supo
Hey all......., just returned from my oz spectacular mid yr golden week golfingetravaganza. played ONLY links tracks in sdyney in pretty much , horrendous conditions the whole 2 weeks. rainy + big old wind testing times on some ripper tracks in sensational condition (apart form the pools of water everywhere) this post is about BALLS..................., i thought for a change id take bunch of pointy end tour balls down and give them all a good workout , see if i cud pick some differnces and see if my over all ichi-ban ball could be challenged from its 2 yr s championposition, the , premiunbrill. i took the new titleist pro v1...........tourstage v10...........srixon z-star xv............tourstage x-01 mild + soild , of course my premium brills, anda set of dontaed my mr Gocchin kasco kelnot all red fluro spectaculars. hit each and all in very tough conditions , in comp and just practice play PRO V1 (new) LIKED the new ball immensly , after not hitting this ball for a cpl of yrs i noticed immediatly the new feel. its more solid than the old, its longer and it grips beautifully. round the greenits superb, i liked htis ball for a long time but after hitting so many others , i stayed clear of it for a while , the new one tho i thought was great , would bag this no probs . played this in comp at magenta shores and it wasnt the ball that let me don thats for sure! TOURSTAGE v-10 this has been my other ball for a while , from time to time i stray from the chosen path and i go to this ball, i was very keen to see how it went in oz, AND it went superbly. another one of those i didnt really notice anything it did or didnt do well or bad, it felt perfect not hard not soft, juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust right, it spins well and it s length wasnt overly noticeablely short or long.. as a go into a shop ,see these first and grab them straight away ball, no buyers lament at all. thsese are right at the top. lovely playing ball. liked it over the pro v1 by a small margin TOURSTAGE x-01 solid DIDNT like this ball, it felt like a a marble on my club face compared to the others i was hitting. very hard, felt to me like i had to really hit the ball hard to get results. spin around the green was good tho, infact very good. on the putter face it was hideous , worst by a mile. as the name say "solid" the staying power of it is tops tho, the ball after a round looks brand new. no marks can just keep playing it i guess its a distance ball. ? the quality of this pill is superb. and its quality is excellent. im still confused how they made it spin when it feels so hard. great engineering . not for me TOURSTAGE x-10 mild Now this puppy is what top end J balls is allllllllllllllll about in my book. beautiful feeling slightly softer than the pro v1 by the smallest of margins , much nicer on the putter face, , whilst driving distance was less by a small , id say just under 10 yards to the super brill champion. (enough to need another club tho!) the over all result on mid irons made this ball just superb to play. if the bloody crows hadnt stolen half of them id be still hitting them now. sensational ball. rate these very very high, better than the pro v1 which i think is its equivalent . prov prob longer and more solid but hte mild is all about inside 150 in my book SRIXON z star XV this has juts been released everywhere, even oz has this now, this has been my ususal alternate ball for a while, its very much like the pro v1 in solidness, but spin i thought was better around the greens and on putterface better as well. over all playability , i think this is hard to beat on all clubs the sum of the parts puts this below none. the catch cry to play a better ball really DOES apply I think. love this pill all round nothing better . others are better in distance, and in feel ,but i dont think in spin tho, or overll playability the ball sits beautifully atop a tee, no need to try and do naything out of the ordinary with this ball it just goes. and goes well. perfect in every condition as well. KASCO -klenot the red devils! Gocchin put these in a bag for me to test out, they are luminous red. VERY starge to look at like looking at a discord against the grass length not great tho, def a lot less than the big boys, but feel wise????????????? well were in another galaxy here. im not joking these feel like hitting marshmallow clouds of salmon eggs. NOTHING is anywhere near the feel of these things i was gobsmacked, i rang tario mid round to tell him how good they felt, on the putter face just like a cotton ball, so nice its like u never want to putt with anything else ever again. makes it hard to go back to anything else after these, but the BIG down side is they really arnt long at all. lik noticaeable short . again i felt i had to go at them very hard to get results, but on the opposite scale to the tourstage solids. yin of the yang IF i played a really short course these would be perfect , or if ur a senior and want smoothnes then i think these would be unbeatabe . they spin beautifully. but in a differnt way they dont back up the just kinda stop like a blob. u gotta try them! just the look gets u in. i love em ,but i wont ever play them in comp. not for me . but softer hitter i think they would suit perfectly DUNLOP premiumbrill MY balls................! i have been orally flayed for playing these things in australia insummer where the greens are like a combo of cement and glass at times . yes the bloody ball bounces in the air on certian tracks at times in summer! but ...........BUT this time in soft conditions in big wind. where the ball was HOLDING on the greens and i mean at NSW, i didnt even think to pull out any other ball. off the tee, they are incomperable. end of chat ! the feel off the driver is the best, the feel off the long irons , the best the feel off the mid irons the best off the short iron tho, this is where they com back to the field. they DONT produce enought grip or hold to be really confident in hot hard cons ,but at the monment they are perfect. not near the TOURSTAGE or srixon or evern the pro v1 in hot dry days , but when its moist it doent matter. they win by a countrty mile the best thing about these tho is on the putterface. after using them and going to other ball i struggle to get that feel back quickly ,it takes a long time to get used to the feel of other balls, but when i go BACK to these afte the other s its like coming home hungover in winter in the rain to minestrone soup, spag bol and a bottle of chateauneuf de pape. just homely! they will remain my balls for the forseeable future, other s dont agree but for me over all i cant displace them, the lenght is NO1 the disperison is NO 1 the feel is ,we ll faagetabarrrrrrrrrrrrrtit no 1 on greens oh yea , ONLY DETRIMENT is around the greens on hard dry days , these ARNT GOOD, in fact they SUCK, but unless u play everyday in that kinda stuff then these win. MY rankings....., driver length ------------XXIO premium brill long iorns length ---------XXIO long irons feel.-------------XXIO mid iron feel-------------srixon z star xv short iron feel-----------tourstage mild iron moveability-------- srixon z star xv putter face-------XXIO "chipability"---------srixon /tourstage v10 "lobability"----------tourstage mild all round long game, XXIO all round short game tourstage x-10 mild depending on days at differnt courses on windy dry days on links id take the srixon zstar xv on no wind days id play the tourstage v10 on softer courses id paly the XXIO brill on short length tracks id play the tourstage mild if i had to choose only one sleeve for a blind day conditions unknown on a rogue course in oz ................., either the tourstage v10 OR the srixon z star xv would get the nod. in JAPAN XXIO premium brill by a mile , no questions asked hows that grab you , what say u all ???????????????????? gocchin
Stew, great feedback... I think the problem with the Klenot is you swing too fast. It seems to excel best for those who swing under 100mph. for me they work pretty well but my complaint is that they are almost too soft!! Which ones were you playing? Premium Brill OR XXIO Premium? They are two completely different balls from different brands. Brill is Bridgestone, XXIO is Dunlop. I love the Premium Brill, best combination of distance and feel. Eca
Great stuff Stew. Ditto with T's query. I have used the 2011 prov1x & they are long but spin definitely less of shirt clubs. Diesnt help when u use confirming irons I guess. Won quite a few boxes of Wilson FG Tour so I'm running that out before venturing into something else. Very nice balls too. Petethepilot
Nothing from Bridgestone Stew? I think the B330S is still my favourite allround ball! Pete
supo
I use both cant tell them apart seriously i lole the look of the premium brills best from bridgestone buy i tend to hit the xxio more t ive never even read up on them whats the blurb on both of these mo kodding they seem like identical twins
gocchin
Similar concepts, and similar designs. Both the Premium Brill and XXIO Premium --- yes the names are surely confusing --- are made as their most premium balls from Bridgestone and Dunlop. Both are designed for soft feel and distance off the tree but feel and touch around the greens. Both are very expensive!

FrankThong
Ever since the Pro V1, and later Pro V1X, I've never bothered to look at another golf ball. Now this. Thanks a lot, Stew, for complicating my life! ;)
supo
fear not, that new pro v1 is a beauty!
+TourSpecGolfer
I've been having a good time with the TourStage Milds and new Srixon balls lately.

Thanks a lot, Stew, for complicating my life! ;) We always gotta try the best :) the premium brills are definitely interesting. You can never go wrong with the ProVs. The 2011 compression seem softer maybe to cater for the conforming irons. Covers seem more resilient but definitely less spin. I think their 2008 model was the craziest in spin. jamnguy1
Stew, great feedback... I think the problem with the Klenot is you swing too fast. It seems to excel best for those who swing under 100mph. for me they work pretty well but my complaint is that they are almost too soft!! Great for visibility but the klenot is so soft that even i lose distance with it and there isnt much feel on iron shots or off the putter ts mild is like pro v1 in terms of feel and characteristics ts solid has good distance off the tee and quite good around the green and off the putter for those who like a firmer feel i think its a good ball for someone with bs around
