I'm looking for a 3 wood... But it needs to be a Jack of all trades!! I'm wanting something which I can use off the Tee and from the fairway.....

So, If you Guys had to choose Just one 3 wood out of them all , which one would it be?

i havent found it yet. but i am making do with a ping k15 til the next jdm 3w comes along.

i like the egg and its ubeatable from the fairway . absolutely undisputed king. kryptonite is off the tee.

yamahas, rc etc etc are stellar of the tee but due to the deeper face i struggled from the fairway. just

me though you may have better success than i do.

i say the RC TRC. the Akiras look pretty interesting and id love to give their 3w a shot.

Well as we speak my new Driver is on route, and I've not really ever struggled with the big Dog... But I'm wanting to bring a different aspect to my game

I never use to carry a 3 wood but I used a friends old Taylor Made 3 wood with a steel shaft!!!

Long story short I hit it like God but want an all rounder!

I like the idea of having an option off the Tee if things getting tight....

Again gives be an edge on the Par 5's too

stew is pretty spot on, just remember to get the right shaft. too many people

blame the head when its the shaft that will really make a good head shine

Trouble is Spoon I don't have an awful lot of access to JDM shafts!!

I'm hoping the driver shaft will give me feed back/ indication on which shaft?

Bogeydog also just put together a review on the Akira FW & is you need flatter lie

Angle, it also be worth a look.

Shafting correctly is probably ur biggest challenge as there us no doubt about the quality of all the mentioned heads above.

Me I tried the egg PX-03 and got stuck there coz it is a performer.

The RC TRC 14* is a great one too. I know the Supo has been converted to a Yamaha guy now, but... The performance of the RC is phenomenal even with the stock GD graphite shaft and it only gets better with shaft changes..

When I was trying out woods (there's a separate post out there), I found very little to separate the best performers. That said, I particularly liked the Royal Collection BBD Tour VS and Yamaha D and V series woods. (all mentioned previously). Found them both to be accurate off the mat and tee, and to play to expected lengths. Didn't hit the new RC TRCs as well, but others seem to really like them.

The main difference I saw was not in performance, but in head size and face depth. As far as all-rounding goes, you may want some additional depth in the face to hit tee shots with confidence. You may also see a benefit with a slightly larger head, to give you the same feeling as your driver. In these cases, you'll trade off a little bit of the off-the-grass performance/distance of a shallow-faced, low COG wood, like the TM or Ping G15, for example. But you'll end up with something for all occasions.

While not jdm, I'm a big fan of the Adams 4060. Do prob need a new shaft, but I can hit it pretty well both off the deck and off the tee. It goes faaaar off the tee, around 240 meters on a good swing (260 on a great one) and maybe 220 from the deck. Pretty forgiving too. I expect it to perform even better with a good shaft in it.
