supo
i saw it. i HAD to have it. i rebuilt it PING eye 2 (brass, copper ????? ) 1 iron........... it was staring me down.. daring me to go in hard... as did the miura 5002 2 iron last yr that i keep down under and use.... this little fella was just too hard to pass up. i took it straight to my guy. had a monaccos 2i shaft installed in X flex in it. had 2 sessions on the weekend with it. no where NEAR game enough to play it yet tho. but on range i was miss hitting it appalingly badly about once every 7 or 8th shot. thast NOT BAD.! feels like poo, forgot how bad these kinda clubs actually feel to hit but the flight was long ,low and like a bullett i was lin love. masssssssssssssssssssive off set , i mean huimongous off set. but htat keeps it hittable! now........... if only epon made one. will take this home to play with next month. cant wait. does this make the driver obsolete? photos soon............! supo
what a great quote huh "if u are caught on a golf course during a storm , take a 1 iron and point it to the sky , bec not even god can hit a 1 iron. " then when asked by feherty,,, after he got hit by lightning the week after.. "i deserved to get stuck by lighning... think i tempted god last week bec god CAN hit a 1 iron...!" hahahaahahah what a genius love this saying
vincent
I still tee off with a 2 iron not so much off the deck. I have a maxfli revolution 1 iron love how the ball rockets off the tee. Linger than my 5 wood... Plenty roll out there.
EPONfreak
Right,'that's inspired some weekend shed sorting, I think I have the 1 &2 in these somewhere, though not sure if I gave them to a mate, I've got a feeling I did. I recall hitting the 2 at the range a few years ago and it was easy, straight and long but as stew said, impact was unfulfilling.
RIduffer
Got a Hogan Apex 50th blade sitting in my stash... Great driving iron, but I prefer the sissy utility club approach now...
coops1967
Well, i love and use my Epon 901 19 degree a lot... but i do still have a Mizuno Tzoid Pro II 1 iron (15 degrees loft?) with old Rifle 6.5 shaft. Good shots with it are spine tingling... bad ones, ha - at least the bad ones go nowhere, i guess, keeps the ball in play ;-) Edited September 20, 2012 by coops1967
ant
its kinda funny and sad at the same time because the industry really screwed the irons up in its quest to sell more distance by jacking up lofts and lengths. in 60s/70s 'standard' 2iron loft was about what 20 degrees and its 'standard' length was about no more than 39". wasnt the easiest club to hit but now we have 3iron at 20 degrees loft and 39" length which is basically your 2iron of old. that started in the 80s i think. no wonder nobody makes 1irons anymore and 2irons are on request only and as they continue to jack up lofts and length 5-PW only sets would be more and more common with hybrids to fill the gap but not the function of long irons as it meant to be. further down the line expect 'i think GOD can definatly hit ............... this 3 iron!' topic i guess. +TourSpecGolfer
You hit your PW 150! lol that's my 7 iron! "if u are caught on a golf course during a storm , take a 1 iron and point it to the sky , bec not even god can hit a 1 iron. "then when asked by feherty,,, after he got hit by lightning the week after.. "i deserved to get stuck by lighning... think i tempted god last week bec god CAN hit a 1 iron...!" supo
ohh nooo. normally i hit an 8 or maybe a hard 9 iron . about 150 .., in general it goes.. well normal lofts the PW is about 125-132 ish.., .. but the 44* PW goes rediculous distance. it totally messus up ur head if ur not used to steroid injected lofts. ihit the 9 iron over the bakc of the green at nishi nasuno 3 weeks ago on a 147 yard par 3 .., flew the green into the back bunker. i cudd thrown the clubs into atree!! my monacco shafted clubs normally with a NON cut shot 130ish pretty spot on. with the modus take say 5-10 yards off. Spoon
when i was gaming my 46* 302 i would get it 140 with ease 9 was 150. then i moved to the personals and my pw even though bent to 47 was giving me only 115-125. 150 was either 8 or 7. looking forward to the RF as i started playing golf and got used to a pw loft of 46!. ant
yeah very true, that too, creates another gap where it matters most. nothing proper wedge set wont fix but its just wrong. maybe they should start stamping names on them instead like pitching niblick or something to break existing associations :) saw a beautiful one off dw ground then engraved raw set by scratch golf made for show where they did just that. thingi do like tho is the ability to put another wedge proper in the bag.. that i like! supo
id prefer if they just stamped the lofts on the damn things!
supo
dang.................................!!! i gamed this in a money game on saturday. pulled the 3 wood . bec ive been hittting it so badly. had about 10 warm up shots with it on the range pre game. and got them going pretty well. so took a punt, stuck it i nthe bag. on a reltively flat track. used it on the 3 of the par 5s the thing went about 10-15 feet in the air about 240+ yards to about 20 yards form front of green . didnt miss it at all. small fade. the first s**t with it i absolutley middled was a thing of beauty. good rord i say.. ive got a new toy!. this baby is headin to oz. ! MoreBeerBetterGolf
Yeah I can't get over how far my 302s go either. Lofts are strong and they just seem hot. My ball striking has been improving as I've recovered from a torn rotator cuff last winter but still. Hit 5 iron last night in 50* temps from 200 into slight breeze and was on the front edge...I'd really have no use for a 3i in this set anyways.
