Posted December 20, 201014 yr Here are some pics of my 2011 Yamaha Tour Model custom order irons. Ordered with KBS Tour 90 S flex shafts. As you know (or may not), I have owned the Tour Model for each year since 2008. I love the design and performance of the Yamaha equipment. I aspire to have a complete Yamaha bag one day. In comparison of each model year, these look like the 2008 and 2010 models had babies. The 2011 shows characteristics of each year. The 2011 shares the same minimal offset, small head size, thin topline, triple grind sole as the others. The 2011 looks as though they redesigned the toe area. The PW looks a little taller. It is winter here, so I haven't played them yet. I hope to squeeze some range time in next week. Enjoy! Excuse my camera as I used my cell phone to save some time. 5 Iron PW
December 20, 201014 yr Nice sticks. I really envy you. I loved the looks of last year's model. But this one doesn't look bad either;)
December 20, 201014 yr Author I really want to install some high end graphite shafts. As soon as I can find some real info on the latest wave of shafts, I will pull the trigger.
December 21, 201014 yr Thanks for posting pics! Waiting patiently for your annual review when you get around to hit them. Not sure what it is... but, is it me or is the toe rounder compared to the previous models?
December 21, 201014 yr Author Thanks for posting pics! Waiting patiently for your annual review when you get around to hit them. Not sure what it is... but, is it me or is the toe rounder compared to the previous models? Slightly. They seem to be so in the longer irons but maybe not in the shorter irons.
December 21, 201014 yr Author Over the years I have reflected on the design. I have come to the conclusion that the 2008 model was the easiest to hit. It is possible Yamaha created a hybrid of designs to add some forgiveness back. I am speculating though. Edited December 21, 201014 yr by bogeydog
December 23, 201014 yr Damn! Every year these are the hottest most rare limited production model irons, and every year you pick up the latest set. I know it's cold where your at but let us know how they play as soon as possible!
December 23, 201014 yr Nice! what is is about these that keeps you buying more? Also, i would like to see comparison shots of all the models if you are willing!!
December 24, 201014 yr Yamaha is my all time favorite JSpec brand, as Chris had mentioned in the past they really are the Titleist of Japanese market. I love that they do not stray too far from there roots, this allows folks like bogeyman to remain loyal to classic designs that truly hold up to the test of time....Happy Holidays, BB
February 3, 201114 yr Author I finally had a chance to play these. 4 rounds in Florida. Windy each round but one. Having owned 4 model years in a row, these are probably the easiest or second easiest to play. The 2008 and 2011 are the easiest. I joke that the 2008s and 2010s had babies. Feel is very solid crisp yet soft. Ball flight strong, spin good as I didn't miss the grooves of the past. For me much improved in all respects than the 09-10 versions. A+ I imagine the non tour version is stellar also.
February 3, 201114 yr Your review makes it very tempting to have a go with the latest especially since it's better than the '09 version that I still have... Decisions, decisions, decisions...
February 3, 201114 yr Author If I were to rank my preference with strong/weak points, I would say: 1st - Too early to tell, but between the 2008 and 2011 models. The 2008s were easy to hit and soft/solid period. The 2011s seem to have the same. My guess is it is the quantity of meat behind the ball. 2nd - 2009 - Still pretty good but not 2008 level. 3rd - 2010 - Least forgiving. Hardest to hit flush.
