RIduffer
The time has come to refresh my irons. I currently play the Miura baby blades with NGS SP Blue shafts. I have grown accustomed to the smaller head, I like the way it frames the ball, and am a big fan of the feel of the Miura irons. Other than opting for the 1957 series or Miuraism SB-01 what else is there? The new RC, Epon, Yonex, Gold's, etc... Is there any oppty to demo or alternately purchase a 7 iron from the various manufacturers, to sample the goods as it were? TIA for your thoughts, RIDuffer

Spoon
i briefly forayed into blades with the aftours! very forgiving for a blade but went back to CBs. now if there is a blade that im so dying to try it is the Yonex ryo ezones. very beautiful, nice angular lines. imho the best looking blade out there
RIduffer
The Epon 302 are a cavity back, so ruled out. However the idea of a copper finished AF Tour sounds very intriguing. I have a back up set up the Blade Golf TF-2 with the chrome plating left off to expose the copper cushion, quite an attractive set... On the Yonex, does anyone have an idea on the head size, I agree that they are a nice looking club. Lastly, the Tourstage have my curiosity piqued as well but I tried some Bridgestone blades several years ago and they seemed harsh. You think that was an anomaly due to shaft selection or have they eliminated that over the years with better forging? Also, are any of these not conforming? I would assume there is no way to test a limited edition club, but what about the Epon or Yonex? Thanks again for the input...

Thanks again for the input... the epon and yonex are conforming. shaft selection is key in whatever club you get most especially in the blades! copper aftours are the prettiest irons i have ever seen. they look great in the 301/302s but are just magical in the blades. as for the bridgestone tourstage, was likely the shaft, most are forged in endo, so combined with the peenings they will be butter! TIA for your thoughts, RIDuffer Big fan of miura blades as miura are known for making blades. Of the ones you've mentioned, I've hit these if only briefly. RC is a very small blade comparable in size to miura baby blades. They look and feel as a blade should. I would put AF Tour in the running for any blades. Don't particularly like the chrome bling finish, but one of the more forgiving blades. Gold's factory with the right shaft is as good as any as well. I haven't hit the yonex nor the TS, but if I had the choice to hit one I would go with the TS 905 limited based upon its look and also TS quality. ant
af tours gonna be more chunky comparing to miura blades and they also have progressive offset tho i dont recall it looked shocking or anything tho. sole and grind looked friendlier on af tours. i heard they are more forgiving than miuras which makes sense. havent actually hit them so cant comment on feel etc. The Epon 302 are a cavity back, so ruled out. No shortage of thoughts there Supo... On the 5002, I kinda have a set. Blade Golf used the blanks to make their TF-2s. I have the TF-2s sans the chrome plate so a copper finish. It is stunning how the copper in the contact area and on the sole tends to stay polished while the rest of the head patinas away. A very well done club, no doubt... Think I am going to do the following... Try and get the Tourstage 905's, since they are an LE and I think I still can. Worst case, they don't live up to expectation I can probably unload them for a modest loss, just like buying a 7 iron and deciding not to get the rest of the set. From there I can try Yonex once the blades hit the states and am guessing I might me able to get a hold of an Epon test club even if the specs don't line up will give a good indicator for feel If neither those gel well then I'll go back to the Miura. Next question is how to shaft the suckers... As I know the standard lie/length will need to be adjusted the shafts will need to be pulled. 1/2" long means at least one shaft needs to be replaced outright and am not sure how the stepping will impact the performance of the NGS WF system. Have and really like the NGS SP Blue that I currently use in my irons. I have also tried the KBS Tours in these heads, but possibly too much shaft for how I swing my irons. Should I go the graphite route or stick with steel? Ultimately, these should be my clubs for a while so I don't mind spending extra on the setup if it means a better game. Also I am not so vain that I care about flexes, meaning I don't mind if the shaft is a senior flex if it means better scoring... Swing speed on the driver is 108-117 depending on how loosened up I am while there is a considerable slow down on the irons to about 92-97 Grips are a no brainer and not up for discussion, Gripmaster leather wraps. Have had them on from the get go and after 3 yrs of almost daily play, in season, still in great shape. If you haven't tried them I would highly recommend giving them a swing... gocchin
I think it will be difficult for stew (supo67) to do a video comparing the 905 and Ezone considering he owns neither (^_^). Fanfare for the Yonex blades has not been so high here in Japan as much of it is based on Ryo Ishikawa hype yet he is not even playing the blades himself. The more developed blade is probably the 905 as its seen an evolution (so to speak as how much can a blade evolve?) over the years from the original X-Blade. If forgiveness is what you want the Epon AF-tour must still be considered though they are marginally larger in size than other current MB's. As Edward above said, the MB5003's are still ever popular and very much liked for their size and feel. Plus they can be ordered with conforming or non conforming grooves. Or to echo Edward again, a compact cavity that sets up like a blade which there are a few.

RIduffer
I think most other brands you are interested in will look like cavity backs. Edward, Are you referring to the the top line view of the various irons in comparison to the Miura or something else? Thanks, Steve L. jamnguy1
If size is the predominant issue, it I recall from looking at it, the royal collection is the smallest and comparable to the miura baby blades.

Size is not the predominant factor, performance and quality are. But I know that I like the appearance of the smaller head at adress and that confidence translates into better shot making. The RC, although I think I mentioned them in my orignal post had not been mentioned since... Have you hit them? Can you comment on their performance? +TourSpecGolfer
Yup I'm laggin on Video Review for the 905 Limiteds. I have been playing the CB's for 4 rounds and a couple of range sessions. The MB I have had the 8-PW in the bag to compare against the CB. I should have something for you guys by the end of the week.

Thanks, RIDuffer I hit a couple of balls with it since I got a second look at it. It's hard to hit consistently for me as I've gone to playing primarily cavity backs. It is softer than miura US blade and depending on what you're used to that can be a good or bad thing. Slightly firmer than miura giken mb. Was shafted with DG S300 so off center shots were quite jarring and unforgiving.
