supo
i had my own 3 wood battle royale yesterday epon af 202 , royal collection bbd type h.. tour edge exotics cb2., with a split decision ......., the epon had a fubuki alpha FW shaft , the royal collection 3w with the diamana blue 73x and and the tour edge exotics stock fujikura.. . i started with the epon, its the new offering and at 75000 yen i was gobsmacked. the balls had a dull thud coming off the face. slighty off centred hits were dreadfull and even the most beautifully struck shots lacked punch. bitterly dissapointing i hit them off tees and the ground and didnt like the epon one little bit. it sits much higher than the other two and the sole looks significantly higher and rounder than its counterparties which i thought would be a great advantage over the other two form the tees , but . bah booooow wrong.. it was the shortest and worst feeling by a long way. i hit the royal collectin next my every day bagger. its a smaller head ,slightly round base and a compact look. its really long ,really low, and really straight. love it , far and way a much better feeling club. next was the tour edge, which was my buddies. hes got 2 the other one was the XCG with the graphite design stock shaft. i found that one very hard to get off the ground (didnt like the GD shaft) , just a too low shot for my liking . the tour edge cb2 was last and joint winner (if not just ahead of the roy coll. ) the face is uber hot. the address is slightly up right leaning inwards looking (like the cobra lv4 look) the stock shft was beautiful the ball flight was mid high , good to land softly on greens and its long , i was really happy with it length and it had the least recoil ,( the face is hot!) the ball literally flies off this thing , i loved it. bagging it tomorrow for my first full round , prefect counterpunch to the roy coll low piercing shots ,the exotics was the easiest to hit off the fariway. and no less long than the roy coll. i rate both the roy coll and the tour edge as equals for differnt types of shots and i was shocked by how far the epon was behind the other 2 woods in both ditance and feel . for the price its an absolute joke. gocchin
Personally I am a huge fan of RC fairway woods, the athlete models do have smaller heads but the crisp but hot feel off the face is one i always love and this carried over to their more forgiving SFDIII model. Right now if I were to bag any fairway woods they would be either RC or PRGR which also have great pop. I haven't had any interest to try the AF-202... your feedback and the feedback of others so far don't make me more curious to do so. (^_^) The AF-201 was a superb feeling club but not forgiving. We'll see how the AF-202 fares as more feedback, both positive and negative come to light.

Thanks for your honest review. It's sad but I sorta agree with you on the Epon, The 202 ranks outside of my top 5 for sure maybe even my top 10. Yup RC does make a good product, not exactly long or forgiving but good feeling, consistent performance. and decent attributes make it very appealing. Chris, What would you consider your top 5 or even 10? I'm assuming the Egg is on your list...
Spoon
i am one of the few who appreciate the af202. i am using an HT and have found it to be the easiest FW head to hit. sound is fine and hits are solid. i guess to each his own, was struggling with the combo with the oban 85x shaft combo, now i placed a 65s machline fw and has been spot on so far. i have tried the egg 13* and could not hit this at all. i also tried the machline shaft in it and wasnt succesful. i also did not like the sound could never get used to it. maybe i would have better look with the 15*. gocchin
I haven't tried the AF-202 yet so I can't comment on it... but I've tried and tested at least 10+ other FW's and am constantly looking for something to knock out my 17* Spoon... nothing comes close and its still in the bag. I have not tried the 13* Spoon.. I just don't think that low a loft would work for me. It's possible the AF-202HT is the way to go... as for design, it is probably much more forgiving and gives a much better launch. I guess Spoon can comment on that. Have you hit the AF-202 non HT in comparison?

Have you hit the AF-202 non HT in comparison? i agree with Gocchin, people who want to try the af202 should try the HT not the non HT version. the non ht version for me was the same as the af201. honestly i could not tel the difference between the 2. with the ht , was able to pick the ball up as if i was hitting a 17*. it is very long and forgiving at the same time. could never hit a 15* thats why i gamed a 17* for so long, i never gamed a 3 wood before but this HT i will. this is the first time i am gaming all epon gear(except for my putter). i game what works and the HT and 210 wedges have found a place in my very discerning bag. ( i have a fubuki alpha in my superfast driver and i hit that very very well , so well thats its become my gammer over the last 2 weeks) ,but im not mad on the feel of the fubuki,i get good distance and good control (so i dont care what i think i think, if im hiiting anything that well then im going to be using it, reagrdless of where my supposed allegiances lie) its weirding me out. (compared to my other shafts the fubuki definatly is not the best feeling.) my guy said i like hitting the blue boards , roddios and the quadras so it wasnt a shock. so. i might add a caveat aboutht he epon in here , that maybe the shaft has a lot to do with the feel of this head. bec i was truly shocked by how far behind it was . but that fubuki shaft was designed entirely for the FWS so im baffled. all i def know was the blue board 4w RC and the tour edge performed out of their skin on sat. that tour edge is a beast! if anyone has played at old orchard,, the short par 4 16th.. 3 wood from back of the front tees. over the water onto the fairway just in front of the green 10yards off the dance floor ,mahoooooooooooosiive(!) i fell about laughing.. my partners werent so thrilled tho esp as one of them sold me that club...! I agree man, I was talking about not caring much for the standard 202 not the HT. The HT is pretty solid, good feel and more forgiving than most Fairways on the market. To put it bluntly and as Spoon said, leave the #3 to the HT not the standard version. The standard version is much easier to hit in #5 and #7 though. I suggest it with a DI-7 shaft, very good combo.
