Geotech New Classic Blade

So Geotech followed up the very popular N-16 Prototype blades with the new 2009 Classic Blade. They listed to feedback from customers and made the classic blade with softer lines and a satin finish with less offset than the NC-16. I have a set of 4-SW on hand, it's my first set of blades really and boy are they small compared to my AF-701!

For those who always say they want a no nonsense clean looking blade, this sure fits the bill. Geotech lists this as a straight neck but there is still some offset compared to say Miura or the 901's from Tourstage. These Classic blades are forged and made in Japan. These will be in the pro shop in the next few days and can be ordered as heads only or shafted directly from Geotech!

So here's a look at the whole set:

I have Mizuno MP-33, which I would never get rid of, and I was wondering how woud you compare this geotech new classi balde to MP-33.

The MP-33 is still a great blade. The classic definitely has more offset and is probably more forgiving. I'd say these are for the player who still want to play blades but are also looking for more forgiveness and are more budget oriented.

As for the offset, this is something Chris and I discussed... yeah there is still more than we would like there.

That is a sweet blade, clean looking. I wish I could play blades, If I could I'll be all over it.

I guess no need to start a "reverse offset" debate with you huh :)

Another JDM set with that type of design.

Haha no need for that on this set! (^_^)

Yup I have sold a couple of my older JDM sets and the buyer would ask why the PW looks new when usually the pw and other short irons would have the most wear. The pw used with the set were generally 47 to 49* lofted specialty wedges (usually Clevelands).

Maybe they should offer another set as a "US inspired design" with different offset numbers, all they would have to retool would probably be the 9i and pw.

They look like those +2MM TM Rac MB from address. Maybe perfect for those who play cut/fade and have difficulty hitting a draw. Gocchin, who forges these for Geotech anyway?

I will have a chat with their lead designer about this. We wish they would have consulted us sooner but this set was in the design phase almost 7 months before production.

It won't work. The long and mid irons show low offset. It is only the short irons/wedges that have the enormous offset.

Now I have recent and good pictures I can borrow each time someone brings up reverse offset vs face progression to show that face progression is different from reverse offset.

TSG,

This design concept seems to still be the norm in Japan. Since Geotech still sells 80% of their stuff in Japan it makes sense to keep the concept.

Quite a surprise to see a Japanese firm producing such a minimalist look. Shame about the shape of them though :tsg_smilie_blackeye: The shorter irons particularly look awkward, even a bit ugly at address..... one of the nicest iron head shapes i've seen for some time is the Royal Collection CV's

and not too much paintfill either.

Agree, PW does looked out of line compare to the rest just like my TM Rac Combo. Nice looking set of irons, but a little paint fill wouldn't hurt.
