shacco
I'm wondering if there is something like a compact headed pear shaped driver for the average player. By compact I mean something like the new Yamaha V201. It's compact but still maintaining a 460 cc volume (high back design?). Would the Tourstage 703 fit the bill? Any reviews on that one? You have to be careful about what pear shaped really means, some are often described as thus but (to me) really aren't. TS tend not to be (well to me anyway). The 901 is, the 701 isn't, although the 701R is supposed to be. Can't comment on the 703 as I haven't seen it. To my mind, and maybe heresy to say so on a JDM aimed site...... There is no finer looking pear shaped and compact looking head than the Adams Speedline Classic (Deep Faced and non DF) It hides it's 460cc very well and looks compact to me. Supposedly the just released 9046LS is very similar. Maybe a generalization but usually the deep faced drivers tend to be pear-shaped and also compact looking, as that is the look most 'players' look for. Good Luck and let us know what you end up with? Duffer19
The old Epon ZR460, if you can find one, would definitely fit the bill of a 460cc in a compact shape. For a readily available driver, probably the new JDM Titleist VG3 designed for the average players. As for Yamaha, wouldn't you be looking at the D201 for the average players rather than the V model? gocchin
corky is pretty right with his assessment of Tourstage drivers. The standard 703 is not big by any means but it is not a pure pear shaped but rounder. The 703 Limited is more pear shaped. The 460ZR was not only pear shaped it was and still is one of the longest and best feeling drivers made. Perhaps I should take the last one I have in the closet out and play it! Duffer19
You still have one, eh? I would never sell my last (3rd) 460.
shacco
You still have one, eh? I would never sell my last (3rd) 460. Well, it doens't neccessarly have to be paer shaped. I guess the emphasis is on compact looking. I've been thinking about the Yamaha D-Series. But The 2010 D201 seems so shallow which I don't like. I don't know about the 09 D4.6 version. I've heard the 09 Models are also longer. What would be a good shaft to match the D-Series?
gocchin
You still have one, eh? I would never sell my last (3rd) 460. Yeah I have 1 10.5* left and its a rare Hi Cor one. I think I will put in a Quadra or Crazy. Isn't your last one from me? Between the two of us we must have owned more than 10 of them. Well, it doens't neccessarly have to be paer shaped. All Yamaha drivers are know to retain the high back design which is why their heads are not stretched out and overly large like newer shallow back design heads of today. The Kamui is also like that as well, more compact at address.
Goodsie
The TourStage X-Drive certainly fits your description and is a winner when coupled with a quality shaft. "Out of my cold dead hands" is a quote from one of my customers that still games the X-Drive.

gocchin
Depends on which model. The standard 703 could and the GR models definitely will though the GR are starting to get a bit larger head size wise. Tourstage typically makes their drivers with slightly thicker sweet areas than other brands and this appeals to the faster swinger and results in soft feel which the 703 does have. goffnut
GIGA HS-781 driver. Deep face. Pear shape. Supposedly "Japan 's Golf Club of the Year '08-'09".
