MoreBeerBetterGolf
I have been looking at JDM drivers lately and have been in contact with a few of you regarding some used ones. I am as confused as ever though by some responses I have gotten. I have an R11S with a Phenom 70 Tour X and have been driving the best of my life with it. Super accurate, always in fairway, but giving up distance with the shaft being just a bit much and boardy for me. I am hitting most of my drives 270-280 (we dont have very elevated tee boxes at my home course). I notice that my drives never seem to go as far as most people or myself think they will when struck. People ooh and ahhh over my drives when I hit a good one...only to find when I get to my ball it isn't really that astounding. I used to be a high spin player but my swing has changed and now my trajectory may be a tick low and maybe spin as well. I am a fit 31, swing at about 110-112 when I am getting after it (I usually am) and my miss is usually a mid-low hook. I am looking at Epon 151, Kamui KPX, Egg 7, and Ryoma V Spec driver heads. I want a point and shoot type driver and don't need to work the ball much at courses I play. Kind of curious to gain your opinions and see what you think since I am pretty new to JDM stuff and while I have read about every product info page on Tour Spec, it doesn't always tell the whole story. Obviously I can't just go down the street and test drive these, nor do I want to spend months and tons of money trying different ones if I can make an educated decision before hand. If I left anything out let me know. Thanks! Edited September 20, 2012 by MoreBeerBetterGolf

Distance is above average and it will keep you in the fairway if you have the right shaft.
supo
every one has a differnt idea. depending on what u like the look of , all the ones u emntioned are totally differnt looking heads but they all satisfy the requirement that they go straight witout much movebility ifound the 151 was high spin it didnt suit me i nthe slightest. i cudnt hit it. the ryoma is the ultimate point shoot head. get it built slightly heavier for lower longer drives. the kp-x is an anti left head that u can custom as well. sqaure or tiny open if u hook the ball. u wont hook the ball with this guaranteed. and its a much more pingy feeling head. 9.5 is LOW very low launching. its got weight ports in it to play around with that alter the shots dramatically. no idea about he egg the ryoma o and kamui for me are hard to beat
MoreBeerBetterGolf
Thanks Stew. The Ryoma really seems to be a love it or hate it driver. People are either enamored with it or say it's a hook machine. IDK. I think a lot of the technology in that driver is very unique and intriguing but the extremely high gravity angle concerns me because when I really get after it my miss is a low hook. Surprised the 151 was high spin for you. I would like some forgiveness but don't want excess spin especially here in Illinois with all the wind. So maybe from the Epon line, a 102 is the way to go, give up some forgiveness for lower spin? The KPX is kind of looking like a definite player as well. vincent
I dont think the vspec is a hook machine. I have one and a small draw is the ideal ball flight... low piercing and a slight draw.
sandee11
I would say Crazy 435ll , jbeam 425tour,Yamaha v425, ryoma vspec and kamui ray. Also epon zero but don't think is as forgiving as the others! Those are my current gamer!! Good luck for your search. I think shaft head combination is more important than head only... wmclarenf1
If you want point and shoot, I would go with the Ryoma Premia. I have played the V-spec and for some reason, the Premia is a whole lot more forgiving. Now that's the head. Don't forget getting a shaft that suits your profile as well. RIduffer
I don't think your issue is the head. While I agree that the loft and face angle will play a roll, your issue is more shaft driven. A low loft head with a high launch shaft and you'll have a tremendous ball flight... Any head you listed will perform for your needs but the wrong shaft and you'll hate it. Too loose and you'll make an open face hook more than a porn star, too low spin and no launch.... Figure the shaft first.... With your SS you might try a GD z9003 in X or a Crazy shaft In SX or X depending on which... Gocchin and Stew are probably best equipped to recommend though... chiromikey
my v-spec (thanks to eca) is very anti hook being slightly open and on a crazy royal deco shaft. my favorite (which i really wanted to hate) is the jbeam/crazy 435. with the crazy ly02 noir shaft it gives me huge soaring slight draws with plenty of roll. my ss isn't quite what yours is and i get out over 300yds several times per round with this beast...sometimes significantly over if i catch it perfectly! oh, and it's as forgiving as my ryoma! supo
the jbeam 425 tour.... ??? a bit less volume + plenty of punch u wont be bending that around much. thats a beauty it is as much about the engine as the shazzy, if not more. seek the shape head u like.. then delve deep into shaft selection
gocchin
Whoever said the Ryoma is a hook machine? The V-Spec certainly is not. If it hooks its either the shaft or the swing. I know how many Ryomas we've sold and its certainly not either love or hate it. Its mostly love and by a large margin. Obviously there is no perfect driver or everyone would have it and not every driver will work for every player for the most part people have had success with Ryoma and those who have not are in a small minority but it happens as with any driver.
