+TourSpecGolfer
The 2012 Japan Golf Fair was a massive and amazing event, interestingly it was the most crowded I remember in the last 5 years despite the struggles Japan has had in 2011. We have decided to create this single topic thread to go over all brands and miscellaneous questions you may have. The usual was to create a single topic for each brand but with so much coverage and information that would have flooded the JDM section of our Forum. Please Enjoy! +TourSpecGolfer
Titleist Japan never fails to impress. The original VG3 Iron & woods were an unexpected surprise a couple of years back. We had the hunch that Titleist Japan was going to revamp the series as they discontinued the past model a little over a month ago. When I didn't expect was the entire line up would be re released and beautifully upgraded as they were this year. The biggest single improvement made to the new VG3 line is the introduction of something called PTW or (Precision tungsten weight) 20g on the driver and 5g in the FW & Hybrid. The goal was to lower CG, Increase MOI, and improve the straightness of shot. They succeeded as we hit all of these on the launch monitor and pretty much most of the time it flew dead straight for me. Enjoy the images and feel free to post your questions and comments in this topic. We will be adding brands daily over the coming week. 2012 VG3 Iron: It's profile is pretty much the same as the previous model but what Titleist Japan told us was they really through their focus in on improving the forgiveness & feel through by upgrading the undercut and expanding the sweet spot. For those of you who don't have experience with these things they were a huge hit here at TSG and would be a top 3 iron in 2011. Many of our most discerning customers who have tried all the best clubs thought these could have been "best of the year" Titleist VG3 Driver: Again Titleist Japan evolved the VG3 building upon last years profile that was difficult to improve by adding a 20 gram tungsten weight to the lower portion of the sole increasing the MOI and moving the CG point further back and lower to promote straight shooting. BTW all these are ENDO forged. The driver feels amazing at impact. Titleist VG3F Fairway Wood: What Titleist Japan wanted here was to improve forgiveness bringing it near the level of clubs like the PRGR Egg or the Ryoma FW. It's got a 17-4 stainless steel (body), HT1770M (L-cup face) & additional 5 gram tungsten (weight) attached to the back. Titleist VG3H Hyrbid: "This one really impressed us the new VG3H Hybrid built with the same materials as the VG3F this one has an easy gliding rounded and smooth sole along with a PTW 5 gram weight added in the back. The setup inspires forgiveness and the face profile makes it easy point and shoot style. Titleist Japan Only Forged Wedge: It's been out a couple months with a big back order due to huge demand. Many of our customers have received them. Dare I say the best Vokey ever? Yup! Soft Endo Forged in Bob Vokey's popular package. This is now the choice of all the Titleist staffers here in Japan and even players sponsored by other companies. Want to see more angles of the new Titleist JDM gear? What was the highlight of the show, equipment wise? Each of us were excited about different things, I walked away excited about the new VG3's, Tatsuro was going insane of Crazy shafts especially after his fitting and Tario will chime in on what he liked best. So much really. We also have some new partnerships and products we will be announcing in the coming week. After the coverage maybe you can tell us what you liked the most. I'm guessing it will be some tiny head with a XX shaft..;o) there seems to be a new trend in irons that i love the neck seems to be getting slightly more pronounced and rounded, its not offf set its dead sqaure but its more pronounced. Yes Stew it has returned, that trend vanished for a while and now that little neck bump is back. The TourStage GR irons captured that perfectly, I know thats not your cup of tea but those and the VG3's really were flat out easy to hit with what seemed to be a perfect trajectory if there is such a thing. Mjr. D
Hahah good to know. Ya the Titleist VG3 irons are fairly nice.. not my favourite looking but the brushed cavity area looks really nice. I saw a few pictures of Royal Collection's new Fairway and I believe, hybrid, with the twin rails - looks a lot nicer than last year. The tour stage 707 adjustable driver seems like a good buy - looking forward to hearing if it's a low spinning head. No Epon Zero there but i'm perplexed by that head. The Diamana X shaft looks interesting... not sure but apparently it's mid-high launch in the softer flexes and according to Stew, low spin and low launch in the XX flex??? Weird. Hope it's true. What's the story on the new Pentacross shafts? High modulus? Haven't seen pics of the new Mizuno wedges but damn those Vokey forged wedges are nice! So are the Fourteens! Not mentioned but the new Miura caddy bags look nice as does their new Driver - http://translate.google.ca/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.miuragiken.com/&ei=YtlGT5y_JKX40gGaibmGDg&sa=X&oi=translate&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CDgQ7gEwAA&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dmiura%2Bgiken%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26client%3Dsafari%26rls%3Den%26prmd%3Dimvnsfd I still wish more companies, especially Crazy would offer lower lofts in their drivers - their shafts are made for power guys yet they don't even offer an 8.5 head. Dumb.

+TourSpecGolfer
We actually went to the Daiwa factory, full report coming in a week or so. It's Gigantic! they really do have cutting edge carbon technology. Yes above Mitsubishi and others. Their fishing division builds the best rods in the world hands down so they get their carbon materials and technologies first. The new Roddio's are purely Prototypes at this moment we know a little we can't reveal but will be shortly. Only a small handful of people in their carbon division have info on it and for sure those guy's were not at the show. What's really cool about ONOFF is the hosel piece allows a club maker to adjust the face and lie angle by 1.5* Also many are not aware that the new S-Type (Black) head doesn't require that hosel piece. LOL they know who Shingo is, they must have been playing trick the Gaijin with you that day.

For the adjustable face and lie angle, is that just for the drivers or true for the utility clubs as well? If the S-Type doesn't require the hosel piece, is it still similarly adjustable? Also, is that a new ONOFF iron in the gallery? The one with the "Deep Flow Gravity" stamp on the back... That a GI iron? Lastly, looking forward to the RC stuff. trying to figure out my next iron set as the honeymoon with the TS 905MBs has ended... Great job on the coverage so far guys... Thanks... Duffer19
The new VG3 irons were not available for us to demo but the driver was. I did not hit it as well as the Onoff driver and the new OnOff Red irons has actually very good feel. Perhaps the Daiwa shafts were just better. Mjr. D
Hahah hilarious reply to the WRX'er. I can't do Lynx - I just can't. If i go in the 7's i'm going with the Egg 7. We'll see how it, the tour stage 707 and a few others review, first, though.

That a GI iron? The Type-S driver by ONOFF is adjustable through TSG as we deal with Labo dept directly and they can bend it with heat 1* in face angle and lie. Also the new FW's can be adjusted by half a degree FA and lie as well. Yes the iron in the gallery that says "Deep Flow Gravity" is a designed meant for extra forgiveness. In regards to Roddio shafts, they are very hard to tune due to a very different tipping profile versus other shafts. They are sensitive and not something you can just use conventional shaft tipping rules with. Players must be fit by someone like Gocchin from TSG for best results. Kinda similar to Crazy, people jump into any 2nd hand crazy pull because they get a good deal and it's a "crazy" then they blame the brand because it didn't fit their game.
