Posted July 24, 201212 yr Anyone gaming the V forged?? I'm having a hard time deciding if I should buy the 2012 Yamaha V forged, 2011 Onoff Forged or Titleist Vg3's. Which irons do you prefer and what are the differences between the three?? Your help and feedback greatly appreciated. Edited July 24, 201212 yr by vanla01
July 24, 201212 yr they are all very very good irons......i would play all 3 in a heartbeat......i like the look of the Yammies but the onoff get the nod in terms of length and forgiveness.......the yammies are nice to look at and perform quite well...everybody seems to love the VG3s....they are all very good irons...get off the damn fence and buy something already.....if it doesnt work out, then off to BST and somebody else will get to experiment !!!
July 24, 201212 yr Considering looks, feel, performance, and forgiveness the OnOff's would get my vote. My only objection to the VG3's is the chunkier look. If you like a thin top line they don't have it. If forgiveness is what is more important then the VG3's would rate first with the OnOff's close behind. the V-forged are a bit more the Players/better ball strikers club.

July 24, 201212 yr Yammy yammy yammy. I've played the 2011 tour model and they are superb. I'm sure that the 2012 V forged will feel just as nice and should be a little more forgiving than the Tour model.

LOL, I just bought a Yammie set off of the BST from TSG to experiment, hopefully it works out!! I guess the worse thing that can happen is, I sell the Yammies to buy some OnOff irons if this experiment doesnt work out. Thank you TSG'ers for all your help. Edited July 25, 201212 yr by vanla01
July 25, 201212 yr Just got my Onoff's yesterday. Probably the best looking iron i've ever seen. Truly a work of art. Haven't had a chance to hit them yet, though. I was also debating between these, the Yamahas and the VG3. Overal, the Onoff's have the most versatility and appeal IMO.
July 25, 201212 yr Author those are great clubs ! hope they work out for u ! Thanks, I hope so too. if they don't work, I''ll let you know when to package up your onoff's.
July 26, 201212 yr i made a call 2 mths ago between yammy tours, onoff......could not wait for the VG3s. Went with yamahas as softness is just right & closes to my epon 302s
August 2, 201212 yr Author Just received the irons this week and here is my assessment from the range today. The Yamaha's just scream quality and the milled x faced definitely gives the irons some character. Ball flight on the Yamaha's are mid to high and easy to control, mis**ts are crazy forgiving, the ball just goes even if you mis**t shots from the toe or heel. The Yamaha's are uberly soft compared to the Miuras, Yammie's feel like a soft marshmallow when struck perfectly, Miura's have more of a dense feeling and imo feel more solid, . I am more use to the Miura's denseness and will see how the Yamaha's softness compare after a few rounds. Overall, great set of irons and cant wait to try the irons on the course and will be back with more of an in depth review. Reply Quote Delete Edit Edited August 2, 201212 yr by vanla01
August 10, 201212 yr Author The Yamaha's I've hit don't feel soft. Which Yamaha irons have you tried?? The V forged with Tour AD shafts are too soft for me awhile the Miura's with Nippon's were perfect feel and balance.
August 10, 201212 yr The Yamaha's I've hit don't feel soft. We all know the shaft makes a big difference but I would call the Yams more of a crisp softness.
August 10, 201212 yr yes indeed... the ns shafts they are magnificent . def not as soft as epons nor mizunos they are like the toursatges , they have some crisp/ solidness to them. jee they play well.
October 8, 201212 yr Author Just a little update everyone, I picked up a set of 2011 Onoff forged irons and they feel great. The Onoff feels uberly soft and look wise.. they're gorgeous. After reading many comments about the Onoff's, I have to agree with many TSGer's, they feel fantastic and addicting to hit, every time I flush one, I cant stop smiling. :) I love the V forged irons but the Onoff's are very comparable and I am having a time deciding which iron will be my gamer for the 2013 season. TSGer's, what are your thoughts and which iron would you choose??? Edited October 8, 201212 yr by vanla01
October 8, 201212 yr having played both, i much preferred yamahas... solid at impact and workability is just awesome...
October 8, 201212 yr having played both, i much preferred yamahas... solid at impact and workability is just awesome... Would agree with the Yamaha irons. Played both but Yamaha is my choice. Onoff are great irons however I prefer the slimness and players design of the Tammy Tours.
October 8, 201212 yr The OnOff and Yammys are great soft feeling irons with lots of forgiveness. The OnOffs are slightly longer and a bit more forgiving. The Yamaha, produce a very soft feel and it feels like you can actually feel the ball sticking to the face at impact. I thought that was a pretty cool feedback to have. These two irons have thinner top lines and smaller amounts of offset incase you feel like you need to try to mess with some shot shaping too. The VG3's are good looking (new and refreshing) and very, very forgiving. The only thing is that it's on the chunkier side as far as the top line goes and very noticeable compared to the other two irons. Its good for players looking or an emphasis on forgiveness.
