar with the old Epon Technity wedge but that thin spun the ball a ton! Even if these new Epons don't spin it as much as the new JDM Vokeys, but more than the old Technity, i'll be more than impressed. I would assume Epon's feel is slightly nicer than the Vokey's..... idrive
I'm a HUGE fan of the Technity wedge. I have two sets that I wouldn't consider parting with, regardless! The new 208KGX spins just a hair more. Probably just a bit more versatile than the Technity's.
Mjr. D
Good to know. Do the different finishes make a difference to spin or feel? Which finish do you recommend?? Thanks man.
xxio
I never tried the older Epons but I have the 208 in the 56/copper finish. I game MT28 V3s and have for a long time. The strange thing about the Epons is that they don't feel like they are spinning much, like how the V3s do. BUT the results how me that they are spinning. the shots seems to grab especially towards the end when I expect it to take another but or small roll out but it doesn't. Maybe it is the KB Tour black shaft on the Epon? The 208 hasn't made the bag yet because I think it will work on lusher courses than what I generally play on. Bman
I have a set of the silver and the black. The silver is definitely softer. The black is harsher (relative) but sure look awfully good, especially when you have ball marks right in the center. Makes it easier to keep hitting it right in the sweet spot. They play the same, which, needless to say, is outstanding. Took me awhile to get used to the wider sole, finally did.
idrive
I figured it would be easy for you to decide which one to get.. just get both :)
Mjr. D
AHAHAHAHAH, actually, i've finally come to terms with the fact that i ought to sell off a lot of my equipment. It was fun but now it's time to get serious.............. with golf. I figured it would be easy for you to decide which one to get..just get both :)
xchangmanx
They are both great wedges. Softest for the kgx is the gold I believe... got mine shafted w/1150s and they spin a good deal. Winter time here in hawaii is perfect, its fluffy and wet; the kgx is a great club for 50 yrds and in. I'd buy Both lol

xxio
i think it is the shaft, i noticed that as well. with my px and shimada shafts it less noticeable. then again it could be just me getting used to the new wedges. i actually prefer the normal kbs shafts compared to the black ones, I know that the KB Black wedge shafts were intentionally designed to be stiffer than the normal chrome ones. IIRC the logic behind this was in most shaft sets the 9, pw, and all wedge shaft were all the same shafts. KB believed that because of the added weight in the wedge heads this would lead to "soft" wedge flexes. That is why the black shafts were designed to be slightly stiffer, a better frequency slope. Jury is still out because the bounce is a little high for the courses I play in (hard!!!).
xchangmanx
What do you mean "for 50 yards in"? Thanks. Hey Mr D, My experience is based off of the regular spin milled vokey, not the TVD. Softer conditions the kgx's bounce is really good for me. Plus on miss hits, the kgx is able to consistently spin the ball more than the vokeys. From 50yrds in to the hole is where my game goes from swing to pitch w/no release. (I don't roll my wrists on my 52*wedge shot) This is a low boring 2 hop stop shot. this shot will hit exactly 50yrds w/my 52* when I move my left arm to 9 o'clock and accelerate straight through w/no release. I can add/subtract couple yrds by by by doing certain things w/my legs and ball position... precisely why I play 52 58 60, these lofts work w/my swing and my short game yardages. (maru wedges would actually be great, I love the odd lofts) I desire low trajectory on all shots even my wedge shots and pitch shots and the kgx w/the 1150s can be worked low. Spin and distance from 50yrds in w/that pitch shot is really consistent. 30 yrds and in the 58* pulls back w/that same swing about 2 feet on avg w/a lower traj than other wedges I've tried, only the yamaha 08 wedges were as spinny and low... To me Vokey wedges w/TT shafts have an all together different feel and sound at impact and when going though the ground. I'd say not as soft and satisfying as the Epons but it is a very good feel and sound. KGX plays softer and very consistent after the break in of the grooves... Vokeys spin the ball more even after the break in period. I always carry a 60* vokey spin milled. The Vokey wedge is my 70-80 yrd full shot cuz it spins the ball so much I can push it low and really rely on it sticking once it hits. KGX wins hands down around the greens. Kinda detailed but I love wedge game. Hope this helps... Aloha, Tim Edited January 8, 2009 by xchangmanx

Me too, I have 52/56/60 in satin-S300 and love em. Can someone twll me if these old Epons are still legal under the new groove rules? Just looking for an excuse to buy new wedges really...
